Abortion, marijuana are critical issues to bring out voters for the 2024 elections

Abortion and marijuana will be on Florida's November ballot, and these issues are critical issues for young voters.
Democrats believe this issue will turn out young voters in support for their agenda, to enshrine abortion rights and legalize marijuana.
Young Republicans have varied ideas on abortion, and former President Donald Trump has maintained a distant stance on this issue by saying it should be left up to the states and previously criticizing Florida's six-week abortion law.
For Jordan Vassallo, casting a vote for the first time in November is nerve wracking.
In her mind, Vassallo has a clear reason to vote. Her main focuses are abortion rights and gun violence prevention, and she’s not too excited about voting for President Joe Biden, but she said it’s an “obvious choice” for her priorities.
Yet the scary part for Vassallo, an 18-year-old Jupiter High School senior, is how binary her choice is for abortion rights.
Voting yes for a ballot amendment to enshrine abortion rights would mean that no law could be instilled to restrict abortion before viability, but a no-vote means a vote to uphold Florida’s current six-week abortion law.
In Florida, Democrats are also expecting young voters to turn out in droves for this year’s ballot amendments legalizing marijuana and enshrining abortion rights.
It’s a large focus for Democrats, who currently struggle going against a nearly 800,000 voter registration edge for Republicans in Florida.
