Great job done once again John. Yes, I have learnt something from watching your video, bring my problems to you to sort out. lol. What I like is how thorough you are with what you do. Good stuff. Top job! 😁👍
😂😂 Thanks, To be fair I like sharing knowledge, I tend to watch videos on random things I don't understand, eventually after watching a few I eventually get it.
Brilliant video, I’ve just replaced the heating element in my dometic fridge thanks to your video, the cylinder is getting hot now but for some reason the fridge still isn’t getting cold?
Thanks for watching, sorry for the late reply not sure why YT didn't alert us to your comment sooner. Im sure you have probably fixed this by now but if heating element is now heating the refrigerant circuit and there is still no cooling output inside fridge after 1-2 hours then it is likely the refrigerant circuit needs replacing, sometimes its easier to replace the whole fridge.
Thanks Jon, fascinating stuff and so interesting, even better I now know how the fridge works and haven’t lost any skin off my fingers or knackered my back! How come you didn’t get an invite to Germany? All the best Paul.
Glad you enjoyed it, To be fair the habitation side of the motorhomes is much easier than the mechanical/vehicle side. I would of liked to have gone to Germany as the Eco Flow products look really interesting but unfortunately someone had to stay behind to look after the cats, and Tash was working for Darran anyway helping with the filming of the event.
Great explanation Jon. We were away at a dog show and the fridge was on gas. We woke up the next morning and the outside of the van was black. Fortunately we spotted another van being towed by a mobile caravan engineer and he came and did what you did and explained/cleaned out the chimney as soot had formed then fallen down and partially blocked the burner making it smoke badly. Is it a matter of course for this to be checked as part of an annual service?
Thanks M8, Yes, part of a habitation service (from an AWS, MCEA, gas safe trained engineer) is to carry out a flue emissions analysis of all gas burning devices where the flame is enclosed and cannot be seen easily so this should pick up early signs of High emissions from those devices, only issue is a partially blocked gas jet can happen at any time for various reasons, best advice I can give is always keep an eye out where the flue gases exit the vehicle for any signs of soot or discolouration, and fit a good quality carbon monoxide alarm inside your habitation area.
Oh my Lord, where are you based? I need your expertise. I've just bought exactly the same van (2011) and the fridge freezer is not working. After 24hrs the freezer had only half frozen a bottle of water and the fridge is not working at all. I also had no idea they work best on gas. Great vlog....thank you.
Thanks for watching and commenting, We are based in Shropshire at the moment. It is worth checking that the winter covers have not been left on (as these restrict air flow to the back of the fridge), if you have the same Thetford fridge they are large solid rectangular pieces of white plastic inside/behind the fridge vents on the outside of the van, if you look up through the vents you should be able to see them, if you can't see anything then they are not fitted which is correct for this time of year. However, if the fridge/freezer works fine on gas then it is likely to be a poorly working heating element.
Thanks for watching and commenting. No, it has two heating elements one behind the other so quite difficult to get in the shot with the GoPro, 6:00 minutes into the video if you pause it you can see the blue coloured cables which are for the 12volt element and the black cables are for the 230volt element. Sorry it wasn't so clear in the video.
@@lifebeyondbricks thanks, honestly really good information from these videos, it's obvious you know what you're doing and take a pride in your work. :)
As a newbie we didn’t get to see How to disconnect from the gas pipe outside nor actually Where the heating element sits as his head is in the way or it’s speeded up 🤷♀️ Need idiot guide 🙄😬🤦♀️😉
Ah sorry, The gas pipe is accessed from behind the fridge vents outside the van on this fridge. behind the lower gas vent is the 17mm nut which releases the pipe (obviously make sure the main gas bottle is disconnected from the van before releasing it) The 240Volt heating element for the fridge is located in the Aluminium cylinder on the right hand side of the back of the fridge, 12volt and 240volt heating elements are situated next to each other.
Very interesting , good to see someone who really cares about doing a good job , 👍
Ah thank you, As my old man used to say "if a jobs worth doing, its worth doing right!"
Excellent job as usual Jon, really enjoy these type of videos.
Cheers Terry, Glad you like them!
Well done john always good to see how things are been fixed right
Ah Thanks 😜

Thanks John these videos are invaluable for us as we prepare for full time living, as I like to know all the possible pitfalls, cheers
Glad you like them, Happy to help.
Great to meet you two today at SAP.
It was great having you as neighbours! What a small world, really enjoyed the day with you guys, hope to see you around again 😄
Bloody hell John that fridge looked heavy, think i would have conscripted Finn to help with the removal. Cheers K.
😂 Yeah I should of really, the tall fridges are a bit on the weighty side.
Spot on Jon 👍🏼
Thanks.
Absolutely fascinating 😉👍 love it 👍 ... 😘🤗❤️👵🏼🐾🐾🐾🤠 xxxx
Glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Thank you for your video, only my domectic is not working properly
Can you help
Thanks, the process of removing and refitting the fridge is pretty much the same on the Dometic fridge. What seems to be the issue with your fridge?

Thanks, interesting. So I'm guessing the single element does 230v and 12v?

So my fridge gets really cold on Gas but on Hook up its not as cold so could this be the same issue? Nice vlog
Yes, it is most probably a partially defective heating element so it is not applying enough heat into the chemical circuit.
Hi whats the cost to have this done please im in Shropshire
Hi, we have left Shropshire now unfortunately but it would be approx £400 for a repair such as this with an AWS approved workshop.
