I use do this all the time when I am just "meditating on my guitar", but I have never thought systematically like this about it. Grate video. One more thing that I like to do, it to slide the last or the first note, using my pinky finger between cord changes. I like to slide one hole step, and often I slide very quickly. But you can also slide fast and the hold the taget note for a while, before starting on a new cord.
I watch guitar youtube videos now and then (ok, maybe a lot...) I got more from this one than I get from 99%. Immediately useful. I kind of "know" some of this; the D - Dsus4 - Dsus2 thing is pretty widespread, e.g. But just laying out the accessible color tones for open chords and for basic triads and common shapes is really helpful. Last night when noodling I played with a lot of these and my wife actually said she liked what I was doing and noticed that it was "much more sophisticated" than my usual dreck
I LOVED this video! Thanks, Benny, for always so graciously sharing your secrets! The way you started this for the beginners, then built the content was brilliant! 👍🏻🔥
This is probably the most useful 16 minutes of my life - thank you for a superb lesson! Perhaps next you can discuss adding your thumb to your guitar playing. I only began doing that in recent years and it has greatly expanded my melodies and overall songwriting.😊🎸
Takip edeceğim her zaman emeğine sağlık.
I LOVED this video! 👏🏻 Thanks Benny for always graciously sharing your secrets! The way you started out for a virtual beginner and built your content was brilliant!🔥
Could you make also a video on different rhythms patterns for ch (that’s easy to play and sing on / but brings more dynamics + 1 video on what type of base line could be written for the melody exemples you gave in the video here? I’m in love with all ur content, best songwriting explanations eveeer 🥰
Wow! So cool! Tons of great tips and licks and ideas from this! LOVED the D triads! And the song idea at the end is just brilliant! In the same way as with the D triads on the top 3 strings up the neck, Am can be used by moving from the open 3 strings in G to Am and further up the neck: G - (the 3 open strings in the open G chord) Am - Bm - C Major (with pinky) - D Major (with pinky) - Em - F#m(7b5?) - G - Am - etc.) I THINK that's the right chord progression? 🤣😁Not 100% sure... It can also be used with the G - Am7 (ring finger lifted) and keep the G string in the middle open all the way up the neck, even for the Major chords.
Someone may have pointed this out, but at 9:22 your diagram is showing the Ddim chord (13th and 15th frets) and not the C#dim (which you are playing correctly on the 12th and 14th frets). Not to take away from the great video lesson!
Would be good to see. My fallback is to arpeggiate (a) the first four chords of the song (b) the last four bars of the chorus, or (c) the last four bars of the bridge if there is one

Nice... I knew many of these things but seeing it through the lens of uitilzing the pinky gave me new perspectives. Great inspiring teaching!

Could you do a lesson explaining the picking nod strumming of this?
Great stuff, Benny. That’s an extremely handy trick, particularly for me as I mostly use cowboy chords. Thank you! 🙏
Pun!
@@silverhandle totally unintentional… but glad you put your finger on it. 😁
@@timball8429 you did it again! 😎

Its good to relate things in a new way. While seeing melodies. Chords. Then using the shapes to write!
Fantastic. Greetings from Switzerland
Brilliant lesson!
You Rock! Super helpful tips. You helped unlock some gems for me.
This exactly what I needed for my songwriting! Thank you

I play finger style and that little finger becomes invaluable. 👍

My favourite guitar chord is… the D13 add9 oil change elevated 11 b15 with a sus due date.
Thank dog for pinky fingers.
this is a great lesson, thanks! Can you please do one on creating interesting intros on guitar?

great video!
I forget the names too ! But anyway, lot of thanks !

I have never found a version of the F chord that I could play.
