Been worried about the books and paneling since the containers made an appearance. Much relieved that measures are being taken to protect them. Knew you would but was still very good to see. Marie and Lancelot together are adorable. That wee dog landed in a dream home where he is well loved by everyone. Lovely seeing Andie there. Hope Phillip's parents and all of you had a lovely time together. Best to all.

The reason the panelling is being moved in the first place is to get it out of harms way for when they begin work on the Grand Salon. If the Chapel is finished and the final architect report is finally in, that work should begin at the end of this B&B season. Relax. It's going to be fine.

If you spritz the tablecloth and put it in the dryer for 10 or 15 minutes and place it on the table right away you won’t have to iron them on the table, the heat from the iron cannot be good for the wood of the table…….unless it was rubbed with beeswax or something similar to restore the moisture somewhat.

Books kept in cardboard boxes are not for long term storage, as they hold mousture. Might be an idea to pop silicon bags in each box to help with that. You could put dehumidifing crystals in various parts of the containers you'll be amazed just how much water they collect.

I’ve been a “LaLander” for about a year now and I have come to realize WHY I am a faithful follower.
I love the history of the chateau and the wonderful French people. I relate with you and Philip’s fascination for dinnerware and table dressing. It brings back wonderful memories of my grandmother.
The love all of you have for one another is so admirable. I’m sure that the normal challenges pop up but you are clearly choosing to respect one another so as to protect and secure your relationships.
I am truly edified that you are sharing your good fortune with needy individuals and/or organizations. Your generosity is a reflection of your Christian character.
Finally, the fact that there is a consecrated chapel on your property just blows me away. I was brought up to believe that things like this are a gift from God and given to those so as to help build His kingdom of pure love. Oh how wonderful for all of you! I hope that you and Philip will be married there in the near future.
Your precious love, laughter and hard work are not to be taken lightly. It provides such joy!!! I love checking in every night. I miss y’all on Friday and Saturday but I understand that everyone needs a break sometime.
I’m sending my love from here in Lafayette, Louisiana. USA.

Marie's new tool is an old way to cream butter and sugar for baking. My grandmother had one. She used it with a very heavy stoneware mixing bowl. You add your butter and sugar and keep mixing it around, pressing against the bowl until it's fluffy and creamy. Then you add eggs, flour and whatever ingredients you might need to bake a cake.

The wooden tool is used as a Vegetable Fermentation Tamper - and Cabbage Sauerkraut Pounder. While it's too wide to be used with a chinois strainer (a conicle metal strainer to make soups and gravies) she can use it with round sieves to strain and mash fruits and veggies to get a fine smooth sauce or puree. I would not use it as a meat pounder; just use it for vegetables, herbs, and fruit mashing, straining, and muddling.

The wooden " smashing " implement is not a masher. They have a flat bottom, but in Holland we use these" smashers" to peel new potatoes. You put all the thin skinned potatoes, fresh ones, into a bucket of water and bash between the unpeeled and uncooked/ raw potatoes.
    This rubs off the skin.
    So they are peeled.
However I use it a lot on freshly dug up muddy potatoes and it does bash all the soil and clay off.
    Marion Storer
Dunkeld Scotland ,but the potato bashing knowledge stems from being Dutch, where I lived till I was 20.
Everyone ate loads of potatoes and we always had visitors and potatoes were cleaned in a bucket.
We had huge amounts of it.

Another idea for the containers beside ventilation is putting a roof on them to keep them out direct sunlight and rain.
And given that containers like this stacked >5 high fully loaded you have quite some leeway.

My grandmother put duck eggs under the chickens. When they hatched, she put out a washtub full of water. The ducklings would swim delightedly, while the chicken would frantically attempt to coax them out of the water, as chickens don't swim. My grandmother made pillows, and feather blankets for very cold nights.
