    to me music is about creating melodies and having fun. and thats where django succeeded. he not only created wonderful melodies but they were fun to listen to because they were almost like if they were sung by himself. todays players cant replicate that, they just play a bunch of random notes that sound good together, but you feel no emotion because the melodies arent there. to me at least.
    some people will probably be angry about this and thats fine. its my opinion.

    Playing faster and faster is not, to me, music's endgame.
    I like so much Tchavolo's playing... and love it more than Stochelo's style. it gives so much happiness and it reminds to what it means to be a manouche guitarist: try to spread feelings and make people dreaming.
    The same Django was able to play much faster than he usually did, though he had only 2 fingers.
    But it's not music then, it's just a rally between guitars.
    I think gipsy jazz is not that.
    Let the music breathe, man! :)

    so people in here who says - faster is not better - basically says that gypsy jazz sux? django played even faster, and always with 16th notes everywhere, and he had a lot of beautiful melodies. If you mean that you need to have max 2 notes per bar, so dude jazz is not for you. in here is everything based on chord arpeggios. when they play theme itself, they play it "as-is" a lot of times, with less notes, when they improvise, they improvise around theme.. so what's your problem with that? it's definition of jazz!

    • @dako2117
      @dako2117 9 років тому +1

      No, they're probably saying that just because its faster it doesn't mean that it's better. You can still play faster and be better but sometimes it just doesn't always work out.

    • @H0E0M0G14
      @H0E0M0G14 9 років тому +1

      ***** This is freaking stupid to read. Jim Hall is a master of jazz guitar, and he played very few selective notes. Django, Jimmy Raney and so on are also masters, but with different style that require more notes. It is about the melody, and the pauses between them. Listen from 2:05 to 2:15, he plays a difficult lick, or what ever it is, and it is impressing but sounds horrible. That "line" had nothing to do with melody, feeling, swing or anything other than showing off, and that is also why playing faster doesn't equal playing tasty or good for that matter

    • @inq752
      @inq752 8 років тому +1

      +H0E0M0G14 You just dont understand dissonance-release, which is what jazz is built on.

    • @Holms
      @Holms 8 років тому +1

      H0E0M0G14 what i really hate in jazz is .. when there's no connection between passages/licks/etudes :) those pauses for me is groove killer.. it's just my personal opinion.. classical music fans like these licks at all, i hate licks :) playing fast is difficult, and i think people need to respect this. soloing by connecting multiple arggpeggies into one serie of note is even more difficult.. playing melody around with tons of arrpegios, and making dynamic and progressive solo without any pauses is lifetime to master skill :)
