      having watched this after about five BBC documentaries on the history of abstract art, I was also aghast. Abstract does *not* mean random. This is a neat, if expensive, craft project, not abstract art.

    What a fun project piece and a heck of a nice guy.... but as myself a professional painter who started in realistic painting and then moved over to creating abstract paintings too.... I will state honestly that a quality abstract painting takes a heck of a lot of thought and time to get it where it looks and feels right. I also kept wanting to tell him, "rule of thirds", lol.

      The title is "How to Create Abstract Art", which is a pretty ambitious already. But the result just isn't compelling or the least bit interesting. Like others have already stated, covering all that paint with white ruined it. I thought he was going to dab it with a plastic bag or newspaper, like spray paint artists do. Nope, just covered it all up with white.

      Wutsinyourcup you can use a blown up ziplock bag or a freezer bag to get a similar effect on a smaller canvas. You don’t press as hard but it moves a little on the paint. Check acrylic pouring with Fiona on UA-cam. She has technique and makes gorgeous 3 -D flowers that way.

    What is art and what is craft.
    For me this is a craft
    He knows what he is doing from the start. No surprises, no challenge
    And also is abstract an idea?
    Or is abstraction the absence on an idea?
    There is nothing abstract in a quote!

    I loved the video.. Its actually given me confindence to try something which i was a bit puzzled about.. Theres alot of good comments on here and also bad, but to me he achieved his goal of showing a simple idea which is in fact really effective, although i do agree with the white comments, i liked the colour more...Someone says down in the comments, " Whats the intention " , well he told you..He was using up old colours he had lying around, haha.. Surely thats what Art is about, it creates a stimulous which in turn makes us comment and pass judgement, whether good or bad..It creates conversation and provokes our thoughts and feelings, and im pretty sure he has achived this by looking at the comments he has recieved.. Well done and keep up the good work.

      Cut your acrylics with elmers glue all ($13 a gallon) 1:1 ration and thin slightly with water. Or use Flotreol ($19 a gallon) 1:1 ratio as well and thinned to desired consistency with water. You'll get WAY more bang for ur buck. Keep in mind the glue all DOES lighten the shade of your color but that's easily remedied by a few drops of a darker paint

      agreed that theres a distinction between art and craft and a lot of artists and non artists forget that.

    Stevan. Thanks for sharing the lovely idea & introduction to easy basic abstract. I loved your art best with out the l letterings To me it was wow. In my enthusiasm i may have ventured into adi g a tint of copper or bronze for some highlights here & there my personal preference ofcourse. Great. Easy idea i will try a hand at a small size for starters. 🙏🙏👍

      Thank you for putting that into words. I have often wondered about these videos that create something "purdy" to go with your couch but have little to do with the act of creation. I guess I shouldn't be looking to UA-cam to help me understand.

    He seems like a real nice person. I like the technique but call me crazy I liked the painting before the lettering and white paint. . I was trying the dutch pour method but for a large panitning this seems better.

    • @CotySchwabe
      @CotySchwabe 6 років тому +8

      Agreed. The white undoes all the work he put into it. If he had done the letters first, then the colors, I think it would have been a much color look. But interesting techique though.
