    Denim also makes a good burnishing rag. I cut up old jeans and use the denim for edge burnishing and also for buffing with leather balm.

    OLD Leather Smith here, nice helps Chuck. Suggestions, I have been doing this a loooog time, so I didn't have sll the stuff they hsve now adays, ,2 burnish I always use a cocobolo rub stick i remade and mouth water, works very well, 4 punches I use parefin wax or bees wax on the points goes in the thick leather and comes out easier. It also works great on punches. Thanks 4 all you do. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

    Chuck! An idea for a video or Leather Element! If you know of any resources for learning about the "why" of leatherworking, it'd be great to have a bit of a show and tell! Stuff like why latigo is super stiff, or why alchohol dye works differently to other types, or why each part of a hide behaves differently (bends, shoulders, bellies). You are the absolute authority in modern times on the "how" of leather thanks to all these videos you produce, but I realize as a new crafter I just dont understand 'Why' we do the 'How's if that makes sense! Thanks!

    Thanks Chuck! Great to see these videos. I have been working on some thicker projects recently. It must've been one of your earlier videos that gave me the idea of using canvas for slicking, and it really works great. Of note, the Notebook kit comes with canvas and explains how to burnish the edges with the canvas. I highly recommend those kits to learn how to stitch and finish leather. Thanks again, Chuck. :)

    Maybe someone suggested this already, but for pattern making material, old x ray film works really nice. Now its not as thick as poster board, but its very durable.

    Love the shop tricks videos! I wanted to see if you could do a video just on burnishing different leathers (chrome, oil tan etc) and the different possibilities (supplies, tools etc). It’s sometimes really hard!

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  Рік тому +1

      Most of the time, chrome tanned leather will not burnish. You can try tokonole but for the most part, if you want to clean chrome tanned edges, using an edge paint or edge coat is the best way to go. Hope that helps!

      @@WeaverLeatherSupply thanks for the reply! Maybe a video on edge paint? I am not sure what to look for or what’s a good product.

    Hey Chuck I just put this same request on another video, but I'm putting it here because in this video you asked for ideas about tips, so this one I feel more appropriate.
    Could you show how to control the French edge beveler tool for an even cut? That's a hard tool to get down but I love it so much I'd really like to use it more often. Thanks again! Love these videos.

    great video as always, I buy natural leather because I"m just being at leather work and cost.
    How do I keep from getting stripes when I dye? I use a dabber now and really dont want to dip dye..
    Thanks, Jim

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  Рік тому

      Hi there, you can try applying the dye in a circular motion instead of back and forth in straight lines. Another option would be using a sponge to cover more area at one time or a piece of shearling.

    SUGGESTION: "Why Weaver vs amazon or others?" Do videos showing why weaver is better than the alternative. Focus on product quality, service, ease of availability (how easy is it to buy from you if you don't live in the US, etc), customer service, etc. Product availability, things like that. Essentially, why buy from you vs the others (particularly if you don't live in the US).
    PS. if that's worth anything to Weaver, I'm totally open to receiving whatever you send.

    Is there any chance of making a video about covering an abused book safe with leather? I have a friend who has one that the cover is nearly ripped off. This is Free man by the way, YT screwed up our names again.

    I literally can’t stand my master tool French edger. Damn thing was like 70 bucks. So I bought a different one. I’ve noticed that the new one gives me most of the same types of problems yet solves one or 2 of them. My advice to new comers- buy two completely different French edgers. My advice to weaver- list the steel and manufacturer on your package, put out a video hosted buy a person whom is excellent using one and drop the price to 50 bucks. It ain’t bad, the master tool French edger… but it isn’t well thought out or advertised well.
    Change the steel
    Change the claims
    Price accordingly
