  • Loved reading the novel and decided to make another drawn video.
My resources were quite limited so I do apologize if I got anything wrong. The translations especially were hard to collate since there were multiple-very different interpretations of such a poetic song. Please bear with me on this one.
The song is sung by Deng Lun, and is part of the OST from “Yin Yang Master: Dream of Eternity (2020)” which is also an adaptation from “The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (2013)”
I got the idea to make this because my sister played this song while I was half-asleep, and groggily thinking about how sad Helian Yi was in Qi Ye, and wouldn’t you know it? The lyrics were spot on!
It was also because there’s barely any content about the novel that very much deserves more traction than it’s gotten over the course of 11 years.
    I hope you liked it!

I love this so much. And tbh, my heart aches for Helian Yi. The one lifetime that he wants Jing Beiyuan, but Jing Beiyuan was scared from his passed lifes that he grew afraid of him. And Helian Yi being unaware of that just makes my heart break a little. I'm glad that Jing Qi gets to find someone else who'd treat him alot better.

@Mirai EVR he got scared from his previous lifes. So much so that he grew afraid of him instead of loving him

@Mirai EVR In his previous life. Helian Yi, which Jing Qi devoted himself to, killed him cause Helian Yi grew afraid of him. Jing Qi waited by the rock for a long long time. Getting reincarnated into multiple things just to be with Helian Yi, but even in thosw life times, Helian Yi still killed him somehow. Eventually, Jing Qi grew fearful of him in a way. So during the story of Qi Ye, he helps Helian Yi get the throne, but afterwards, plans to leave the capital so he can get away from Helian Yi. Along the way, the only one he realized that actually loves him for him was none other than WuXi. WuXi was the only one he could be himself around without feeling like he needs to hide everything.

What an incredible job you did! From how they grew up together, to how they separated.
The way you portrayed Helian Yi crying over the corpse, truly heartbreaking. How tragic it is when you think about it from Helian Yi's perspective, how he is unaware of all the pain he caused Jing Beiyuan in their past lifetimes and he gets to live the one life where Beiyuan didn't seek him as a soulmate. Meanwhile, Beiyuan is finally happy living with the one that he loves, no longer in that awful cycle that, ironically, that same being caused in the past. Everything coming full circle.

@Mirai EVR I really think Jing Beiyuan loves Wu Xi. If you pay close attention to the novel, you can see him staring at him, admiring him and such, but given how terrible it was for him the last time(s) he loved someone, he doesn’t allow himself to feel that way. Jing Beiyuan keeps lying to himself even in what are about to be the last moments of his seventh life, before he gets rescued in the battlefield. On the other hand, JBY often sees Wu Xi as a child, and can a be a bit patronizing to him, as a result of all the lives he had lived and how old he feels. I think a part of him sees himself as an ancient being, until he gets reminded that Wu Xi was also an ancient being. While I feel that the novel could have benefited from having more content exploring their conflict, I think they managed to talk it out in their own way; Wu Xi is very open and blunt, although JBY’s betrayal changed him a bit, and Jing Beiyuan is still a very secretive person who doesn’t allow himself to have these feelings, only wanting to be as hedonistic as possible for most of the novel as a coping mechanism while he orchestrates many awful things for the greater good of an empire.
Helian Yi is not a bad person. We can’t judge a character in his life, the one they’re currently in, by the mistakes they made in their past lives. At the end of the day, the only time he made a conscious choice to hurt Beiyuan was in their first lifetime, the rest were all accidental or merely circumstantial. (I mean, would you even know if the flying bug you squished was your doomed soulmate?). In their seventh life he does his best for JBY, even urging him to take the edict and leave with Wu Xi before the war explodes, because he grew to love him that much. I think he’s a very tragic guy mostly because he lived his life for duty, for the common good, rather than following his heart and leave that life behind, so it is a bit more heartbreaking to think all his friends got that chance and he had to stay.
