I miss gapit. A FPV show reunion would be awesome. Just like a quick catch up. I remember you calling into the FPV show and it was hilarious - like way back in the day
Bigfoot Bigfoot. Gapit was great - and he chose great music. I miss 2017 FPV - the pilots, the podcasts, the prices , being able to see other pilots fly. There's good shit now, but I miss the olden days.
A great perspective and it totally makes sense when watching your content that you are telling a story and your target isn't necessarily only other FPV pilots. The only people who care that a pilot is NOT using stabilization is other FPV pilots. Specifically freestyle pilots. Literally no one else gives a shit and even most freestyle pilots could care less. I, on the other hand, give a huge shit. I straight up judge pilots on their ability to tune and fly a drone. It's not in a negative way, though. It's more because the pilots that have clearly spent time on learning to tune their quad well and fly incredibly smooth impress me because it's something I have strived so hard to achieve myself. It goes into the "flow" category of judging, at least for me. A pilot's "flow" is something that makes certain freestyle pilots stand out over others, imo. Pablo Flor, Aux Plume, and Vanover are great examples and their dedication and talent should be respected. Ultimately, people should have fun. If min/maxing, tryhard makes you happy, go for it. If just getting in the air and recording your footage with stabilization makes you happy then fuck what I or anyone else thinks.
Great video. I have felt this way forever. The hate on stabilization is stupid. You made a creative video, and it makes a grear argument. The commentary speaks to the moment. Well done. Thank you.
Nice💥I lean the opposite way...the camera is just set and forget, then I don't think of the footage until I review it later. What I like, is capturing and sharing the pure experience...but I love that you and others tell the story 💯🙌
This had me cracking up! So happy for you! Who knew someone could land all those crazy sponsors! ✌️😎 a battery strap works great for your goggle’s battery.
Probably also depends a lot on what the end video is for. If it’s just for FPV then probably don’t need it. If it’s for commercial use then might be worth stabilizing
A wise man once said " Use the best camera you have to your disposal" - Me. Ive been flying Fpv for over 10 years and I only use stab when the the only tools I have is a shitty 3'Whoop so when its stab it looks way better you would get sick watching it. Also my 5" Apex with fresh tune and props needs no stab because it flys so smooth. Great Video !!!!
Nice video. The opening bit gave me a good laugh. Some people place way too much importance on the stab/no stab thing. If they want to make a video, just give the viewer a reason to watch it.
Very good video Grim! I guess it depends on the person. I don't like stabilizing my fpv freestyle footage. I never turn on stabilization in the camera nor I post-process my videos with tools like gyroflow. In my opinion, stabilized video makes me think that I'm a very good pilot. But in reality, I know how crappy the unstabilized video looks like. Unfortunately, we can't enforced people to not activate stabilization. They are happy with that and that's ok. I can tell though that there are stabilized scenes that looks extremely weird(zooming in real close, and out). I only stabilized my videos when I use my 7-inch quad, like cruising over a big land of trees, gardens, or cruising down mountains.
thank you for this XD cant stand people complaining about this, especially when the goal is to show fpv for non-fpv people, and also to focus on the spot/scenery
I love the idea that 50$ is getting handed off between grim, botgrinder, webleedfpv, etc each month. Its like friends who give money for birthdays, so they just pass it around all year xD
Great video! I'll tag a video with #nostab whenever I manage to get a really good smooth session without stabilization turned on. I'm mainly focused on freestyle tricks right now so I leave it turned off. I do use stabilization if I'm going for a cinematic look. I'll use Gyroflow when I do. I'm not a huge fan of the dynamic zoom effect from Gyroflow. I think it looks better if it's locked in , but not too much that it looks like you're staring down a zoom lens. ✌
ahh, to stabilize or not to stabilize. That seems to be the question. I agree with you 100%, do whatever the F you want!!! lol But ya, if you're making videos and posting them, you prob want to make the best videos you can, so once again we return - full circle - to the answer; do what ever you want!! FTW!!
Veryyyy nice Vid as always! It's True: Freestyle with stab looks actually a lot worse. Nostab is the way to go there 🙏 Key for comfy freestyle is anyway a prop and Kwad that is flying great and snappy. Why would anyone use stabilisation for freestyle or racing footage 😂😂😂😮 But for cinematic I do stabilize 100% of the footage. Since all those drones pretty much suck in smoothness. Being able to slap a huge battery on there is more important than CG or efficiency rather than snappy response time.
@2:07 STABALIZED. I think the gopro is a bad example of stabilized vs non stabilized, because it has some dampening or kinetic isolation (software or hardware). I did some tests where I took a piece of plastic, taped it JUST out of view, and shook the camera, Upon shaking I could see the plastic appear and disappear. All stab off. Whether this is software or hardware, I do not know. Take a runcam thumb pro and compare the two, youll see a much bigger difference. IMO. With an Action 2 its also very noticeable between stab and nostab. Still a great cam. I get the appeal of both. Until recently, ive used gyroflow on all my footage as low as possible (0.01 most times), but I was tired of the crop and the floaty look. Once you get your quad locked in on a tune, you don't even need it anymore unless you're stick inputs are jerky/on meth.
I run stab on my GP with the thought that it’s a bit easier to watch for my Dbag friends that don’t fly. I’m kidding myself though, they don’t watch it anyway.
Nice video with the comparison shots! Which GoPro model are you using? I have a GoPro Hero 5 Black, and I don't usually use the Image Stabilization on the camera. So when i do stabilize video off the Gopro, basically when i use for it other things besides the drone, i'll use Gyroflow. Apparently Reelsteady is only free if you buy a newer GoPro again, but i still have the Hero5 going lol and its like $100 or something stupid when a new go pro 10 isnt much more at that point I didn't put it on the drone in the beginning, so i wouldnt crash one day and destroy it. I do now so we'll see how long lol.. BUT now im thinking like i thought the GoPro had a good internal EIS, but its not doing much... I also think its not so obvious whether its on/off, bc youre just a good drone pilot and super smooth either way lol..
All the footage in this video was shot on a hero 11. I also just got a 12. The 11 is nice because you can shoot in 8:7 which makes cropping in portrait and landscape look way better. If you buy a GoPro for a drone always get some sort of protection plan, I do this through Best Buy and have basically bought one GoPro and turned it into 8 GoPros through insurance claims
@@grimripperrr Nice! Thats a good idea actually about the protection plan, ive gotten it for some stuff i bought from Best Buy in the past and theyre good with the insurance claims if something happens
I think the trick for me as a "cinematic freestyle pilot" or "stunt pilot", it's about finding that balance. For sure if the footage is intended to be from the pilot's perspective, stabilisation hardly ever makes sense. But like you say if the goal is cinematic or commercial footage, good luck with not needing stabilisation!
i stabilize it if it needs it otherwise i dont bother i like it when you see the corners in the footage what i really dont like is if some reviewer is reviewing a quad and all you see is stabilized footage of it (looking at the avata 2 reviewers here)
I don't use stability at all. I'm using a session 5 anyways lol. Going back from the hero 10, less weight and it don't fk up on you when you bash it. I also like to make my edit to music and the vibe of the day. Good video dude 👊👊👊
I love the creative spelling of "stabilize". I guess "stabalize" is an FPV thing... right? 🙂 Then I see in the video description you refer to "satablize" which must be a proprietary GoPro thing... right? Yours sincerely, the spelling police.
I fly stable so I don't make folks sick! 🤢🤮🤣😂 But honestly, I love the theory of "you can fly the camera or you fly the quad." Very clever. Great content as always!
@@volitronics yeah I only do it because I want my videos to reach outside of the FPV community. I love that we support each other but let's be honest, you've seen one video, you've seen them all. 🤣😂
