My father and his red Alfetta, my childhood has follow the great sound of bialbero Alfa Romeo 1.8.......in every summer along the Marches bends. A fantastic car ......
Aside from the engine problems identified from the sound of the car in the video by people who I assume are experts or knowledgable. It’s quite refreshing to see that the guy could transmit his passion for cars to his fiancé and that she also participated in the video.
kirbyswarp Stelvio make crossovers fun to drive and stylish. Actually Stelvio is not the first suv in Alfa’s history. If you research it, you will see Alfa has a suv in 1960s.
Forza Alfa Romeo !!!
I typed in "Pino Verde" (which is the name of my father Giuseppe\Pino Verde, he was a singer of Neapolitan folk popular songs, I lost him September 2016 at age 66) to watch for few seconds my father singing just to think of him and this video came up, it says "Alfa Romeo Alfetta:Verde Pino", the title has the name of my father in it but it was obvious was referred to some element in the video; I clicked to watch the Alfa Romeo Alfetta which my father owned when I was a kid back in 1980 bringing many nostalgic melancholic memories; and another curious thing is, the founder of Alfa-Romeo his name was Romeo and if I am not wrong was from the city myself my whole family and my father is from S.Antimo-Naples.
I love Alfa Romeo Alfetta. Dad had quite a few & I learned how to drive with one of the later model Alfetta. The Alfa Romeo 75 (Milano) was a perfect continuation of Alfetta, IMO. Such superb road handling.
philberto78 It does have a problem, as far as I can tell. The Alfetta should have a distinctive-, lean "growl", the Alfa growl. The timing is shot to Hell, here.
Bought my first Alfa in 1967, it was my first car. Many alfas followed, the last being iterations of Alfettas. They were the straw breakers, I got out of Alfas then, I needed cars that would last for years without breakdowns and rust-outs. Audis did the trick for many years, a 2016 Mazda MX5 is in the garage now, a wonderful car.
Nice touch at the end! Almost made up for another pair of driving gloves! I have fond memories of my Alfetta. It was a fantastic car for going sideways in. Everything happened so progressively.
The "Boxer engine" in the Alfetta? Really?! Do you know what a boxer engine is? The "metallic rumble" characteristic of the boxer engine? Really? On which planet? Anyway, that Alfetta has some engine problem: the distribution? It sounds really bad, that "metallic rumble" needs to be fixed.
Bad translation. He talks of alfa Romeo in general. The Alfa boxers were known for their metallic rumble on downshifts and their rasping sound in very high revs.
Bad translation? No. He says it in french. He talks of Alfa Romeo in general?! No. There was only one Alfa Romeo not racing car wth a boxer engine, the Alfasud in 1971 (and her daughter ("33"), and nephews ("145/146"); so you can't say that "In general" the Alfa Romeos have boxer engines. Which means that he really believe that his Alfetta has a boxer engine (sigh!) and that its "metallic rumble" is part of it. He is referring to that metallic rumble. Not to mention that the "... downshifts and ... high revs"is common to many other cars from that period. Somebody sold him a car with engine problem telling him that that rumors are typical frome the Alfa Romeo boxer engine, that's all; and he doesn't know nothing about the Alfa Romeo;, and cars in general, if he is not able to recognize that rumor. "My Know-how"?! Mah...
lmao I really hope he was just talking about the sound of a Twin Spark, which certainly has a characteristic rumble to it. If he thinks his car has a literal boxer engine...grab the pitchforks
I love almost all British and European cars but sometimes tire of seeing classic coupes and sport sedans in red. Ferrari's, Porsche's, BMW's etc to me look better in colors other than the cliche red. But that's not necessarily the case with Alfa's. I think Alfa Romeo's, esp GTV's look spectacular in Rosso Corsa. That being said this awesome Alfa sedan looks beautiful in Verde Pino. The more I learn about Alfa's the more I understand the passion exhibited by the Alfisti (or Alfista?) This video shows that sedans can be as much fun as coupes. And enthusiast's can be just as enthusiastic about sedans as well. Great job Petrolicious!
While this car needs work, the guy knows about what it means to have passion about cars. It isn't about specs, what parts you have or even its 0-60 times, it is about what history you have developed with the time you spend together, that you most fondly remember.
My father had 3 Afetta's. The first 2 were 1.8 and the last one was a 2.0. He was loyal to Alfa and had a 2.0 Gulietta and after that an Alfa 75. After is death my mother drove the Alfa 75 for many years. She bought a Peageot 305 automatic. And my brother and me keep the Alfa 75 for years....... Finely we sold the car and as far as I know the car is still a live.
Nice video as usual but please, tone down the background music when having comments by the owners, french, english, italian whatever language. We can't hear them with the music. Thanks !
Few people know that the Alfetta was designed by a very small team led by Ermanno Cressoni,my old boss.A great gentleman that sadly is not longer with us,but will always be remembered by the people that were fortunate to have worked with him.Caro Arch un saluto.
My dad owned 2 Alfettas 1.8. the earlier model had wooden steering wheel, the later model "fake leather" black 3 years later he bought a second hand Alfetta 2.0 with rectangular headlights. the 1.8 looked much more aggressive with quad round headlamps. Sadly it was not as reliable as Toyota or Honda so toward the latter part of his life, he got rid of his Alfa collections and drove Subaru. But what a sweet memory back then.
Boxer engine? hahaha Great engine sound btw, reminds me of when I left coins in my pockets and shoved the clothes in washing machine. That was a good day
for its category it is was the best car made in 1972 when launched. coming from a family that loved older volvos, but also always had Alfa Romeos and still own an alfetta
So this guy was able to buy several Alfas instead of some "passionless" Peugeot 205, not because he's affluent enough, but thanks to his "developed tastes" and "passion". Cool story.
Perhaps some valves or ignition could be adjusted. But when I remember a Alfetta 1,8 back in the day it was 1978 I think I was ten year old and my dad had a BMW E21 520i in his second hand shop with 130hp. I always admired that deep red Alfetta with the 122hp Engine and that characteristic growl from the transverse exhaust. Somehow with the modification in 1977 the car lost many of its charme for me the square lights and door handles were without any refinement.
How do I get my hands on one of these I'm in the United States when we lived in the Netherlands back in the early '80s we had one of these and as a kid I really enjoy learning how to drive on it it was such a pleasure, when I was 16 years old after I got my license United States I drove the car from the Netherlands to Spain in the summer of 1986 I'm sure that was completely illegal
VRAIMENT SUPERBE CETTE ALFETTA. JE ROULE EN ALFA LA DERNIÈRE GIULIA 180 CV DIESEL 😎😎,MAIS J ENVISAGE UN ACHAT DE CETTE NATURE. JE CHERCHE POUR LE MOMENT. FRANCHEMENT TRÈS BELLE....
I was disappointed to see you select an example of this marque with such an obvious need of engine work. The valve tap alone was horrendous. Sorry, just being honest. Usually love your videos.
That specific model might be my favourite Alfa looks wise. Maybe a bit lower to the ground, but otherwise perfect. A shame the engine sounds horrific, because these Nord engines can sound quite nice with some sport air filters and an ANSA exhaust.
petrolicious seems to be getting too worried about cinematography rather than on car, artsy is good but in every scene you see just trees, shadows, gloves, and the car for like a second. Loud music just too much. Early petrolicious seemed more genuine now it just seems pretentious. I used to get excited for Tuesday to watch each episode, now I just watch them if the car is decent. Car selections are just odd and not in a good way.
Come on, you name the film after the colour of the car but wait until the last scene to show it in sunlight. Every other scene was in shadow with a seemingly high F stop. It was too dark.
Despite music+speech i could clearly hear that engine is not working properly. I know by heart how it's supposed to sound. Oh, and it isn't a boxer btw.
Some ugly jittery drive-by's in this video. I mean the car doesn't move smoothly through those scenes. Please fix, it is nicer to watch without it. I also want to say thank you for the entertaining content every week! Has me hooked!
The Alfetta was the best car in its class when launched in 1972 and retains an exotic air from the platform, front engine rear transaxle and rear inboard discs ( low unsprung weight) with dedion axle and watts linkage, plus torsion bars at the front (low unsprung weight) and rack and pinion steering, improving on every aspect of the older Giulia. Unfortunately the green car in the video is not tuned well at all and should be very smooth and responsive right trhougb the rev range. Also too much music in the video and not enough car sound!
No it is not an Alfa thing. AS others have pointed out, this car desperately needs a valve train overhaul. I had an exact model like this one, they are great cars to drive, but this owner is clueless about the car and other pre 80 Alfas He thinks he is being cool owning a true Italian classic, but has no idea what the history of Alfa is all about
Does indeed sound like that, and no it's not an Alfa thing ;) Sounds more like rattling valvestems or something worse. There must be nicer Alfetta's to be found for Petrolicious..
Alfa have made some very pretty cars but IMO this is not one of them, way too boxy (could've been a generic '70s Datsun/Toyota/Nissan, without the badge). Still, as the French say: _Il faut de tout pour faire un monde_ ...
Uh, whatever. I can't thumbs down the video, but I thumbs down the car. I know folks who drive some terrible shit boxes here in the states, but they absolutely LOVE their car. I couldn't imagine you guys doing a story like that. I guess maybe because it's European and they speak French it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
This couple is nice, and the Alfetta GORGEOUS !..But they are obviously NOT REAL "ALFISTES" !!..Tristant worked only for 3 years for Alfa, between 2017 - 2020, as "commercial adviser" ( or so ) in France. Now he works for Porsche in Canada...!! A REAL "ALFISTE" WOULD NEVER, NEVER HAVE CHANGED, especially after only 3 years !.....this video probably helped his business.
Should have had subtitles at least sorry i dislike. And something is wrong with that car as everyone else said if there isn't then that's bad build quality
I had a ‘77 Verde Pino Alffetta for 5 years from 1990. That car, and especially that colour, is burnt into my soul.
the red alfetta coming on the opposite lane was a great touch!
It was our Best friend's car ! An amazing memories for all of us !
My father and his red Alfetta, my childhood has follow the great sound of bialbero Alfa Romeo 1.8.......in every summer along the Marches bends. A fantastic car ......
i still maintain my fathers alfetta 1.8 pervinca blue
Much better than the covid virus we all are fighting these days
Aside from the engine problems identified from the sound of the car in the video by people who I assume are experts or knowledgable. It’s quite refreshing to see that the guy could transmit his passion for cars to his fiancé and that she also participated in the video.
Dear Alfa Romeo, please bring Alfetta back. You have done such a great job in Giulia and Stelvio.
Onur Mutlu stelvio is garbage as crossovers are inherently missing a chromosome.
for a crossover, the stelvio is one of the best. (imo)
kirbyswarp Stelvio make crossovers fun to drive and stylish. Actually Stelvio is not the first suv in Alfa’s history. If you research it, you will see Alfa has a suv in 1960s.
Onur Mutlu suv is not a crossover. A wagon is infinitly better than a crossover.
Bring the TZ and Canguro back!
Alfa's have always been very special to a lot of people!
It was my first car. Excellent road holding with a high-performance engine compared to other cars at the time. 💕
92% of all Alfa Romeos made since 2008 are still on the road. The rest have made it home sucessfully.
Whatwould Bdo good one. I’m stealing it!

Forza Alfa Romeo !!!
Alfa is two things : Beauty and driving pleasure...
Lancias of that era are even more beautiful.
Pino it's a name but means also Pine tree in Italian, so in this case is reffered to the colour: pine tree (pino) green (verde)

I love Alfa Romeo Alfetta. Dad had quite a few & I learned how to drive with one of the later model Alfetta. The Alfa Romeo 75 (Milano) was a perfect continuation of Alfetta, IMO. Such superb road handling.
In your opinion, does the Alfa in the video have engine problems or do they just sound like that naturally?
philberto78 It does have a problem, as far as I can tell. The Alfetta should have a distinctive-, lean "growl", the Alfa growl. The timing is shot to Hell, here.
Beautiful and legendary car. It needs a lot more respect
Bought my first Alfa in 1967, it was my first car. Many alfas followed, the last being iterations of Alfettas. quando parla del motore boxer è in riferimento all'alfa del suo vicino (non specifica il modello) che gli ha trasmesso la passione per il marchio
lmao I really hope he was just talking about the sound of a Twin Spark, which certainly has a characteristic rumble to it. If he thinks his car has a literal boxer engine...grab the pitchforks
he got triggered .....lol i can sense that . Some Ego's in the comment section need some re-aligment with sheer passion .
Oh Lord, I need an Alfetta in my life
nice to see the same one as mine from nepal in france!
I love almost all British and European cars but sometimes tire of seeing classic coupes and sport sedans in red. Ferrari's, Porsche's, BMW's etc to me look better in colors other than the cliche red. Eric Hakanson one is Alfista, two or more are Alfisti.
Stefano Gabrielli grazie mille Stefano! I guess I had it right the first time although I always get those confused.

Bon choix super voiture.
J'adore alfa ❤
Very nice, good to young people who love classic cars.
Thanks Charles 1 We absolutly love our Alfetta ! And we have also a Coupé Bertone !
Your films are always a real treat
It's running on 3... How does he not feel/hear that?!
Nice video as usual but please, tone down the background music when having comments by the owners, french, english, italian whatever language. We can't hear them with the music. Thanks !

The production quality is, as usual, top notch. What a beautiful car ! 😊
My dad owned 2 Alfettas 1.8. the earlier model had wooden steering wheel, the later model "fake leather" black 3 years later he bought a second hand Alfetta 2.0 with rectangular headlights. the 1.8 looked much more aggressive with quad round headlamps. I have one Colore Marone di Testa Marone, deep chocalate brown . Four yellow headlights and dark green tinted windows. With gold GB wheels
Not sure I get the passion for this car, but that’s fine. They seem to.
Una meraviglia italiana!! ❤❤
That feeling you get for an Alfa, its your buddy, guy
I've had 3 of them in my younger years. Would love to have one again in good condition, but they've become rare and expensive too.
Boxer engine? hahaha Great engine sound btw, reminds me of when I left coins in my pockets and shoved the clothes in washing machine. That was a good day
It was the inline 4 busso twin cam, and the timing of the engine is awful in this video
First time I've ever come across Alfisti, whose dream car and pride and joy is Alfetta Berlina.... :o
really cool little thing
Awesome thanks
It's not the best car ever made (by far), but it is certrainly the most beautiful. Coming from a Volvo enthusiast.
for its category it is was the best car made in 1972 when launched. coming from a family that loved older volvos, but also always had Alfa Romeos and still own an alfetta
Yes it sounds like a bag of nails, but a pretty car. Nice film very good,....
Just pull the motor and rebuilt it along with most likely the transaxle, brakes, suspension, wiring and probably everything else
:D ... so radical...

So this guy was able to buy several Alfas instead of some "passionless" Peugeot 205, not because he's affluent enough, but thanks to his "developed tastes" and "passion". Cool story.
Alfetta forever
Perhaps some valves or ignition could be adjusted. But when I remember a Alfetta 1,8 back in the day it was 1978 I think I was ten year old and my dad had a BMW E21 520i in his second hand shop with 130hp. I always admired that deep red Alfetta with the 122hp Engine and that characteristic growl from the transverse exhaust. Somehow with the modification in 1977 the car lost many of its charme for me the square lights and door handles were without any refinement.
yes the first type 1.8 was a sport car and the square 1977 one was not.
A car used by both the Mafia and the Carabinieri. That's a hell of a resume.
c'est beau
Liked the last shot.
quelle combinaison de voiture et de couleur !
I saw this car on a french magazine : Autoretro.
Have they done other couples interviews?
Veramente bella...👌👍
💗
Love these videos, but... Please sort the tuning out and the Alfetta was a clean-sheet design, sharing little with the Tipo-105 1750.
How do I get my hands on one of these I'm in the United States when we lived in the Netherlands back in the early '80s we had one of these and as a kid I really enjoy learning how to drive on it it was such a pleasure, when I was 16 years old after I got my license United States I drove the car from the Netherlands to Spain in the summer of 1986 I'm sure that was completely illegal

awesome!
I was disappointed to see you select an example of this marque with such an obvious need of engine work. The valve tap alone was horrendous. Sorry, just being honest. Usually love your videos.
Unfortunately you are right... too much valve train noise. Lovely example though.
agree 100% can't believe a guy so passionate about his car would be running it in such condition
What do you expect it’s an Alfa 😂
Warren Francis yes like the vintage $650k one in my brother’s garage, right?
Pain to my poor little ears.
true Alfa Lover 😍😍😍😍
That engine has serious problems. Fix them!
Agree!
Engine could be nicer, but its more likely worn driveshaft which is very common for 116 cars
I can't say I care about the car but nice film.
That specific model might be my favourite Alfa looks wise. Maybe a bit lower to the ground, but otherwise perfect. A shame the engine sounds horrific, because these Nord engines can sound quite nice with some sport air filters and an ANSA exhaust.
audioh0lic yess and exaust sound like a champ and accelerarate better than most...
4k plsssssss

Do a video about the Alfa 75, the last real Alfa of its time :D
have a gtj in the same color!
I like it although I'm not a huge fan of Alfa's. This one looks like a cross between a E28 Bmw and a Datsun 510.
Despite music+speech i could clearly hear that engine is not working properly. I know by heart how it's supposed to sound.
Oh, and it isn't a boxer btw.
Bialbero !
Some ugly jittery drive-by's in this video. I mean the car doesn't move smoothly through those scenes. Please fix, it is nicer to watch without it. I also want to say thank you for the entertaining content every week! Has me hooked!
Alfa Romeo died 34 years ago.
11 dislikes lol
all that envy...
If you don’t like an Alfa then you’re not a true petrolhead
The Alfetta was the best car in its class when launched in 1972 and retains an exotic air from the platform, front engine rear transaxle and rear inboard discs ( low unsprung weight) with dedion axle and watts linkage, plus torsion bars at the front (low unsprung weight) and rack and pinion steering, improving on every aspect of the older Giulia. titanus49 thank you for being one of the numbered true Alfa fans I’m right there with you lol
titanus49 aside knowing Alfa's history or not, the matter is, he has no clue whether his green Alfetta is working properly or not.
Does indeed sound like that, and no it's not an Alfa thing ;) Sounds more like rattling valvestems or something worse. There must be nicer Alfetta's to be found for Petrolicious..
The Alfetta never had a boxer engine, the smaller Alfasud did. Sounds like the music was cranked up to disguise the poor condition of the engine.
Nice movie but terrible engine noise
A wild Ted appears
Alfa have made some very pretty cars but IMO this is not one of them, way too boxy (could've been a generic '70s Datsun/Toyota/Nissan, without the badge).
Still, as the French say: _Il faut de tout pour faire un monde_ ...
Uh, whatever. I can't thumbs down the video, but I thumbs down the car. I know folks who drive some terrible shit boxes here in the states, but they absolutely LOVE their car. I couldn't imagine you guys doing a story like that. I guess maybe because it's European and they speak French it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
Motore boxer?!? L’Alfetta??!?? Ma hai idea di cosa stai guidando..????
This couple is nice, and the Alfetta GORGEOUS !..But they are obviously NOT REAL "ALFISTES" !!..Tristant worked only for 3 years for Alfa, between 2017 - 2020, as "commercial adviser" ( or so ) in France. Now he works for Porsche in Canada...!! A REAL "ALFISTE" WOULD NEVER, NEVER HAVE CHANGED, especially after only 3 years !.....this video probably helped his business.
Please less talk, less music and more car.
Translate non english videos, CC distracts from watching
No engine sound and too much talking... just horrible....
Should have had subtitles at least sorry i dislike. And something is wrong with that car as everyone else said if there isn't then that's bad build quality
