Melissa - You are soo sweet! I am feeling all the feels, denial/sad/happy/excited for this new stage of life. Our little boy just turned 4 (our little girl is 6) and it feels like the baby stage is over and this still little but now a "big kid" phase has begun. But saying it out loud felt weird for me too! haha

I absolutely love your channel and have been following since the very beginning.
But just a tiny thing - please don’t use the phrase “underage women” and the shorthand “women” to describe the girls married under 18. I am a lawyer working with survivors of sexual abuse, and the use of the word “women” rather than “girl” is really problematic and contributes to perpetuating the myth of choice, agency and victim blaming of the survivors.

It is not always easy though to use the right words. Eg in England until this year (and in Scotland even now) people can marry at 16 with parents' consent (and join the army). Not every country (nor every US state) has a legal age either for age of majority in law or age for marital relations (the latter being age 16 in the UK).

I watched all 3 parts sometime back when it came out. It was interesting. I knew her story but other versions I had heard were not as detailed. For example, I knew she escaped by climbing out a window and running, but I thought that was it and she got free afterwards. Apparently not. I knew she had bought Warren's former home and turned it into a place for people to get help, but there was an awful lot in between those 2 events. I had no idea about them constantly trying to get her to kill herself and threatening to kill her. She raises an interesting point that she thinks Warren used the houses of hiding to hide witnesses to his crimes, like her. She also shared more here about the PTSD symptoms she suffered after leaving and I think this is important because it was help people in the general public to be more aware of what these folks are going through and how much support they need.

Same here. I always thought she was one of the most interesting escapees particularly as she went to Texas so was party to the activities there in the later stages and was a wife of WJ, I saw a few interview with her earlier on and now she seems much more established on the outside. Good luck to her.

I'm amazed how much I can relate to these stories as far as the gaslighting and mind games. I was never FLDS. I was in an independent church but it was abusive and manipulative. Different beliefs to an extent but human nature and controlling individuals don't really have different tactics. Thanks for sharing. I love your channel!

I went to the local LDS Temple open house today. It's a smaller temple. It was nice to see the baptismal font, and the Celestial room. When I was married I never remembered going to the instruction rooms. I'm glad my mom took me. And then afterwards we went to Trader Joes to get stuff for lunch. Nice day. Also, they showed us a video before the tour started. Also, lots of sister missionaries, a few elders. But it seemed like they called in all t he sister missionaries from the area. It was nice they didn't pressure us. Like with an information/visitor's card and stuff, and they did not hand out Books of Mormon. Also, lots of kids, I was not expecting that. I wore a skirt with a sweater because it was cold in the morning. And GPS almost completely goofed us up, we arrived impeccably.

It’s just so sad they are so brainwashed that when the hypocrisy is so blatant and in their face, they still choose to follow him. The man is hiding because what he did was wrong, but even if you don’t think that, he’s taken away anything and everything from the followers, but he’s running around in a red car, going to Disneyland, spending all this money, breaking all the rules that he makes the others live by but somehow he still is a prophet.

Based on everything I’ve seen/read about the FLDS (and that’s everything I can get my hands on) I’m just going to say it: Naomi Jeffs is a lying lier who lies. Her account is corroborated by no one and contradicts many. Notice all the times in that documentary she says “I don’t want to talk about that.” Read Elissa Wall’s book “Stolen Innocence”.

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
To me, this is what Warren, and to a lesser effect Rulon did to ruin the Short Creek community.
While I’m atheist/agnostic so no religion makes sense to me, but this one man rule doctrine allowed for the prophet to abuse their power. Even the Centennial Park community believes in a council. I don’t believe in their religion either & they still have a patriarchal society, but I at least respect that the woman chooses their husband by revelation. And having a council minimizes the likelihood of abuse of power. I’m sure they have their negatives, but it doesn’t seem nearly as disfunctional and abusive. I’m curious how the FLDS could have maintained a decent society if they had a more benevolent prophet that wasn’t also a pedophile. OR was it I inevitable that a power-hungry leader who is corrupted absolutely would have come along, even if it hadn’t been Warren.
These are the things I think about. 😢
