I cant remember if it was a deity or not but The Beast of Hollow Mountain was a dinosaur that was feared by the locals like some kind of evil spirit (deities arent always worshiped, sometimes just feared like many gods related to death, disease, misfortune, etc)
@@nobodyinparticular9640 sounds like WW2 alright. The Nazis, Soviets, and Japanese were like aliens compared to the rest of humanity. Their medical experiments, genocides, callus disregard for human life, insane ideologies, and blood lust all make them seem more like creatures from another planet than human regardless of their outward appearance.
I actually like how modern weaponry works against them and the military uses the airforce against them, but still keep the monsters dangerous. I feel like too many movies and media make the weird decision for jets and to lose to kind of giant fleshy targets and for human weaponry to have little effect.
Or they even make it so once the humans start killing whatever creatures they need to, suddenly it's easy as hell to beat them and it montages as the creatures get wiped out.
True they did the same in transformers but actually stated modern military would destroy them with ease but evened it out to make the decepticons more of a threat
that always bothers me since if you know anything about modern bombs you'd know just how destructive they are. Even high strength steel, much less flesh, cant withstand it. "bunker busters" and similar can punch through meters of steel reinforced concrete and still destroy most if not all of a building so if you hit a giant monster with it even if it's skin is as strong as steel and the creature is bigger than a skyscraper it's still toast. That's all without bringing up nukes, chemical weapons, or incendiary weapons. Even some anti-armor rockets and missiles can punch through flesh and metal pretty easy, some like certain RPGs melt copper or other metals in the rocket and force a jet of molten metal into the target melting it as much as blowing it up, similar story with weapons like Thermite.
I always just flat-out didn't understand why Hollywood seems to be persistently insistent not to do more dinosaur media for fear of competing with the Jurassic Series, but will happily turn out period pieces, fantasy films, and superhero films by the truckload.

kind of a shame they didn't make a movie of it though, it sounds like a Dinosaur story that isn;t just the usual "Dino park gone wrong" or "so you are lost on a dinosaur island" this implies that dinosaurs are just literal demons, kind of wish they made the film
The series Primeval does kinda go in the direction of Dinosaurs Attack where temporal anomalies cause dinosaurs and other dangerous creatures from the past to show up and wreak havoc in modern day Britain
yeah and nowadays a film of it would never work, both because I feel like in the current cultural moment this kind of satirical-wackiness-with-a-dark-edge would be hard to pull off, but also because they'd probably try to make it no more than PG-13-rated to milk as much money from the idea as possible (because not enough groups of adults go out to theaters anymore, it's mostly families now), and that would absolutely mean the violence would need to be massively watered down, and fuck that.
Honestly, if someone knew me in person and decided to put me in a card where I'm being brutally murdered by a retro-dinosaur, I'd be less "That's kinda cool" and more "Man really pulled a Dante, didn't he?".
"Demonic god of dinosaurs" is without a doubt the most batshit insane villain concept I've ever heard of. That sounds like it'd be from a movie called "Turn off brain before viewing."

I remember getting some of those cards from the most unlikely source, my Sunday school teacher. A sweet old lady named Mrs. Miller. Along with the church stuff she would sometimes just take us outside on short walks to the nearby park. I got a bunch of the kids excited for a game that we were tracking dinosaurs. Not too long after there was an easter Sunday celebration and she got easter baskets for all the regulars in her Sunday class. My brother and I had some of those cards in the basket. It was pretty horrific when we opened them on the way home. The card with the Parasaurolophus holding a stroller with a fat little arm and leg falling from its mouth was probably the most disturbing. Luckily our Mom saw the cards and took them away, but in no way blamed Mrs. Miller. She knew her well enough to know she just got them because they had dinosaurs on them, not realizing just how messed up they were. Also the humanoid Saurian from the cards was a theory going around at the time of what Dinosaurs would have looked like today if they had never gone extinct. If anyone else remembers all those dinosaur specials that used to air around that time they might remember seeing that.
I took this as a joke at first then realized this is technically true. Dinosaurs being labeled as the Supreme Monstrosity's children, who IS a demon, would mean they are demons too.
Being early feels nice but i have nothing of value to say so im going to let the funnier, more complex comments wash over me and allow this one to be forgotten to time
I know that the original cards had origin in the earlier monster movies, but I can't help but to think of Getter Robo. I've already mentioned in another video, but I can comment again, because theme of humans vs. dinosaur is also there, but with mecha. It was first published in the early 70s, but it's unlikely the creators of the cards knew of it because it wasn't really translated.
I had these cards when I was a kid and actually still have them. I especially remember "Satansaurus Rex" in particular. Thank you soooo much for doing this it made subscribe to your channel finally.
I love these cards and comic! Thank you for covering this!!! If I were to make a movie about these, I would try to make it like a reverse Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs would be stop motion and looking inaccurate which I think would be funny!
These cards were given to me as a little kid by my folks, thinking it was about Dinosaurs and not thinking past that, the gore and violence scared the literal shit out of me and I had nightmares for days, I wouldn't even look at the cards out of fear of having more Nightmares. So, eventually I buried them outside of our old house under a pile of old rocks out in the back. Now I think about that and think I was very weird for doing that but I was only like 10 at the moment or littler. Feels stupid now, but then I was scared completely shitless and the nightmares were not fun.
I remember reading a really graphic dinosaur graphic novel when I was a kid, I'm curious if anyone else remembers it, All I remember is its violent graphics and the fact that they travels to Dinosaur nation park in Texas. I think it was a Jurassic park canon product.
So Mars Attacks from Tim Burton was just a film adaptation of this cards? Wow - maybe someone will also make Dinosaurs Attack Movie one day? That would be awesome!
Honestly, imagine an adaptation of this story today! I didn’t even realize this was connected to Mars Attack until you mentioned it. Just imagine a comic accurate adaptation in all its glory on the big screen with todays technology! It would be a perfect blend of horror, action, and comedy. And just when you think the movie is over, you see an image of a saucer coming to earth and BAM! You just realized you were watching a Mars Attack sequel and there will be a third one to complete the trilogy.
would only make sense if they somehow used the particle beam to reset the timeline to before the dinosaurs invaded which alerts the martians and prompts them to enact their invasion
I've never heard of Dinosaurs Attack and now I feel like I missed out on something niche and fun. The Supreme Monstrosity is a really cool concept and I wish this was a more expansive universe.
What I expected Dinosaurs Attack to be: A Jurassic Park rip off with a B movie bend, deliberately cheesy. What Dinosaurs Attack turned out to be: “Okay, the good news is that God is real. The bad news is that He’s a dinosaur and He’s pissed.”
Great overview. DINOSAURS ATTACK! remains the funkiest thing I ever created, and I'm very proud of it. It was designed with a film adaptation in mind, and I hope there will indeed be one in my lifetime... even if I have to make it myself. By the way, I was co-writing the original screenplay for Stan Winston's PUMPKINHEAD when I was preparing DINOSAURS ATTACK! back in 1987, which may explain the demonology connection (along with my need to parody QUATERMASS AND THE PIT). And the Supreme Monstrosity/Dinosaur Diety will apparently be making a dramatic comeback in 2023, as will my alter-ego, Elias Thorne. That's all I can say right now, folks, but trust me... something pretty cool is on the way. Best regards, Gary Gerani
I remember reading this comic when I was a kid. I actually jumped in joy when I saw this thumbnail. Great work for unlocking s great childhood memory!!!
When I saw the title of this video my first thought was that you were going to cover a comic book called Femosaur World. Now that is a comic that would have given you a youtube strike!
I've never heard of this before - never heard of your channel before either, but definitely subbing now. Thanks for the recommendation, UA-cam - but man it seems really awesome! I wish the creative types behind stuff like this wouldn't just be looking at movies for adaptations nowadays though, as this property seems like it might be perfect for some kind of video game. Some over-the-top open world destruction fest a la Destroy All Humans! ReProbed or some kind of insane action game like Earth Defense Force or maybe even some survival thing like the Japan-only Kyohei Toshi/City Shrouded in Shadows (where you play as a normal human trying not to get killed during different, fictional disasters such as Godzilla attacks, battles between Ultraman and Kaiju, or the collateral damage caused by fights involving the mecha from Patlabor (it was published by Bandai Namco; they threw a lot of their licensed properties into the thing, lol). Dinosaur Attacks! may not have gotten it's chance to be a movie, but it could make for a heckuva fun game if the stars aligned :) Still, even just learning about the cards and the story behind it makes me really happy now. Great video!
This needs to be a summer blockbuster. It has great scenes and a storyline perfect for mindless viewing. This should have been a movie series rather than those Transformer atrocities we got.
When I was a kid I loved these cards, and a few years ago I bought an entire box of them for like 30 bucks? Still have it to this day. Thank you for covering this.
This reminds me of the plot of the game "Rampage 2: Universal Tour". The initial plot is about the original trio of giant monsters being rescued by a new trio, and then end up fighting against aliens who attempt to invade Earth just as most of our major cities had been destroyed already.
With this new wave of dino media after the wake of the Jurassic series pretty much ending, maybe we’ll get a big screen adaptation of (or something inspired by) Dinosaur Attack.
My dad used to take me to this weird little toy store called "Scooby's" on saturday mornings, and I would always get a pack of dinosaurs attacks cards. We both had complete sets of the cards in plastic binders. Neat little psuedo factoid: I believe that some of the sticker cards were illustrated by Hal Robbins, who did the voice of the scientists in Halflife, improvized a lot of the techbobabble for the game.
Doesn’t matter dinosaur are awesome and I’m thankful the book end happy unlike that yoki series which ends with the most terrifying way that was trying to beat jaws and even the original Godzilla
Speaking of dinosaur deities,I do sometimes imagine, that there are “gods before the gods” that rules prehistoric Earth in Paleozoic and Mesozoic Era,but these old gods were defeated and overthrown by newer gods in Cenozoic Era. The new gods became the basis of the gods we know in various mythologies, while the existence of old gods were implied by the accounts of Dragon, primordial deities, giants, etc.
Fun fact: in the Zanno lab based in Raleigh NC (the lab headed by paleontologist Lindsay Zanno) each newly arriving member (post-docs, graduate students, preparators etc.) would get a booster pack of the original "Dinosaurs Attack!" cards. (When I was grad student in the lab I received the following cards: #10 Italy under Siege, #19 Madness in the Streets, #38 "We can't hold them back", #47 Supreme Evil, and #54 Rebuilding our world.)
I find the "Fiery Doom" card's description rather interesting, one could see it as the Supreme Monstrosity as a sort of time guardian, and that his actions prior where to punish man-kind for tampering with time!
Idk, I kinda like dinosaur Satan It gives me lovecraftian vibes, this ancient, demonic being that ruled during the Mesozoic suddenly brought into our time, commanding hordes of prehistoric monsters to kill and devour everything It could explain why the dinosaurs, even the herbivores are so bloodthirsty to begin with He’s commanding them to kill everything in sight Edit; That’s exactly what’s going on
14:45 oh goodness! That brown dinosaur in particular seems to resemble the rhedosaurus in beast from 20,000 fathoms! 15:42 oop and there's way more, Reptilicus is the one I spotted out first pfft. too...starting to bridge more into kaiju territory than dinosaur territory
Oh wow! I remember having a bunch of these when I was a kid. I'd traded other card sets with friends for them because my parents wouldn't by them. My mom found 'em and sold them at a garage sale along with all our pristine Star Wars toys, mint condition Marvel comics from the 1970s, and all kinds of stuff that was worth money years later.

Iirc, something of that sort happens in the games Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, as those games are all about time travel shenanigans

@@spingus1 Wait, wasn't there a comic where the first vampire was a dinosaur and it was called "Satan found his first agent on Earth"?
Being early feels nice but i have nothing of value to say so im going to let the funnier, more complex comments wash over me and allow this one to be forgotten to time
I know that the original cards had origin in the earlier monster movies, but I can't help but to think of Getter Robo. I've already mentioned in another video, but I can comment again, because theme of humans vs. dinosaur is also there, but with mecha. It was first published in the early 70s, but it's unlikely the creators of the cards knew of it because it wasn't really translated.
Getter Robo not only has outer space dinosaurs, but also Oni (aka demons from Japanese Mythology) and Alien Insects!
Getter also has a delicious helping of Dino-gore. Dinosaur War Izenborg is another anime thing close to this too.
This plot is pretty batshit insane. Make it into a movie please
one of the most eye catching thumbnails ive ever seen. and then a just as good vid on an incredibly weird comic. thanks for sharing this.
You know my shape-shifting alien parasite oc that has the main form of a very specific dinosaur could benifit from this art-style.
I love this concept. I never thought dinosaur horror and a little comedy could be this good
You haven't seen Jurassic Park?
8:44 A card of Dinosaurs Attack parodying Three Men and a Baby must be the most hilariously unhinged pop culture reference I've ever seen.
A dinosaur apocalypse story like a zombie apocalypse is an interesting idea
I love how in the comic one of the us army soldier is just reading a magazine with Mary Jane from Spider-Man on the back
I had these cards when I was a kid and actually still have them. I especially remember "Satansaurus Rex" in particular. Thank you soooo much for doing this it made subscribe to your channel finally.
Have you ever covered Dinotopia?
The book, movie, or TV show?
Stinktooth lore video when
Is there an animated Dinotopia movie?
@@SlapstickGenius23 Yes, there is.
I love these cards and comic! Thank you for covering this!!!
If I were to make a movie about these, I would try to make it like a reverse Jurassic Park. The dinosaurs would be stop motion and looking inaccurate which I think would be funny!
The idea of dinosaurs being more like eldritch monstrosities reminds me a lot of the anime, Devilman.
SUPER NICE, I first learned about Dinosaur Attack through CGPgrey's podcast
A post apocalypse with martian invaders, dinosaurs, and mutated human monsters would make such a good video game.
I was 12 when these came out and would have absolutely gone mad for these if I had known they existed.
I remember reading a really graphic dinosaur graphic novel when I was a kid, I'm curious if anyone else remembers it, All I remember is its violent graphics and the fact that they travels to Dinosaur nation park in Texas. I think it was a Jurassic park canon product.
Just reverse the polarity of the neutron flow. It always worked for the Third Doctor.
So Mars Attacks from Tim Burton was just a film adaptation of this cards? Wow - maybe someone will also make Dinosaurs Attack Movie one day? That would be awesome!
I'm convinced there are no original movies lol. Everything is an adaptation of something
You just realized you were watching a Mars Attack sequel and there will be a third one to complete the trilogy.
would only make sense if they somehow used the particle beam to reset the timeline to before the dinosaurs invaded which alerts the martians and prompts them to enact their invasion
thamk you for picking up my suggestion. I haven't started watching but i'm sure this is gonna be one heckuva video!
Thank you for suggesting it!
I've never heard of Dinosaurs Attack and now I feel like I missed out on something niche and fun. The Supreme Monstrosity is a really cool concept and I wish this was a more expansive universe.
this is a HUGE part of the Dinosaur Renaissance that I had never heard anything about before! Well done!
If this makes a comeback, they should lean more into the dark comedy. The card backs are hilarious IMO.
I would loooove to see it go into dark comedy akin to The Return of the Living Dead, Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn and countless other horror comedies.
No, I miss schlock taking itself seriously
I can't believe this is the first time I'm hearing about this. And it's got stuff I thought up for fanfics, thinking I was being original.
Wonderful video. I really loved the behind the scenes type of info and you laying out the plot to the cards. Overall one of my fav videos this year :)
Paleo nerds: Inaccurate dinosaurs look more stupid than scary, accurate dinosaurs are scarier
Also inaccurate dinosaurs:
Raptor Jesus vs Dinosaur Satan
In cinemas soon...
Men will literally unleash an inter-temporal Dinosaur invasion instead of going to therapy
This story can work very well in an analog horror style the more that I think about it lol
Huh. I actually wondered what was the mindset behind the Mars Attacks movie. Now, I see it's an adaptation of an earlier work.
Damn, I've never heard of this series until now but I would've loved it as a kid. Feels like I missed out on something awesome
I've got all four of the printing plates used to make the Fiery Doom, dinosaur satan card. I'll get some photos when I'm home.
I had so many of these cards as a kid. Huge nostalgia trip seeing these.
I remember reading this comic when I was a kid. I actually jumped in joy when I saw this thumbnail. Great work for unlocking s great childhood memory!!!
Even dinosaurs have lost media
When I saw the title of this video my first thought was that you were going to cover a comic book called Femosaur World. Now that is a comic that would have given you a youtube strike!
Lol... the way the dinosaurs get to this timeline is absolutely absurd. I love it
“The Martians traveled too far back in time to where there was no universe at all, only hell”
Goddamn, that goes hard!
Mars and Dinosaurs in hell?
(Doomslayer intensifies)
Dinosaur Attacks! may not have gotten it's chance to be a movie, but it could make for a heckuva fun game if the stars aligned :)
Still, even just learning about the cards and the story behind it makes me really happy now. Great video!
I kinda wish Dominion ended up like this.
Least it would have gave what the people wanted
@@ksoundkaiju9256 Precisely. At that point I don't really care for a high art experience. I just wanted to see dinosaurs destroy a city or something.
I never even knew the origins of Mars Attacks! so this was absolutely awesome! also seems like something that might have inspired Primal Rage also.
This needs to be a summer blockbuster. It has great scenes and a storyline perfect for mindless viewing. This should have been a movie series rather than those Transformer atrocities we got.
This video ruled dude! I especially like at 16:00 where you showed all the references they made to Dino cinema. Keep at it 🤙
Aliens and dinosaurs been fighting since the start of time.
indeed
If morality is the prerequisite for having a soul, then humans are mere golems and the dinosaur were victims in this story.
It is preferably the other way around.
Oh yeah I’ve read this comic. It was some years ago but I think I still have it in my room.
They are expensive today you can sell them
When I was a kid I loved these cards, and a few years ago I bought an entire box of them for like 30 bucks? Still have it to this day. Thank you for covering this.
15:44 is it just me or is this a great example of the me and the boys meme
15:05 Mary Jane on the magazine cover
Fun fact: in the Zanno lab based in Raleigh NC (the lab headed by paleontologist Lindsay Zanno) each newly arriving member (post-docs, graduate students, preparators etc.) would get a booster pack of the original "Dinosaurs Attack!" cards.
(When I was grad student in the lab I received the following cards: #10 Italy under Siege, #19 Madness in the Streets, #38 "We can't hold them back", #47 Supreme Evil, and #54 Rebuilding our world.)
Well, time to disguise myself as a member and pay this lab a visit
I find the "Fiery Doom" card's description rather interesting, one could see it as the Supreme Monstrosity as a sort of time guardian, and that his actions prior where to punish man-kind for tampering with time!
This whole concept is easily a 3 hour movie classic 🔥👏
Remove Dinosaur Satan and I'd like to actually see this get made as a movie
Idk, I kinda like dinosaur Satan
It gives me lovecraftian vibes, this ancient, demonic being that ruled during the Mesozoic suddenly brought into our time, commanding hordes of prehistoric monsters to kill and devour everything
It could explain why the dinosaurs, even the herbivores are so bloodthirsty to begin with
He’s commanding them to kill everything in sight
Edit; That’s exactly what’s going on
Nah, Dinosaur Satan is an OG. Can't remove him from the plot XD
So you can roast the hell out of it? Lol
The saurian looks a lot like a Martian from Mars Attacks. I wonder if that's intentional.
huh? It doesn't in any way?
@@Wolffanghurricane In the cards they do. The only difference is that the saurian has skin.
I'm currently writing a dinosaur apocalypse trilogy.
I hope one day that it's deemed worthy of looking into by this channel :)
I love this concept so much, I wanna buy these cards
GOT DINOSAUR LOST MIDEA MEDIA FOR YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lost world jp arcade game had an alternate version of it and it got scrape, now it's lost media. I saw this in a Jurassic Park Arcade Retrospective video
