Hi it,s Neil schwerdt in west valley city Utah ( MRL/ man,boy I,m trying to wire my train yard and what a pain in the butt. I,ve got dcc/ digitrax . I hate wiring I got three track powered but when I do the fourth track then I get power to all two rail. Some day all get this . You're having a fun time 😊 Have a get weekend. From Neil schwerdt
I think you covered it good there Rick. I think your mock ups and back drops work perfect. The small details you added for fun like the hot dog stand and the names of your operating crews just makes it that much more fun. Have a nice weekend.
Love the scenery (especially the background buildings) and how you make it look relatively straight forward to make. Not at all intimidating for newbies but still looks great.
Rick, this is great! I’m working on planning a layout roughly this size (16x15), the track plan has a couple of semi urban industrial areas, and a few connecting rural areas with small towns that have a couple small industry spurs and rural freight stations. I’ve been gathering materials and will start construction this summer (we are getting ready to move). In the meantime I’m practicing different types of switching using a simulator. Your experiences have given me some ideas. Looking forward to more ops sessions! Curious how the new guy is working out. - Chuck
Hi Rick. Thank you for this. Switching layouts are the best. Hours and hours of fun governed only by your imagination. I've been with you since the start and I just love how this layout is progressing. Can't wait to see it evolve.
As you were describing the issues you were having with car cards and JMRI, I was thinking, "I wonder if you could just throw dice". Great minds! I like your layout a lot.
Great overview Rick!! Very detailed, organized, and informative makes it sound like a lot of fun to operate. Tons of options. I look forward to watching your progress with the staging and second level when you get to that. Of the course the operations as well. Thank for sharing. Have a good day and stay safe. Happy modeling!! - Jason
Ever since I have discovered your channel on UA-cam I have enjoyed watching your videos a lot especially when the Benjamin makes a guest appearance can't wait to see all your future plans for it keep having fun on your layout 👍👍
Very nice overview of the layout Rick ,looking great and welcome to all the new subscribers. Cheers Rick, say hi to conductor Benjamin.. tc till the next time.
Terrific overview. Well presented. Good luck with second level. Are we talking helix? Really enjoy your approach to operations. Got me thinking about the possibilities. Just wondered if any passenger trains run on your mainline? Thanks for this.
Thanks for sharing. Enjoying every episode, even went back to watch your first videos. My question is do you power your turnout frogs? Looking forward to your dice rolling adventure.
The backdrop (shadow box) gives a 3d effect, pretty cool. I'm looking forward to your second level. Question are you going to go with a small helix perhaps a one or two level to get to the top? Not sure if the 22 foot incline would be to much. One inch of every foot will be a 2 percent grade or so.
Rick, Have you considered a new 1 foot deep by 6 foot long extension to the right of the lift up gate across from "Orange" ? It would back onto the garage door and be serviced off the mainline by the hauler. If you have an industry planned for the second level some day, it could be previewed on this small addition. Love your work Rick, Phil in Georgia
Thanks for the overview. Some of it I was able to figure out by guessing but this video put's it together. Something to keep in mind with a second level is being able to reach over the lower level while using your uncoupler tool and getting to the couplers. You won't get an easy view like you have now. Or reach for that matter. And speaking of couplers - you're going to have to really pay attention to your couplers so they don't come apart on the climb which is going to be pretty steep. Considering how you have problems with couplers now it will only get worse. Something you didn't mention in your bit on DCC - do you have a single power district or multiple?
JMRI. . . I agree. . . powerful but clunky. I do basic programming of my locos with it. I do like the WIFI server feature as well. The WIFI server allows me to run my trains from my phone and my ESU Cab Control throttle. I use Engine Driver on my phone and my ESU throttle.
Hello, very nice scenes and layout. I have a question about locos coupled in UM. I have a JMRI control center, and I cannot synchronize the motors so as to run at the same speed, have you a solution to my problem, thank you for your answer, have a good day, see you soon.
Love the shadow box effect on your layout. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
Beautiful layout ! Ive watched your operations videos and you have alot of fun which is what the hobby is for. Im going to add the dice for switching.

Great overview and explanation. I use the term Proto-lance too lol. And I learned a lot from Lance's book.

Really good overview Rick…ambitious future plans…like your thought process when it comes to the hobby 👍🏽

Thanks for posting this, Rick. Very informative. Let's get back to ops!
Nice layout in your "California Basement"!
Thanks!
Hi Rick! Great video! Great overview of what you’re doing!
Thanks for watching

Great layout. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks for watching!
Mr. Rick, you really created a masterpiece for HO scale. Maybe not as big Eric Seigal's O-Scale, but it is you wanted to be.
Oh man, I need a few more mock-up buildings. Thanks for the idea Rick.
That was great review! Thanks for the history of the layout and future plans.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I Love the "it's just a layout in a guy's garage". I enjoy your videos and the fact that it's based on operations more than just a train going by.
Glad you like them!
As you were describing the issues you were having with car cards and JMRI, I was thinking, "I wonder if you could just throw dice". Great minds! I like your layout a lot.
Well done !!!! Your concepts are very well explained ...... keep up the good work ....
Thank you, I will
One of the best switching layouts I've seen. I really enjoy your videos and THANKS for sharing.
Glad you like them!

I live in Anaheim, I rail fan a lot like maybe five times a month and the last time I saw UP was6 months ago
Great video, 2nd level cool !!!!!!!
Thanks!
Like the details such as the modern billboard and the transmission towers. Nice use of backdrops to give that So Cal look. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Great video! Thanks for the update! It's motivating me to get back to work and get some scenery done on my layout! Cheers - Brian
Rick, I love the name, Black Rifle Coffee .I believe I will have their business on my layout. Thanks for the idea. Another great video, sir.

A layout that can be thru trains and/or switching.Best of both worlds.Point of origin.Destination.Just like the real ones.
Terrific overview. Well presented. Good luck with second level. Are we talking helix? Really enjoy your approach to operations. Got me thinking about the possibilities. Just wondered if any passenger trains run on your mainline? Thanks for this.
Looking good great video

Thanks, I do not power any of the turnout frogs. I use peco electrofrog small turnouts on the layout.

Fred and LaMott would be proud. Do you have a old pickup parked there ?
Aunt Esther would be critical 😆
@@oubrioko Maybe Elisabeth looking down waiting for the big one to happen.
@@whew5 "I'm coming, Elizabeth!" 😆

Something you didn't mention in your bit on DCC - do you have a single power district or multiple?
On the DCC, the ESU powers the whole layout with no other districts or divisions.
JMRI. . . I agree. . . powerful but clunky. I do basic programming of my locos with it. I do like the WIFI server feature as well. The WIFI server allows me to run my trains from my phone and my ESU Cab Control throttle. I use Engine Driver on my phone and my ESU throttle.
I like everything manual. Too much automation doesn't make if more fun. It makes it feel like work.
Very nice video love your layout what size hinges do you use on your lift up what kinda hinges also
I have two small hinges on the top. They are about 3 inches long each.
Awesome - thanks - is your layout HO? - just read a comment that it is HO. Love your channel ❤
Yes, it is!

look up 'locomotive speed matching' on youtube. lots of videos here that show the details for how to do it.
It’s Los Nietos….not Los Neetos….
lol, I got a little tongue tied there.
@@socalscalemodels it’s all good…dig the layout
Rick no one cares about the layout. Where's the damned Corgi? 😂
Saying what we're all thinking... We want more Benjamin!!! 😂
@TierLineCustoms Rick on a serious note we are looking to adopt a 2.5 year old male Corgi named Solomon. Is it true? Do they shed a lot?
