Hi, I’m Yousur Al-Hlou and I produced this visual investigation along with my colleagues Masha Froliak, Dmitriy Khavin, Christoph Koettl, Haley Willis, Alexander Cardia, Natalie Reneau and Malachy Browne. I’ll never forget the reporting trips Masha and I made to Bucha, Ukraine, in early April: we witnessed bodies, some with arms bound behind their backs, strewn along a single street in this town on the outskirts of Kyiv. We decided to investigate who killed them. Eight months later, we know. Using exclusive phone records, documents, interviews and thousands of hours of video, we proved how a single paratrooper military unit, the 234th Air Assault Regiment, killed dozens of Ukrainians on Yablunska Street.

Iryna Filkina (the woman on the bicycle) was also identified by the manicurist who had painted her nails just before the invasion in a viral Reuters photograph of a body with immaculately painted red nails and a heart painted on the ring fingernail. Iryna had just recently taken a makeup class in part to focus on herself after spending the past three decades raising her two daughters. She also requested a cherry red manicure for Valentine's Day, drawing “a heart on her finger because she started to love herself,” according to the artist that taught the class. Iryna's daughter had begged her to leave Bucha, saying it was not safe. Iryna responded, "Don’t you know your mom? I can move mountains!" That was the last conversation her daughter had with her before she was murdered.

I escaped from Bucha on 4th of March at 9 am along Vodoprovidna, Yablunska and Vokzalna streets. We heard shooting and drove near the shooted black car on the cross of Yablunska and Vokzalna streets. I still remember this noise and the view. I remember my thoughts “am I next who would be killed?”. I watched this investigation video and can say thank all the editor team to make the entire world to know the truth and make all who are guilty to be judged forever. Hard memories

@@zetristan4525 my friend from childhood was found in a mass grave on the outskirts of Bucha. His hands were tied and he had a lot shots in different part of the body. Awful and terrifying. His name is Arthur Rudeko. He was around 27 y.o.

We have to know that Bucha is only media-popular accident. There are countless russian war crimes across all frontline and occupied territories. Democratic society have to know, that their money help ukrainian civilians and soldiers to survive. You are saving our lives and we are thankful for it!
Ukrainians have also been credibly accused of torturing and executing POWs as well as placing military equipment in civilian areas. The news is quick to highlight Russian crimes while excusing or just bot reporting Ukrainian crimes.

It is one thing to know such killings took place, hearing and reading about it. To know that through history, things like this were common. But to see it, the muzzle flash caught on CCTV and then residents taking pictures of the aftermath. The shoddy attempt at a coverup, the attempt to stay anonymous through the covering of the unit's ID. To give names, ages and even pictures to both the victims and the perpetrators. I cannot even begin to express the horror of this all, was sick to my stomach just watching. And I know that this is just one unit, in one town and there are likely hundreds of similar stories, but that doesn't mean that this story should be kept quiet.

If you make an effort to hide your identity by painting over your identification numbers and also by taking down camera's, but then being dumb enough to make calls with the phones of the guys you have just killed you are not only a monster, but also an incredibly stupid one.

This is not an average town street. Bucha is a suburban town next to the capital Kyiv, and is above average in terms of its prosperity, comparing to other places in Ukraine.

It is unbelievable because it is ridiculous propaganda. No time or date stamps on videos or photos. No signs of bloating or composition of bodies which have allegedly lay there for weeks. Eyewitness testimony from people in a town occupied by the Kiev junta who would face repercussions if they did not say what they were told to say. That guy who managed to zip around town taking photos of the victims takes the biscuit. He has the photos on his phone yet there is no metadata shown or even a view of the images in his gallery, which would show the date. This really is uncompelling propaganda and it is sad that anyone actually takes it seriously. It is clear by the evidence provided in this very documentary that the Kiev junta were responsible for ending the lives of the freshly killed corpses shown.

Hello! I am a journalist, I lived in Bucha. 30 percent of the frames of the chronicle shown in the film were shot against the backdrop of my burned-out car, which was shot on the morning of March 4th. There were three of us, we escaped, although the girl in the passenger seat received 9 bullets in the stomach. We were shot from machine guns and then they hit my car with a grenade launcher. We miraculously escaped. I will be very grateful if you tell? where you can find the footage from the cameras for March 4. I will send a photo of my car, license plates, a photo of the car when it was found after deoccupation. Documents for the car. We were supposed to be the first to be killed on Yablunskaya, but we miraculously managed to escape.

A great piece of investigation. I worked in Kosovo 1999 before and after the conflict. You did a very important investigation and documentation of these crimes. The perpetrators should be pursued until caught! Justice for the victims - never forget!

My father's friend, she's from Moscow. Her sister lived in Bucha. She went missing soon after the invasion. She never knew what happened to her to this day.
Video "counter strike in real life" (as it was called "posted" on vimeo) a detachment of Ukrainian "kindnesswill" explores a private area, one of the fighters became interested in an outdoor toilet. Without making sure who was in it (whether there was a civilian or even worse child in it), he fired 10 bullets 7.62 into the closed door from the toilet, raising clouds of dust, a person fell out (or bullets raised the dust). 2 more members of the group joined the shooter, firing 30 to 40 bullets in total, as before, at no one knows whom.

What is happening is a disgustingly artisanal conflict, but the worst thing is how, under pressure (threat, social, financial reprisal), they cover it with pictures of terrible events that they themselves initiated.

Tears in my eyes as my heart sank when the victims in blue van were listed, no words but tears and incredibly hard to watch... This visual was well put together to help the Ukrainians claim justice on behalf of their innocents, great work and thank you on behalf of the Ukrainians and the human race at large.

Thank you for investigation. Those horrors must be told and murderers must be punished. My city not far from Bucha and we were not occupied because of heroism of Ukrainian soldiers. The original video shows the town under heavy shelling as the bicycle man is seen. The coroners that did the autopsy on the bodies found they died from flechette wounds. Flechettes are artillery shrapnel that look like small arrows. The day after the russians left, the mayor of the town entered the town along with police, and patrolled the town. They found nothing, as he himself wrote on his twitter. A day later, a ukrainian neo-natzee called Boatman entered the town. He said in his social media "there is nothing to do". No mention of bodies. Later that day he posted a video, where one of his men asks if they should shoot anyone without blue armbands (blue or yellow are the colors the UAF uses, Russia uses white or red). Boatman responds : "Yes!", and shots are heard. The day after the story about bodies is aired. Two days had passed since the russians left, and only now is the story breaking. Most bodies had white armbands, signifying they were pro.russian. And Ukraine is famous for executing "collaborators". You do the math. Not that i care anymore...

Without making sure who was in it (whether there was a civilian or even worse child in it), he fired 10 bullets ak into the closed door from the toilet, raising clouds of dust, a person fell out (or bullets raised the dust). 2 more members of the group joined the shooter, firing 30 to 40 bullets in total, as before, at no one knows whom.

I escaped from Bucha on 4th of March at 9 am along Vodoprovidna, Yablunska and Vokzalna streets. We heard shooting and drove near the shooted black car on the cross of Yablunska and Vokzalna streets. I still remember this noise and the view. I remember my thoughts “am I next who would be killed?”.
I watched this investigation video and can say thank all the editor team to make the entire world to know the truth and make all who are guilty to be judged forever.

It is one thing to know such killings took place, hearing and reading about it. To know that through history, things like this were common. But to see it, the muzzle flash caught on CCTV and then residents taking pictures of the aftermath. The shoddy attempt at a coverup, the attempt to stay anonymous through the covering of the unit's ID. To give names, ages and even pictures to both the victims and the perpetrators. I cannot even begin to express the horror of this all, was sick to my stomach just watching. And I know that this is just one unit, in one town and there are likely hundreds of similar stories, but that doesn't mean that this story should be kept quiet.
What surprised me was the young age of the soldiers.

It is unbelievable because it is ridiculous propaganda. No time or date stamps on videos or photos. No signs of bloating or composition of bodies which have allegedly lay there for weeks. Eyewitness testimony from people in a town occupied by the Kiev junta who would face repercussions if they did not say what they were told to say. That guy who managed to zip around town taking photos of the victims takes the biscuit. He has the photos on his phone yet there is no metadata shown or even a view of the images in his gallery, which would show the date.
This really is uncompelling propaganda and it is sad that anyone actually takes it seriously. It is clear by the evidence provided in this very documentary that the Kiev junta were responsible for ending the lives of the freshly killed corpses shown.

I am a journalist, I lived in Bucha. 30 percent of the frames of the chronicle shown in the film were shot against the backdrop of my burned-out car, which was shot on the morning of March 4th. There were three of us, we escaped, although the girl in the passenger seat received 9 bullets in the stomach. We were shot from machine guns and then they hit my car with a grenade launcher. We miraculously escaped. I will be very grateful if you tell? where you can find the footage from the cameras for March 4. I will send a photo of my car, license plates, a photo of the car when it was found after deoccupation. Documents for the car. We were supposed to be the first to be killed on Yablunskaya, but we miraculously managed to escape.

Without making sure who was in it (whether there was a civilian or even worse child in it), he fired 10 bullets 7.62 into the closed door from the toilet, raising clouds of dust, a person fell out (or bullets raised the dust). 2 more members of the group joined the shooter, firing 30 to 40 bullets in total, as before, at no one knows whom.

It´s all BS. Don´t ever wonder why they have white armbands? Bucha was under heavy bombardment from the UAF. The very video that CNN aired, where the bicycle man is shown was cropped to zoom in. The original video shows the town under heavy shelling as the bicycle man is seen. The coroners that did the autopsy on the bodies found they died from flechette wounds. Flechettes are artillery shrapnel that look like small arrows. The day after the russians left, the mayor of the town entered the town along with police, and patrolled the town. They found nothing, as he himself wrote on his twitter. A day later, a ukrainian neo-natzee called Boatman entered the town. He said in his social media "there is nothing to do". No mention of bodies. Later that day he posted a video, where one of his men asks if they should shoot anyone without blue armbands (blue or yellow are the colors the UAF uses, Russia uses white or red). Boatman responds : "Yes!", and shots are heard. The day after the story about bodies is aired. Two days had passed since the russians left, and only now is the story breaking. Most bodies had white armbands, signifying they were pro.russian. And Ukraine is famous for executing "collaborators". You do the math. Not that i care anymore...

It's crazy to think that even as terrible as this attack is, it's small fry compared to most wars historically.
