@lesvalleny8134 did you watch past the 2-minute mark before commenting? The instrumental intro is almost 2 minutes in length, instrumental meaning no words are being sung during that time. Right around the 2-min mark both the vocal and the on-screen lyrics start - or they are supposed to, unless YT's latest update has broken this 11 year old video.
That's normal now, commenting after 10 seconds of a video. Other's may think it's a small thing. I see black for our world. I am sick of this superficial people.
I remember a long time ago when I was just a kid. We went to see the Who at the Cleveland Auditorium, I think it was, and when the place filled up the lights went off. People were kind of buzzing about what was going on. Then the music of the synthesizer started in syncopation to this song, and a white lite strobe started beating in pulse to the music. The synthesizer started this high speed repetition of the notes and the white light was reaching ever higher in all directions. And then BOOM the house lights went on and there were the Who on stage playing it. By the time Townsend started to sing that whole place was jumping! Quite an experience and one I don't think I'll ever forget.
You painted a good picture..thanks . You know i just read the words for the first time about a month ago .... all these years I thought it was “ livin in funk “😎
Bad Religion went like that in Seattle // opened with Spirit Shine forgotten song off 1996 album at about 45 seconds singer say let's go! whole place took off later on i thought about how i had forgotten the particularly fast paced nature of Spirit Shine it really does pick up and take off I think I've listened to EF a dozen times today listening to the eagles understanding their entire catalogue same with the ramones and the who
This song came out when I was 18. I love the lyrics and how they talk about how so many people try to convey an image of themselves that is not real. Reminds me of Facebook and social media now.
I was born in 71..I heard this song while growing up. Now I am 51 and it's weird when you hit a certain age where you have to go back to where things were different. I will always love the 70's and 80's. something special.
I just love the lyrics in this song. Keen observations of people and life. My two favorites - “The girls smile and people forget.” “The shares crash; hopes are dashed.”
Cruise in my car through the country and the desert in the lands of San Andreas. This is the best song of all the radio staions! Good memories from an old game. Thx for uploading.
Was thinking the same thing when I read your comment. Cruising the open roads of SA jamming to KDST. I had a couple routes drawn out on the paper map that I'd follow. Ah memories.
Some of you may recognize this song from GTA San Andreas. I myself have very good memories of cruising through San Andreas to this song and others on KDST.
That was a great description of the song. I remember the very day that it was released, back in '81-'82, can't remember exactly. I know that I was sixteen. Didn't know what the hell it meant, but loved the entrancing sound of the music. Thanks, you've cleared things up for me after 34 years!
Been hearing this great song for 30 years ,I'm a bit slow but now i get it. Thank you for taking the time to do this and the lyrics, your great......I LOVE IT....
Thanks for the video !! I always thought he was saying "dressed to kill", a very popular expression. I guess I was wrong and he is really saying "dress to kill", sort of like, a new way of saying it, combining an existing language form with a futuristic version of it, sort of like all The Who's music, very forward looking and modern.
I like this song. I sometimes listen to it on the K DST station in GTA San Andreas. A chunk of this song is also in some of the new GMC commercials. It's a great song to jam to. :)
How great is it that a couple of video games (vice city/San Andreas) have educated a whole generation with great music from diverse genres like this great song?
What a great song man! It grooves along....straight ahead, great underlying guitar and bass undertones...vocals flowing, tugging with the time as the drums lay it down.Solid. Yeah.
thank you sooo much for this song I love it, I love how you put a little a trivia in when ever I post music to face book I go to google also and post a little history about the song I really appreciate yor hard work man keep it up whoop whoop
Thank you! I have ALWAYS loved this song. Now I know what it's about. I could never make out the lyrics...you made a great video, I enjoyed it immensely...and now I love the song more than I did before. Great job!!
Such an underrated band! Love this song! Baba O'Reily is one the greatest records ever in music history IMO. And this is coming from a mostly hip-hop, r&b, pop, classic jazz, big band/swing & movie score guy. Though I love some classic rock & alternative.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been looking for the song not really knowing the lyrics or the whole title, or what it was about. So THANKS!!! Great music, great style. Yeah, I noticed it used in the car commercial too.

One of the great sleepers of all time. And it just keeps coming back and back. First out in 1982, me and the Edzoid, running lines in front of the dance floor. And did not get busted.. Now that's memories - dodging bullets. And no one to tell, cause no one would believe.

I thank 63YardDart for the explanation of the lyrics. And thank him.Great song. Sorta oxymoronic though if you think about it. The Who is a world-wide recognized band and they're singing about poseurs at parties, et al. As if they wouldn't attract the same.I've learned to like The Who at 63 after 35 years of ignoring them.
My all~time favorite rock " riff"..It's a perfect intro song for a boxer/fighter ..walking into the ring! " It's Hard"...That was the album back in 82'..I was 19 partying my ass off, blasting this , now classic!
SAME HERE. I couldn't remember any lyrics however but only the rhythm and the beat. I had to go all the way to the source of where I first heard it. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
Great job... loved the lyric overlay. I am just not discovering The Who sad to say. This is all due to the Jerry Bruckheimer shows like CSI, NCIS, etc. I never knew who the WHO really were until lately. They rock and are awesome. Thanks for the insights into this song.
Thank you for posting and keeping this video online. The song itself is priceless regarding individuality and structure for what was occurring in the early 1980s, but the value of the song as itself remains as a one-off exposure of the sentiment behind what was once a modest industry. The video spoke to me, and thus, can speak to others. Thank you for your hospitality.
YardDart ... thanks for the lyrics ... your "explanation" of the song goes far far beyond just party high "put on" ... the much deeper meaning is about neurosis, in general: the fake social self that nearly all of us adopt in the process of growing-up...trying to outrun our cores. "Where do you go to, My lovely"...also expresses this awareness of our (now habitual) BS self-presentations.

I pointed out in another posting of this song that an economic Eminence Front is the partying and spending. I was one of the foolish people that decided to back Reaganomics. The problem is that when it didn't pan out, later leaders recommended everyone spend more, keep the money circulating. This was an Eminence Front as it kept up the illusion of economic power until the reserves, personal and corporate, began to run out.

I got an old GMC Van...wonder if after I get it fixed up, will this track still apply 0_o..love the ironic meaning of GMC's use of this in their commercials ;)
Back in the day, on a sunny day, used to put the top down on my TR8, put this on my SUPERB stereo and head for the mountains, specifically the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway and GET LOST! This musical matched the magnificent scenery so well..........good times.....so long ago
