wow and wow, I've checked some of the links I was interested, and none of them worked, then I tried them all to see and not one link is available in my country. but hey I have something better, you pay for netflix, we have free bflix ;)
13th Warrior did not receive enough accolades back in the day .. extremely entertaining and all the actors did an excellent job. About time someone mentioned it. Yea.
Came here to say this. I just rewatched it with my daughter. It was even better the second time. I feel its big problem is that the story is told from ibn Fadlan's fish out of water perspective. The plot just happens to him and a lot of things go unexplained.
Hero is one of my favorite movies! I was introduced to it in high school when my Eastern Civ teacher suggested we watch it for extra credit (awesome teacher!). One of the best examples of stunning cinematography.
I saw 13th warrior in theatres, i just went in to a show that wasnt sold out so me and my brothers were sitting nearly sole alone watching that movie. we were transfixed. even bought the movie after it copies were released. i never understood why it never really took off.
Terminal is one trippy movie but brilliant. I watched Don't say a word years a go but loved it. The mechanic was very enjoyable, I never saw or even knew about the original.
I appreciate you sharing this list of movies. I look forward to checking them out. Often times, I have a difficult time deciding what to watch. Now I have created a playlist based on your suggestions. Thank you
Terminal was a bit choppy and left me with lots of questions, but I thought the dialogue, especially between Robbie and the teacher guy, was fantastic!
Darren, a bit of an untapped area are best movies on flight entertainment systems. I flew Delta recently, who keeps a massive catalog of movies, and was thinking "I wish I knew what the 10 best movies were on this flight". Travelers need your help :)
Side note there's actually a bit of real history in it. Antonio's character was based of a muslim poet that visited Vikings back in the day. Unfortunately he didn't fight those demon things in real life..lol. The portrayel of Vikings was pretty good though.
Says a lot that 13th Warrior has more mentions in the comments than any of these excellent movies. Solidly in my top 10 of all time! Most badass death scene ever.
For the youngsters out there, there really was fear about killer bees rampaging through the US. I can remember the news segments trying to whip up panic about them.
I live in Arizona and at least three times a summer people get attacked by bees and some die so it may be a myth to you but in Arizona it is a reality.
CORRECTION: 13th Warrior. Micheal Crichton didn't base his book on Beowulf, but on the historical diary of Amhad ibn Fadlan's 10th century account of his travels with the Volga Vikings.
Good call Maxnemo, I believe Mr. Crichton mixed the two together in order to give a realism to the fictional part of his take on Beowulf. Beautifully done on his part.
@getsmart3701 you know. After I wrote that, I started to think how there were indeed some similarities to Beowolf. Thanks! I learned something new that makes the movie even more awesome. 👍
@@getsmart3701 I think I remember Crichton saying that he drew some inspiration from the fact that there was a time in history when physiologically modern humans and now extinct archaic humans co-existed so he reimagined the Beowulf part as a Vikings coming into contact with the last remnants of a different sub-species of homo sapien.
It was both. I double checked. The al-Fadlan chronicle went about as far as the point where he learned their language, and the Wendol were presumably adapted from Beowulf. Wendol/Grendel.
I love The Big Hit. Discovered it on video after it came out - great action, dialogue with humor. Actually made me like Walberg. Being There &The 13th Warrior are excellent. But ROUNDERS is absolutely one of my favorite movies of the 90s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Big Hit is definitely lol gold from Bokeem Woodbine being the Adult video customer of the month by a local video store (!), to Lou Diamond Phillips’s lines (“You know Melvin, out of the hundreds of guys you killed, they most likely have relatives that _do not like you_ “ and winks) to the movie that the hostage’s father made (Taste The Golden Spray). Lol gold (no pun intended) at its finest.
Mos Def in "16 Blocks" was very good, and the overall movie not too shabby, but he was amazing in "The Woodsman." Also starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick.
I totally agree with you about Hero, it's a masterpiece of the genre. And you also mentioned another of my favorites in this genre, House of Flying Daggers. It's another magnum opus in the Wuxia category. Zhang Ziyi has played in so many great movies over the years, including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, The Grandmaster, Memoirs of a Geisha, Hero and many others. One of her best roles for me is the American psychological thriller Horsemen, where se co-starred with Dennis Quaid. She is perhaps my favorite Chinese actress, though Joan Chen and Gong li rank pretty high up there also.
me too! I found it a few months back, and I really enjoy most things ryan reynolds.. i was pleasantly surprised.. have you watched the one where he is a teacher? school of life? if not, hurry! youll love it!
Great stuff, D! I'm a retired RN. When The Rainmaker came out as a novel and then the movie, friends commented that we were lucky that healthcare wasn't really like that. The reality then was (and still is for the most part) exactly like that! Grisham and Swarm's the late Crichton are two of the best researchers/storytellers ever.
I ordered the "Groovy" Bruce Campbell Army of Darkness shirt and I can confirm that it is a very nice shirt with a vibrant graphic on the chest and a cool arm decoration mentioning the channel. I'm a big guy and the XXL fits me perfectly. Some XXL shirts are just giant tents with no real shape. This shirt is much better.
Mos Def is criminally underrated and underappreciated in both film and music. He has always displayed a smooth, laid back, intellectual sense of the world. 'Mathematics' is one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. The samples cut up by Primo along with some of the best lyrics ever written. It has remained in my top three since its inception... And with the complete collapse in the quality of hip hop some time after the turn of the century, it will likely remain their forever.
Funny, I watched the first 2 just recently, as I am constantly parousing the free section on here, those two movies are awesome! Also, the girl next door, one of the better movies on this list without a doubt, so good, so endearing, so awesome!
16 blocks was always one of my favorite hidden gems! Never saw Terminal though and I’m a stone cold sucker for anything Margot Robbie so I’ll be checking that out
I remember watching Dont Say a Word in theaters and i always wondered why it never became a popular rental or played on the cable circuit. I believe it came on Lifetime a few times but im fairly certain that was it. I have always loved Brittany Murphy so that movie was especially dear to me. If anyone who reads this wants to watch another fairly unknown Brittany Murphy movie that is just amazing go check out The Dead Girl.
the GF just watched The 13th Warrior for the first time the other day , great movie ; Flick Connection is the GOAT when it comes to recommendations =] stay awesome Darren
Being There and The King of Comedy are two of the best movies of the last half century. I'm not joking. They're better than almost everything you'll find on any streaming service you have to pay for.
Hero with Jet Li has been in my top 10, maybe even top 5 movies of all time. I love this movie. The fight scene with the two women in it, the way the leaves change color is just amazing. And so many incredibly subtle things like the candles start flickering when the king realizes he's being lied to. Just a phenomenal movie in so many ways.
Albino Alligator was one of Mat Dillon's best. What a cast with Gary Senise, Faye Dunaway and Viggo Mortensen before he became big with "The Green Book". As always U Da Man - Thanx 👍
I recently found your channel and subscribed after watching 2 videos. Thank you, you really give good reviews/suggestions. Oddly interesting/satisfying personality you have also.
Being There holds up well despite the passage of time. The King of Comedy is worthwhile for Jerry Lewis' great performance. He wipes the floor with DeNiro.
For martial arts flicks check out HOUSE OF THE FLYING DAGGERS..if you like the cinematography of HERO, you'll lose your mind with this one. It is the most beautiful movie of the genre
Rounders was adapted from the book "Balling the Jack" by Frank Baldwin. He was my upstairs neighbor back in the 90s b4 SF went full libtard. You never go full libtard!
Some great movies here; I actually have in hard copies "16 blocks" "13th warrior" "Copland" "rounders" and "Hero" and gladly rewatch them now and then. "Rounders" poster still proudly adorns one of my walls. Though my favourite Matt Damon movie is "Dogma" ;), maybe.
I'll give you Beowulf for _The 13th Warrior,_ but it was also significantly based on a 10th century manuscript by an Arab traveler named ibn Al-Fadlan, whose account informed the titular character, played by Antonio Banderas. The vikings were played by Danish actors whose Danish dialogue was their own modern Danish. I fell in love with about 3 of them. You've earned my respect putting this in your top 10.
Check out 1994's cult classic Luc Besson's "Leon The Professional" starring Jean Reno and a teeny Natalie Portman in her debut role plus the great Gary Oldman. Watch it followed by Colombiana, as Colombiana was originally written as a sequel to Leon, but there was friction between writer Besson and the studio plus Portman wasn't on board with a sequel. Also recommend Equilibrium
I haven't finished the video yet, but I wanted to say that The Big Hit is one of my favorite action/comedies. [Spoilers for The Big Hit Incoming, you should watch the movie if you haven't seen it.] I've watched this movie so many times back in the day, and as you mentioned Lou's character just steals the show everytime he's on screen. One of my favorite moments is when they fight in the video store, and they get distracted by their friend being the biggest client for "pron". The way the joke is set up during the movie to get this ridiculous playoff makes me smile thinking about it. (Also how many times Cisco should've died but didn't until their last fight. I want so much to rewatch the movie right now just thinking about it. And the romance was pretty wholesome in some way.) Anyways, cheers from France! 🍻

“Being there” is one of the most underrated movies on this list! A classic!
Being There is still very accurate!!
Being There is my favorite Peter Sellers movie. Glad it was recognized.
I remember seeing Freaks for free on youtube a while back, was amazed to find such an amazing movie for free on youtube
13th warrior is an excellent flick. The yelling of Beowulf
Well worth the watch.
Being There has always been one of my favorite movies. Another great list, sir.
Should offer: "Emprior of the North", "Where water flows North", "Fastest Indian in the World".
I thought Terminal was horrible, but Nerve looks good!
Terminal is one trippy movie but brilliant. I watched Don't say a word years a go but loved it. The mechanic was very enjoyable, I never saw or even knew about the original.
Don’t Say a Word is one of a string of underrated Michael Douglas films from the 90s (Traffic, The Game). Brittany Murphy is eerily good.
Albino alligator is one of my favs.
Great list! You outdid yourself this time.
I appreciate you sharing this list of movies. I look forward to checking them out. Often times, I have a difficult time deciding what to watch. Now I have created a playlist based on your suggestions. Thank you
Copland is really good. Proof that Sly is a very good, smart actor.
Absolutely no one(or two) does this better than DVD
I watch a lot of films and I am amazed at how few of these I have never heard of. Thank you.
Being There is the most brilliant movie I have ever seen.
Dune is free, not the redo but the older one by David Lynch.
Terminal was a bit choppy and left me with lots of questions, but I thought the dialogue, especially between Robbie and the teacher guy, was fantastic!
Fighting with my family is SO good.
8:50 Nick Frost is the important bit here .
Hero is one of my all time favorites. Such an incredible film.
I still watch Rounders from time to time, usually with a package of Oreos. UA-cam does have a lot of hidden gems.
Darren, a bit of an untapped area are best movies on flight entertainment systems. I flew Delta recently, who keeps a massive catalog of movies, and was thinking "I wish I knew what the 10 best movies were on this flight". Travelers need your help :)
You had me at “stars Margot Robbie”
Been enjoy Y/T's freebees for awhile. The Raven was/is choice! Doin' the "Mech" later 👍👍
13th Warrior is a great, daft, but great film. Herger the Joyous was such a character.
Pay that man his money
Walburg was in a boys band. Not a rapper.
Being there is the best!!!!
That t-shirt is badass.
Country specific and not available in Canada, still a great video.
The big hit is from 1997... albino alligator great movie...my movie buff days
Where is the secret list?
I would buy that shirt if it was the Wolf man instead of the creature from the black lagoon.
Thanks Man!!!:)
Well rounded list.
He never died with Henry Rollins. Also she never died is worth watching
Cop Land is not free. It's buy or rent. So is 16 blocks and don't say a word. Albino Alligator is not even there.
The Big Hit was released in 1998
I couldn't get into most of these. I tried but I couldn't stay with them.
Cool! THANX!❤
I can’t disagree more about 16 Blocks. Mos Def’s character is the f-ing worst 😂
The 13th Warrior is a gem! Totally re-watchable.
I've watched this three times each as good as the first
Surprising actually. It was very interesting.
Side note there's actually a bit of real history in it. Antonio's character was based of a muslim poet that visited Vikings back in the day. Unfortunately he didn't fight those demon things in real life..lol. The portrayel of Vikings was pretty good though.

YES!!
For the youngsters out there, there really was fear about killer bees rampaging through the US. I can remember the news segments trying to whip up panic about them.
True… they were totally sure we were all going to live our lives in fear of being killed by a swarm of bees. Not sure what happened…
Save the beeeeezzzzzz! 😊
Yup! Scared the crap out of us during my third grade-year summer in 1978!
From what I remember (I was young) they were described in the media as “Africanized” killer bees.
I live in Arizona and at least three times a summer people get attacked by bees and some die so it may be a myth to you but in Arizona it is a reality.

I’m sorry but the mechanic remake was absolute garbage. Unwatchable.
Was interested in The 13th Warrior, but when I clicked on the link, it's "listed as private." Oh well.
Can't go wrong with Jason Statham and Ben Foster in the mechanic.
I loved the original when I was a young guy and this remake will not disappoint!
When you say chicken licking is licking chicken, nobody gets it but they cut your alcohol off
Great list...I really liked Chaos Theory.
me too! I found it a few months back, and I really enjoy most things ryan reynolds.. i was pleasantly surprised.. have you watched the one where he is a teacher? school of life? if not, hurry! youll love it!
I've only seen about half of these. Thanks for the update, man!
Right on, glad to hear it!
Darn -1st time in my life I feel like it sucks tobe Canadian - not available in my country
This is a very unique list....great job, man! The Big Hit is such a crazy/great action flick and Phillips DOES deliver the goods in it!
I've been into movies for decades. Free or not most aren't worth watching.
Just watched NERVE" - WOW! Thanks!
Mos Def, Jack Black, and Danny Glover in Michel Gondry's odd Be Kind Rewind is a delightfully strange homage.
No it does not as soon as you get their it asks buy or rent on those movies even when I had the premium

Funny, I watched the first 2 just recently, as I am constantly parousing the free section on here, those two movies are awesome! Also, the girl next door, one of the better movies on this list without a doubt, so good, so endearing, so awesome!
Joker is more then loosely based on The King of Comedy... In fact, Deniro playing the host in Joker is a tip of the hat to king of comedy.
per usual Darren, great picks ! Although, one thing I hate with UA-cam. Most movies are capped at 480p. Such a pity.
16 blocks was always one of my favorite hidden gems! Never saw Terminal though and I’m a stone cold sucker for anything Margot Robbie so I’ll be checking that out

You missed the chance to mention Spring (2014) from the creators of the endless
Terminal is such an insanely underrated movie, I'll never understand how it got such bad reviews...
the GF just watched The 13th Warrior for the first time the other day , great movie ; Flick Connection is the GOAT when it comes to recommendations =] stay awesome Darren
Being There and The King of Comedy are two of the best movies of the last half century. I'm not joking. They're better than almost everything you'll find on any streaming service you have to pay for.
Great FLICK CONNECTION Darren. Loved you synopsis on each film. Many thanks for sharing with us 👍👍👍
Hero with Jet Li has been in my top 10, maybe even top 5 movies of all time. I love this movie. The fight scene with the two women in it, the way the leaves change color is just amazing. And so many incredibly subtle things like the candles start flickering when the king realizes he's being lied to. Just a phenomenal movie in so many ways.
Thumbs up if *Oscar* is one of your favorite Stallone flicks 😊.
Stallone is FANTASTIC in Copland. Great acting job by him.
Albino Alligator was one of Mat Dillon's best. What a cast with Gary Senise, Faye Dunaway and Viggo Mortensen before he became big with "The Green Book". As always U Da Man - Thanx 👍
Being There is SO GREAT.
It's a shame you just don't see Matt Dillon in modern films a lot of great actors just get overlooked over the years.
He is perfect in The House That Jack Built
I recently found your channel and subscribed after watching 2 videos.
Thank you,
you really give good reviews/suggestions.
Free they certainly are not.
Being There is an absolute CLASSIC!!! Got a good list out of the others. Thanks, Darren!
Rounders was adapted from the book "Balling the Jack" by Frank Baldwin. He was my upstairs neighbor back in the 90s b4 SF went full libtard. You never go full libtard!
Free with ads is not free.
Thanks for sharing.
😊Great video n thanks for the info🎉 I have to say tho..."BEING THERE" is the only movie i've walked out on i my life😮 OMG! THE WORST LOL😊
I'd like to have one of your shirts, but you only go up to a 2X, I wear 5X, 6'4" and 300 lbs can't do a 2X.
I haven't finished the video yet, but I wanted to say that The Big Hit is one of my favorite action/comedies.
[Spoilers for The Big Hit Incoming, you should watch the movie if you haven't seen it.]
I've watched this movie so many times back in the day, and as you mentioned Lou's character just steals the show everytime he's on screen.
And the romance was pretty wholesome in some way.)
Anyways, cheers from France! 🍻
