One of the true Guitar Masters. You really do need to see him do “Classical Gas” in the studio. You’ll either want to throw your guitars out, or be very inspired.
Tommy is pretty amazing. This was a good example of what he can do, but his chops go way further. Try "Initiation", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Classical Gas". Keep in mind that he is self-taught by playing what he heard on the radio when he was like 10. He had no idea that there were multiple guitars playing so he did all the parts together on one.
thanks again for doing this one - enjoyed your reaction! the first time I heard him, I would have sworn there were two people playing. he's been around a while longer than Alip. 😉 you should check out some of his other videos...he's really a master at his craft!
I guess that's what happens when as a young fella when learning he thought the bass line on the radio was played by the guitarist as well so he taught himself to play both parts.
My eyes - and so is the speed of light - is not fast enough for viewing Tommy's guitar playing! But my ears are pretty tough, so! Great guitar player! Oh, "Certified Guitar Player" I should say! There are actually only four CGPs living on this planet, so you can't go wrong with Tommy! :) This was an easy fun playing by him ...
Great reaction! You've got to listen to this one by Tommy. Classical Gas [Mason Williams] | Tommy Emmanuel. Just watch what he does. Top Tier Player. Have a great day!
Tommy learned at home with his bro Phil, they had no video, just recotds and no idea how many instruments were used. Learned, bass, treble and percussion all together on one guitar. Listen to initiation.
Great to hear a reaction from someone who really knows guitar playing. You could pick any Tommy video and be impressed. He’s the best I’ve ever seen live and I’ve seen a few. I’d be most interested to hear what you think of his rendition of Classical Gas because I sure as hell have no clue what’s going on there 😂
In addition to all of the other great comments, it's interesting to know that he does not use his nails on his right hand. In more than one interview he has said his nails don't sound good and he won't use acrylics so he has developed callouses that due do the work normally done with the fingernails.
Ha ha a ha.... Enjoyed this. This is normal and what you should expect from Tommy Emanuel. To appreciate what he has done here some more, I suggest you listen to the originals from The Beatles a few times; study both guitar parts, Paul Mac. Cartney's bass part, Ringo's drum part, the vocal harmonies, then listen to Tommy again. I'm not criticizing your work here...... Just be amazed. 🙂
Great video, but the commentator needs a bit of a shake up. Playing a chord a touch slower so all the notes sound individually is a 'rake'. Tommy is an amazing guitarist and super nice guy - I've met him a couple of times and he borrowed my L series strat one time when we were on the same show in the 80s.

sometimes you wish the reviewer would just keep quiet until the end!!
Tommy is SO good his guitar needs to practise.

Paul McCartney would be impressed (both his songs).

Tommy was a drummer before he became a guitar player. That's why is playing uses so much percussion. He also does not read music.
You talk too much.
