You just don’t want to accept the truth. You can be part of something that you are not. If you are half white and half black, you can be part white and not white. I know this explanation maybe too complicated for you. Igue festival is Benin, the obi of Agbor is Benin and he has said it himself. Osadebe(Osadebame), Ovia, Okowa, Obaigbena, Ogomudia are all Edo origin names not Igbos.. I know Biafrans and Odua people want to claim what’s not there’s. It’s painful when the people themselves tell you their origin is neither Igbo or Yoruba but Edo(Benin) 😅 this Ika man just named all is villages they all sound Edo to Benin.
Yes Ika speak Igbo that does not make them Igbo. Just the way this interviewer speaks English does not make him an English man. Mumu people

I am not debating with you. I have respect for any young historian. You should be asking the right question: What is their origin, and what is their historical connection with the Benin people. Your questions are too surface. You keep repeating language similarities ,market days, kolanut, etc. Ask deep question. Please, take a lead from your brother in Benin and see how he goes about his interview with people who say they originated from Benin Kingdom. Debate with him in your channel. His name is Mr. Imasuen Izoduwa.. He goes straight to the traditional head of the town. ua-cam.com/video/Cp_9lczye90/v-deo.html

@@edoeugene8749 my brother, the names of the villages and communities in that area indicates that they have Igbo ancestry.
Names such as: Idumuesa,Akumaazi,Umunede,Owa-Oyibu,Abavo, Igbogili,Ute-Ohaeze, Agbor etc,all these are Igbo names showing that they have Igbo ancestry. There is another Agbor in Nnewi Anambra State.
And as a matter fact, they call king Obi which is Igbo word, other communities in Anambra State also call king Obi,such as, Nnewi,Ojoto,Nneobi,Oraifite,Obodo,Nkpor, etc but Bini People call king Ọbá.
There is no need of going to ask the traditional rulers because some of them doesn't know history, being a traditional ruler is not a guarantee that you must know history, being a traditional ruler is one thing knowing history is another.
In addition some traditional rulers like to play politics with matters of ethnicity. That's why you can readily hear the truth from an ordinary person than from a traditional ruler.

Ika is igbo, I’m from ika south anioma delta state, the problem here is that most people fails to understand the difference between language and dialect/tribe, if you go to abia state they have their own dialect same goes for an mbaise man in imo state, same goes for an izza man in enonyi and same goes for an ikwerre man in rivers state, nobody is asking you to throwaway your dialect but try and learn how to speak the centralized igbo language, go to the northern part of Nigeria they’ve found a way of introducing the hausa curriculum into their educational system and also made it compulsory for northers to speak hausa too. Like the saying goes “all igbos are king” na here the wahala pass come because nobody wan gree learn from him brother, everybody dey form I too know. Ohaneze needs to do something about this and unite all igbos from the east to south and even to some northern states I.e benue.

Ika is a mixture of two dialects (Igbo and Benin). While there're elements of Igbo culture and tradition in Ika way of life, we shouldn't neglect the other part of their culture/language (Benin tradition) that's not Igbo because there are Ika people whose lineage are Benin. It becomes bias and unfair to tag a tribe by virtual of some their dialect/culture without considering the other part of their culture that is not Igbo. Even the core Igbo tribes deep down their heart don't acknowledge the Ika people as full-blooded Igbos, so why the pretense here?

If you go to local markets all over Ikaland what they speak is a dialect of Igbo intelligible to over 70m Igbo without interpreter. Ika people answer local names given throughout Igboland. The names of their villages and towns are Igbo. Less than 1% of the migrant bini population of Ikaland cannot change the narrative. All ika traditional rulers from time immemorial had been Obi, until ikechukwu the current one changed it to dien. Is obi bini?

I liked your comment by smashing the like button but I will agree with that the greater Igbo population do not accept Ika people as Igbo, we do but for the fact that some people of Ika do not accept themselves as Igbo but now I have to come to understand why they do so. From what I learnt from the Omu of Anioma and other people from the rivers, is that some originated from Igbo while some migrated from Benin. This is why some will not accept that they are Igbo. How Igbo is Ika? Quoting Uguru (2010/2015)(UNN linguistics professor) verbatim, "Ika phonology differs from that of standard Igbo and other Igbo dialects and that is why the study of Ika has been of major interest to Igbo linguists in recent years.{Williamson (1968) noted earlier that Ika and Ukwani are linguistically different from other Igbo dialects} .Here, we discuss the nasal and nasalised sounds existent in IKa.These include consonants and vowels". Uguru ( 2010) reports that Ika, though not an Edoid language, has all the typical Edoid vowels, even when all do not exist in all the affected languages.Edoid Languages such as Bini, Urhobo, Isoko and Degema have many vowels (seven to ten) ail of which can be nasalised."Ika has nine-vowel system including schwa.Further, Ika has nine nasal vowels; standard Igbo and other dialects of Igbo have no nasal vowels. The existence of many nasalised vowels in Ika confirms our earlier hypothesis that this dialect might be sharing certain features with Edoid languages which tend to have many vowels (Azazi,2005).Ika, like some inland East Igbo dialects also manifests consonantal nasalisation. In the inland East Igbo dialects, there is only progressive assimilation of nasality ( left to right), in Ika there are both progressive and regressive assimilation of this feature, a confirmation that Ika is linguistically different from other Igbo dialects. In 2010, the Holy Bible (New Testament)was translated into Ika. There have been moves to grant Ika a language status,as seen in the assignment of a unique reference code to Ika: the ISO language code to Ika is ISO:639-3 ikk, while that of Igbo is ISO:639--3ibo" (Wikipedia,2004). Further details are contained in the cited published articles below.(Nasal vowels in Ika: Transcription.Journal of West African languages xxxvii2(2010); IKa.Journal of the International Phonetic Association, July 2015, both by J.O Uguru) Comment.Ika only shares vocabulary with Igbo(without Igbo linguistics as noted by professor Uguru above) .Ika has Edoid linguistics,Bini culture,Bini traditions and Bini customs. Ika having close contacts with both Igbo and Edo is reminiscent of the scenario recorded by Google (2023) of loss of 573 indigenous Languages {8 in Nigeria, Wikipedia (2023)} by speakers after embracing dominant languages, thus resulting to contact with non-indigenous Languages.NOTE:Igbo scholars have produced intellectual papers on Ika studies for public guidance. Those who still discuss Ika ignorantly are wasting their time.

NNAA Mehntv ,This interview is contradictory to the attitude of Igbos towards ikas. Recently ,after the appointment of the current CDS ,Gen Irabor ,an Ika man ,the media was awash with his unanimous rejection as an Igbo appointee by Igbos including ohaneze officials.Thier contention is that Irabor is not Igbo name l
Right here in my library is a work on Igbo history by Igbo scholar who ascribed Ominije ancestry of Bini root to Agbor people. is he right?.let us together examine the activities of Ika ancestors. They established Ika communities with sustainable model ( Bini nomenclature inclusive) of Bini organized society consisting of community layout into ogbes and idumus, kingship system made of Bini kingship offices, Bini igue religious festival and common taboos ,etc . This is not East of the Niger community model. While great Nnamdi Azikiwe was addressing Igbo assembly in Aba in 1949 ,he stated that there was no record in African history that any part of Igbo land was conquered by African invaders.Ikas couldn't have been conquered Igbos as insinuated by those who do not have knowledge of history. The question is ,why are ikas not speaking Bini? Historians are aware that language can never tell tribal identity in some cases.Examples are to be discussed subsequently. International Languages services (2022) notes that 573 out of 7000 spoken languages on the planet have become extinct.8 of such tribes that lost their languages were recorded in Nigeria(Wikipedia,2022) These tribes now speak the languages of other tribes as well as answering their names.ILS ( 2022) states that extinction occurs when a dormant language appears on the scene.Dorminant Swahili language, native only to coastal Kenya and Tanzania, and littoral islands, adopted as official language in 1960, is currently spoken in over 13 countries with many of their respective tribal languages at extinction risk due to decreasing number of speakers .Edo indigenes of Akoko Edo area of the state speak Yoruba and also answer Yoruba names .Ika communities posses VERIFIABLE historical evidences including symbols for the identity of the home tribes outside SE from where the ancestors migrated into Ika land. This by extension indicated they spoke non -ika languages which later became extinct before the emergence of ika language. A reminant of the original ancestral language is Oza which is still spoken in parts of Ika --south.In-- the above cases the spoken languages are divorced from the ancestries. Is Ika a dialect of Igbo? According to Uguru(2015)(Igbo prof at UNN) Ika possesses unique linguistics which is distinct from common linguistics of Igbo and it's dialects. Uguru (2015) added that the unique linguistics which is absent in Igbo and it's dialects is reflected in the translation of the Bible into Ika language. Again ,Ika has unique multilingual vocabulary consisting of it's lexicon, words from Igbo,Bini esan, The international linguistic code of Ika is:ISO language code:639- 3 ikk, which is separate from that of Igbo and it's dialects:ISO language code:639-2 ibo( Google,2022).Note that Igbo dialects have the same linguistics and language code with Igbo which conforms with the definition of a dialect of being specific form of a language. on the other hand ,Ika differs from Igbo in linguistics, language code and in part vocabulary content. But both have part common vocabulary , connoting similarity. Please Note that linguistic coding, like botanical nomenclature ,is international practice and has nothing to do with the 'divide and rule'' local politics. When Biafran soldiers occupied Mid West in the wake of the civil war many defenceless Ika civilians were killed in Ika land. Were Igbos East of the Niger killed by the same Biafran soldiers? The expression 'Ika igbo' which is a linguistic misnomer is used for expansionist motive ,The same applies to this exercise.

The first time I entered Agbor, I went to the local markets and even attended church on a Sunday I never needed an interpreter because they speak a dialect of Igbo that 97% similar to other Igbo dialects. Less than 1% of bini escapees from the ruthless Oba who settled in ikaland will not change the narrative, ikaland is Igboland and ika people are Igbo. Igbo didn't deny Gen.
