      when you fight for survival every day of you life, prize fighting is easy. it's a win win proposition, at least you get you know where the punches are coming from and you have an actual chance to win based on your own merits. i notice all these fighters from hyper-capitalist system countries focus on giving back, while the yanks (who get individualism pounded into their sense of being, while ironically also have socialist christian values ) glorifying grandiose "this was all me" sense of attitude. i know the state department has been pushing individualism for 100 years to curb creeping socialism, but promoting selfishness has to come back to bite you in the ass sooner or later as a country. starting wars every 5 years, then telling your populus to get behind these 18-20 year old kids can't keep your country together forever

    What i took from this was that Charles' mother, father and the coach that offered him free training were the most important influences in his life that led him down the path he took. Seemed like his mother and father were such amazing people. They say you cant choose your family, but if you could, id imagine you would want parents of the same calibre and quality of Charles' mother and father.

      Generally 90% of Brazilian athletes come from favelas. Because they believe it will be their only way to change their lives. While the Brazilian middle class and upper class invest more in academic and professional training, intending to be a doctor, lawyer, judge, administrator, public servant or a large corporation. As someone who actually lives and works in The Bronx, NY, seeing that they call Charles' neighborhood "The Bronx" actually makes it feel like it is not as bad as the reality. A favela in Brazil must be an unimaginable existance for people that were never there. I live in Brazil, in my city there are no favelas, but in Rio de Janeiro there are a lot of wars in the favela of faction vs faction, vs militias, and vs the police, Charles was born in Guarujá São Paulo I imagine the favelas there are less worse than the one in Rio de Janeiro, but I will never know since I have never lived in a favela.

      when you get down to it, its not HIGHLY different than a very poor trailer park and some places in america. Alot of it might be bootlegged, but in one way or another, most of the ppl in the favelas have roofs, electricity, running water, cell phones with net connection, nice clothes, and alot even have cars. Overall, it could be considered maybe a little more ghetto version of ghetto living in the US tbh. I dont think alot of americans would have near as a hard of time adapting to favela life as they would life in some parts of the world. The culture is fairly similar to america as well once u get down to it.

      Dudes always been a phenom. Since the time he came into the ufc when he was 20, like other young fighters like Holloway and Poirier this dude always was a phenom. I think having his daughter but also not killing himself to fw when he clearly is an even big lw that he’s reallly come into his prime though. I think tbh the way Charles path has gone is more entertaining to watch then khabib, and that’s not taking away from khabib or to pretend like he wasn’t dominant the way he was because he was simply born talented because obviously worked everyday to be as good as he was, but to watch someone overcome adversity to me is more fulfilling then just watching someone utterly dominant everyone.

    Though Gaethje was never my favorite fighter, as a fan, it’s always been easy to appreciate his toughness and showmanship. Through the whole press tour for ufc 274 when Gaethje decided to trot out the dusty old “Charles is a quitter” line I was shaking my head. I knew Justin was prone to that sort of nonsensical denial of facts, but man did he highlight a major character flaw. If you know about Charles then you understand that he’s got a rare level of physical and psychological endurance. Gaethje grew up in the American middle class, had a pretty normal life and opportunities for an American. Charles had to fight so much harder to get where he is. I’m not a Gaethje hater (yet) but I did take satisfaction in seeing his fat head looking like a ham as he tapped out to “the quitter” in round one. Do Bronx 💪🏼

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 2 роки тому +3

      If you look at the statistics of fighter backgrounds, most come from poor, sometimes extremely poor (like Charles or Ngannou) backgrounds with no other options for socioeconomic advancement (like Gaethje only having mine work if he didn't fight). It's very rare to see a fighter come from a wealthy, or even a lower Middle Class background, and if you listen to fighter stories coming up, they lived in pretty atrocious conditions until they find some form of support (sponsorship, loans by gyms, or just amateur fight purses). Because not many people are going to choose to fight if they have other options. I mean what are you going to do if you have two options and one of them pays better from the start and doesn't include serious risk to your health?
      In other words we get entertainment from watching a bunch of people trying to escape poverty by giving each other CTE.
      It's why higher fighter pay at all levels and better fighter treatment (organization provided medical insurance, financial support at low levels, etc) should be a priority.
