I'd consider adding Release to the Wind. Reuse cascade or etb triggers, deal with an incoming attacker, reset a walker to starting loyalty. It's very versatile and very underrated imo
I the process of building this. I've ordered anything and everything with alternate casting costs. Emerge, suspend, convoke, evoke etc. I don't care if it's gonna be weakish, I just wanted to play these cards. Will definitely add Keruga
Deconstruct is an interesting option for targeted artifact destruction in this one. Destroy artifact for free and filter mana to GGG after. So even if you aren't particularly concerned about that artifact, you can tempo your opponent while fixing your mana at the same time.
currently building an imoti mostly sea monsters deck.. thank you for all the great suggestions in this video. your voice is really nice to listen to and you give great reasonings about why you include some cards, love it! you deserve way more subs and views! keep it up :)
Went in a similar direction when I built Gilanra+Brinelin with Keruga, with the exception of the companion I chose to only include commons and uncommons. The downside in building with only commons and uncommons is that there aren't any boardwipes.
I play this commander with only cards that cost 5 ore more. The only spells for four mana are goreclaw and green double ramp spells. With this setup i have 7 lands after playing my commander every game. Lost only one game with this deck. It’s the most consistent deck I play and I love it so much.
If I am also understanding this, if your spells have cascade, and you cast a 7 drop and the reveal a 6 drop, you will end up casting that and then also having another trigger of cascade so you might be able to cheat out more than one thing
I built something similar a few weeks ago. I only used cards I had lying around though, so I gave no thought to budget. I have wanted to use Keruga as companion for ages, and this seemed like the perfect fit. My curve starts on 4CMC and is rigged so Imoti will only cascade into double ramp spells, which sets things up nicely for casting most of the deck as well as recasting Imoti easily if she dies. Despite a 'late' curve, I have some things I can do on early turns, in addition to putting Keruga into my hand on turn three. I haven't had much opportunity to playtest, given the world as it is... Might have to concede the 4 drop ramp stipulation, but I really like the idea of never cascading into a feel-bad. And it might be more 'balanced' with the slightly slower approach. Once it gets going it REALLY goes. My primary Tech cards are very budget friendly though. I particularly like Stolen Identity as it can cascade twice on the turn you cast it, and even more if the ciphered creature lives. Aminatou's Augury is fantastic too, it can start multiple cascade chains, almost a second Apex Devastator. Durkwood Baloth and Errant Ephemeron, if suspended on curve, go off the turn after Imoti comes out, cascading and gaining haste. Aethersnipe and Walker of the Grove can be Evoked on the cheap, while still cascading based on their CMC. I'm running a slightly higher land count to ensure Imoti hits the board on curve, would probably cut a few if I added 3 cmc ramp. tappedout.net/mtg-decks/imoti-timmy-tribal/?cat=custom&sort=name&cb=1608820611
DJ: “Ih-mAt-tee” Also DJ, 3 seconds later: “Ih-mOh-di Lol just messing with yah DJ, sweet deck tech as usual. I also love this uncommon guy, he’s fantastic for that fun big splashy commander (my favorite ☺️)
Any suggestions for a no budget build DJ? I was thinking of the same combination of commander+companion as yours, and I would love to know if you have any reccomandations :)
I have this built, and I'm curious to see how you built it. I'm attempting to balance fun and power. I like group hug ramp like veteran explorer and heartbeat of spring, for example. Nobody hates to see rites of flourishing hit the board. Edit: just got through it. Got some cool ideas. Love the big Counterspells and some of the dual use cards. I still think I won't play keruga though, even though I love the creature types as a concept
That's a bug, by the rules it should be a 4 cmc card. 708.4b The mana cost of a split card is the combined mana costs of its two halves. A split card’s colors and converted mana cost are determined from its combined mana cost. An effect that refers specifically to the symbols in a split card’s mana cost sees the separate symbols rather than the whole mana cost.
Good question. The cost of the spell on the stack is what is on the card. Not what you paid for it (except for X spells ... I know right? Crazy magic). Here is a ruling about the cost reduction Animar applies to cards, same logic: magicjudge.tumblr.com/post/128796667567/does-animars-ability-change-the-cmc-of-cards-in
I really like the idea of this deck. And I really like how Budget it is. But I suspect it's too slow for my playgroup. I do love that your not cascading into arcane signet and Mana dorks though. I think I may have to test it like this and with a 12 card 1-2 cmc ramp package and The Dino hippo in the 99.
"dont worry about ramp" uhm I'm worried about lack of ramp dude.. saying I shouldnt worry about it without giving me a single reason not to worry about it doesnt make me worry less
Love when you share budget commander decks. This one looks like a blast.
Hi DJ!
Miss your podcasts at the command zone!
You should do a podcast!!!
We love to hear you talk about commander!
I love the glee of just deciding not to run one and two drops
But at the same time, slow ramping
I rather Cascade into 1-2 drops once in a while than skipping my first 2 turns in development. It's way too high of a downside
As soon as I saw this I really wanted to build it. And I love Keruga but never could find a good home for him. Thanks for the ideas!
I'd consider adding Release to the Wind. Reuse cascade or etb triggers, deal with an incoming attacker, reset a walker to starting loyalty. It's very versatile and very underrated imo
1:48 First you had my curiosity, now you have my attention...
This is exactly the deck I wanted to make with this Commander.
I've been looking for an excuse to build a Companion deck and I think you just gave it to me! Awesome as always DJ!
I the process of building this. I've ordered anything and everything with alternate casting costs. Emerge, suspend, convoke, evoke etc. I don't care if it's gonna be weakish, I just wanted to play these cards. Will definitely add Keruga

I upgraded the "Reap the Tides" commander pre-con and put Imoti at the helm... kept the Kraken/Serpent sub-theme for the beaters.... its sweeeeeeet.
Did the exact same thing.
If I am also understanding this, if your spells have cascade, and you cast a 7 drop and the reveal a 6 drop, you will end up casting that and then also having another trigger of cascade so you might be able to cheat out more than one thing
Yes, that is correct. You can get a ton of value off of one single spell if you get very lucky.
I've been eyeballing this commander. Looks like a lot of fun.
I've been brewing Imoti for a couple weeks. She can get out of hand very quickly and is a blast to play.
I built this commander and man I love it, its very different from this build but still
I made imoti with a lot of bounce for her field wipes, she does not mind at all being recast while putting others behind
I was hoping for a budget deck list for this commander!

Annnd this deck seems amazing! A tweak or two just for the personal touch and it’s done!
"The henge is 20 bucks" .....and now its 50ish
you may want to consider Thunderous Snapper. You have 36 cards that are cmc 5+. That's plenty of fuel for thunderous snapper.
Awesome deck tech just bought this commander
I just got your budget collection for my brother as a gift, hope he likes it!
I got a foil Averna the other day.
Making a cascade deck based on her and Ive watched 3 different builds so far. Yours being 4th.
I want to Cascade all my Jumbo Commander videos so that I can see more Jumbo Commander videos!

I didn't think imoti was that interesting but now I want to build this deck
Imoti can be bunkers spells like extra turns and avenger of zenitkar make this deck just explode the second the first cascade goes off
I was looking at this card and thinking it would be very fun to build around
Careful Cultivation would be a nice include
one and a green channel for a mana dork but the card has cmc of three.
I just made a surrak big boi deck with keruga as the companion
Definitely paying a bit more to add in Goreclaw. This deck looks really sweet.
I'm finally building this deck almost a year later
I have this built, and I'm curious to see how you built it. I'm attempting to balance fun and power. I like group hug ramp like veteran explorer and heartbeat of spring, for example. Nobody hates to see rites of flourishing hit the board.
Edit: just got through it. Got some cool ideas. Love the big Counterspells and some of the dual use cards. I still think I won't play keruga though, even though I love the creature types as a concept
Korean Drover reduces cost of creatures that cost 6 or more. It could do a lot of work here
I’m using gilrana and brinlen and keruga as the companion with imoti in the 99! But this list with imoti looks jus as fun
I would recommend Krosan Drover instead of Goreclaw as it's a little more on theme and much easier on the budget.
I'm surprised you didn't go with Averna, the Chaos Bloom
Isn't Spring//Mind 9 cmc? Works even better for this deck if so!
Momir vig is an auto include in my opinion. Rashmi is also great.
Great video
I feel like Harrow should be in the deck.
I'm surprised it's not
I like this commander, wondering if she gives cards that have cascade an extra. Like Apex Devastator would have 5 cascades with Imoti in play.
Yessir
Every instant of cascade triggers seperately right? Cuz then my maelstrom wanderer needs this
Wow i but it out of mostly commander legends cards and its a blast just for drafting
Wait. Cascade says you MAY cast the spell. Meaning you can run any card with low cmc and choose not to cast it right? Like you can just keep digging 🤔
I feel like this is the exact same thing riley knight posted on channelfireball
SO, Incubation is a 1 cmc card. I tried on Arena right now and Keruga forbids it to be placed.
That's a bug, by the rules it should be a 4 cmc card. 708.4b The mana cost of a split card is the combined mana costs of its two halves. So question, does *reduce the casting cost by X" not make its cmc lower therefore not triggering imoti?
Good question. The cost of the spell on the stack is what is on the card. Not what you paid for it (except for X spells ... I know right? Crazy magic). This deck is sweet
Run Sun quan for horsemanship
this channel has really gone down hill
"dont worry about ramp"
uhm I'm worried about lack of ramp dude.. saying I shouldnt worry about it without giving me a single reason not to worry about it doesnt make me worry less
??? 15 pieces of ramp is pretty good for such a high cmc deck. I have 13 for my Animar Keruga Companion deck, it works well
