    Tom, you have a great collection. I have a vague memory of a Neal Adams cover of Action Comics from the late 60s. Superman is on trial for manslaughter for killing a guy at a charity boxing event. On the cover is an anguished Superman sitting in the witness stand with a little girl pointing at him and saying YOU KILLED MY DADDY.

    A lot of those covers from the 50's I recognized. I was a huge Superman fan. I bought funny books, as we called them back then, as long as they were a dime or a quarter for the annuals. When the price went up I stopped buying. I think my dad figured since I was no longer buying them that I was all growed up and he tossed my childhood things. How I wish those copies were still in my possession. would sell them so fast your head would spin. Later, I began to read the Turok, Son of Stone, comics. Try and find those now without spending a fortune. Ah well. Nice collection but I( would keep the DC separate from the Marvel. They might revolt and combust.

    Those look great. I'm not a superhero collector myself, but looked at some recent superhero comics yesterday in a used bookstore. I like the covers, but most of them recent publications I don't like the coloring. The skin looks like plastic most of the time, to me anyway, and the colors are much brighter than the old ones. What do you think?

      Modern comics suffer from poor coloring. They use a digital platform and the trend is to use darker tones. It's baffling and stupid. A good example is the dirty yellow on Superman's S. There is no reason for it. Thank you for checking in!

    Forty Boxes! Let me ask you a question Thomas. We both are up in age and when I was growing up, early to mid 60s as a kid and 70s as a teenager, we never used the phrase "comics" we always called them "Funny Books". No matter the subject of the comic, Superman, Batman, Sgt. Rock, Archie, Casper, we called all of them Funny Books. I live in the Deep South and I am wondering did you ever call them funny books? Or is that a regional slang? I'm just curious because when I have a slip of the tongue and say funny books it's like, What? Thanks Thomas. -James

      I'll let Tom speak for himself-I grew up in Greater Boston and I called them.comic books and my mother referred to them as funny books;

      @@dennisbento7440 Okay, Thank you for your answer. I'm glad to hear that your Mom called them Funny Books also. Thanks again. -James

      Hello James! My father and my uncles always called them funny books, I grew up calling them both but eventually reverted to simply comic books by the late sixties. I think it was a generational phrase because the medium was originally intended as "funny" and aimed at children. Thank you so much for checking in!

      And the irony of it all is that the word "comic" means "funny". Thank you Thomas
