- The global population has hit eight billion and is set to reach 11bn by the end of the century.
Nigeria's infrastructure is already straining while maintaining the lives of 200 million people.
But that figure is set to hit 400 million by 2050.
Sky News takes a look at the problems that poses to the west African country and to other similar nations.

Nigeria needs to take responsibility for it's population. If it's out of control, then they need to deal with it.

Nigeria is at number 67 for population density according to wikipedia. The UK has more people per square mile than Nigeria. Countries like South Korea, Lebanon and Netherlands have nearly twice as many people per square mile as Nigeria.

The problem in Nigeria is that they crowd people into the cities and leave a lot of the country empty. I think it has about 3 times the population of the UK and about 3.5 times the area.

Maybe the sea level isn't rising, maybe things are just settling from so many people. Or any number of reasons. But I can make excuses too.

@@sladewilson377 that's is somewhat true. It's surely better here than in Africa. However, our healthcare and infrastructure are so behind. Few of my mates moved away from the UK to different countries. They all pointed out that life in the UK could be so much better but nothing works here well. The overpopulation causes many issues here.

Nigeria is one of the few countries which has a demographic that sustains a human future, unlike most countries especially communist China.

Since the British left in 1960 Nigeria has sunk into ethnic strife, political executions and mayhem.
The population numbers are good but the administration of the economy has been very poor, since the Brits left.
