    Thank you for your video. I have been struggling with the ALC level and how to adjust it for some time. You explained it in a way that it made sense. I have an older 991 and I was beginning to think I blew the finals on it. After watching your video, I was making contacts from Hawaii to Europe. Not bad for Delaware. 73! :eff, N3GJB

    I noted that your log4om is indicating offline. I was having the same thing happen. I did some testing and log4om and wsjtx were conflicting with rig control. This was solved by using omnirig for CAT. wsjtx and log4om can utilize omnirig for CAT and then both programs work well together. The process for setting it up was 1) download and install omnirig, 2) in log4om setup rig control using omnirig and then set baud, bit parameters, and rts to values for the radio to rig1. Then (3) setup rig control in wsjtx, select omnirig rig1 from the pull down and you are good to go.

    @hamradiotv I just got my general, and the wonderful Ft991a. Had a end fed straight wire, but now have that and a used Hustler 5b vertical. Do plan on FT8. Need to set all up. Have used log40m. Also have been using my nanoVNA to play around with both homemade antennas and some oddball rubber duckies. My only real setback at the time is my pc needs to be newer. I tried setting things up using a windows 7 machine, but not happening! 73, hope to FT8 mode with you sometime as it should be easy as we both are in California.

    Bill-N6EF-Great video. I use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and RPi 4 with both my Yaesu FT-857D and Icom IC-7300. The 857 uses a FTDI-based USB cable and Sabrant USB soundcard. The 7300 plugs directly into a USB port on the Pi. Neither rig require any drivers, it's just plug-and-play. The Pis are built using the Build-A-Pi script from KM4ACK and I've also gotten both Pis working with the HamPi builds. Both builds work great.

    In grid tracker click on the magnifying glass and you will see a picture or info on your contact. Grid tracker also has an alert that gives you the call signs that you have not made contact with.

    The Raspberry Pi is an incredible little computer. Lightweight, low cost, and low power consumption. Use the Build-A-Pi script from KM4ACK which makes it easy to setup. I use one of these on all my radios including the one in my shack.

    Have a look at JTAlert, a companion program that runs along with WSJT-X. It adds a lot of useful features like alerting you to wanted DXCC and STATES etc etc.

    I am planning to get a 991A in a few months.

    I'm considering purchasing one but there is one question I can't seem to get answered. When you store a memory, can you store the RF power output in the memory? So for example, most repeaters I only want to output 5 Watts when transmitting. But if I'm on HF SSB, I probably want to use the full 100 Watts, at least during initial calling. HF FT8 is probably 10 watts or something like that. Given that the rig does not have a dedicated RF knob, it seems like it might be easy to forget to turn the power up and down. I know the radio maxes out at 50 watts on VHF and UHF, but that's still going to be 10 times the power that I want to put out in many cases.

    Did you ever get this working on the Raspberry Pi? I've been trying WSJT-X with my Raspberry Pi 4 using the standard Raspberry Pi Desktop install. However I can't figure out how to get audio from my FT-991A into WSJT-X. None of the drivers that show up when I select input audio seem to work. Either they report an error indicating they don't support the audio required, or they appear to be just silent, i.e., no audio showing up in WSJT-X.

    • @HamRadioTV
      @HamRadioTV  3 роки тому

      I use a total of 8 cables including coax, that are connected to my radio. But, I believe you are asking about cables from the radio to the computer? I use one USB cable. Radios that have a built in sound card and a USB cable port, you will only need one cable.

    • @beefcakefpv7913

      @@mr.mistoffelees7188 There is significant difference In a station able to WAS on ssb vs ft8.
      Over 20db of difference. This is a different award.
      Add automation mod like wsjt-z, I don't think a comparison is close.
      A qso is a qso. Work it. Expect the same merits as much better stations? Weird.
