This is the only track I can think of where Thought doesn't clearly outclass the other people on the track. I honestly can't say who did best. They were both so damn good. People always want to say Thought is the most slept on/underappreciated/etc but Pharoahe gets less love than Thought. Of course, he only puts out an album every 37 years so...but yeah. ildivino10 You clearly are incapable of deciphering Black Thought's verse if you assume that Pharoahe Monch is being humble here. Black Thought's verse was full of 5%er theology and lyrical gold in general. 'I bare arms like button downs without the sleeves, manic depressive and possessive like apostrophes' 'Black is as miraculous as Jesus of Nazareth, when I vocalize the crowd rise like Lazarus' They are both top lyricists in hip hop. On this particular track, Black Thought had the edge. Pharoahe Monch got out shined on his own album. To reiterate, considering that Black Thought is a veteran I don't think that Pharoahe Monch would have to be humble. Intricacy existed in both verses but Black Thought's verse is contender for verse of the year along with his verse on "The Imperial". Black Thought's verse on "Birds Eye View" was verse of the year 2013 and this one right here is verse of the year 2014.
My point was Pharoahe has claimed that he has received many L's and is a very humble dude. Now if he had said, Yo, Blackthought is the first person to get me I would have looked at it with more credibility. Black Thought is on my mount Rushmore of MCs, I respect his talent, delivery and incredible lyricism. He definitely added to this track. When Monch says: The opposite of Mephistopheles' eye inside an isosceles, Sent to Earth to warn of environmental atrocities, and nobody can copy me, his internal rhyme scheme is just on another planet and these quadruple rhymes are near perfect. His use of alliteration, as I mentioned originally is just another example of his poetic rhythmic flow. Now content wise, Monch was compiling multiple scattered concepts which reflect his artistry: Comedy, Grew 5 times my size; Social Political, The MLK Man United ref plus aforementioned bars; Bullet Personification, With an arrangement of bullets that I've arranged. I respect Black Thought, and you, but lets face it, Monch is the best lyricist, has the best catalogue, the best rhyme schemes and is better live. The Roots were great, but the band are more critical to their performance than Black Thought, Pharoahe just kills it with a mic.
