KTM 790 Duke - Black Widow decat + exhaust (updated description)

- Cold start of the Black Widow exhaust on a 2019 KTM 790 Duke. This is with the "db killer" installed. It's VERY loud. All the db killer does is take the edge off. I didn't want to rev it much because I like my neighbors. Video does not do it justice. Nice and deep when idling, screams like a banshee when on the boil.

One thing I've noticed since the install is the engine running hotter than normal. Temp gauge stays at 4 bars (saw it hit 5 one time while stopped at a traffic light in when it was already 98F outside). I can feel the heat just rolling off the motor when sitting and idling. I believe this to be because the air/fuel ratio is even leaner now than stock, which was already too lean for this bike.
Decided that a Booster Plug will fix this. I don't want to get into an ATOM or PCV, modifying/removing o2 sensors, any of that. All I want to do is richen up the A/F a little bit and that's all the booster plug does (by 6%). I've got a thread over on 790dukeforum.com if anyone wants to follow along: www.790dukefor...

I am not affiliated with Black Widow or Booster Plug.

Hey! I work at a KTM shop in Sweden, and just wanted to tell you that there is an alternative MAP for the Duke´s. The Akrapovic Race tune. Its an original tune that any KTM Dealer should be able to put in to your bike to fix the lean mix. And its way better to do that rather then temper with any other "third party parts" and its also probably cheaper to! I would guess around 100£ :)
I have recently put the map in to my 2020 duke 790, But i haven't changed the exhaust yet haha. That is why im here!
That's interesting! I called my local dealership and they told me they didn't know anything about it. But they just recently stopped selling KTM so maybe that's why.
Wait you can get the tune without buying the system?
@@mrskitz338 yeah you can 👍 you just have to go to an authorized KTM dealer and they can put it in for you 😃
Just did it after I decatted and put a Remus Hypercon on my 2021 KTM 890. They were happy to do it but said the mapping may not 100% be compatible... Still pops and cracks from time to time, but I think it was the right thing to do. Probably running a bit rich but my god it sounds like an angry Dragon.
@@baverhojtit’s not just the map though I found this out with my duke 690 the air box and two electric components come with the Akro kit and to do it properly you need the map and the 2 mod bits that come with the official Akro decat kit. It suddenly makes it a lot more expensive
Nice bike, but I would remove the silencer or dB killer in the exhaust. It would make it sound amazing. But nice vid and bike 👊🏻🔥
Thanks @Noxus! I'll get some better videos up when it quits raining but that video doesn't really do a good job of showing how loud it is with the db killer in (filmed from my phone). It's so loud.
They are back in Australia 👍
The fkn clarify 😮
Hello
The exhaust sounds great, is this the 200mm or 230mm? Thanks
230
@@fabi8657 thanks
Are you in USA ? I like your fender delete.
Can you use the rear peg with this exhaust system?
Sure can. I already had mine removed but the instructions that came with the kit assumes the pegs are still installed.
@@zomgftwable great! Thanks for the quick reply. I just ordered mine!
Happy to help!
Hello there, did you remap the bike after fitting exhaust, I know Black Widow website states no remap needed, but wouldn't that make run really lean and loose power? let me know, thanks!
Hey man. It did run lean and a little hot. I ordered the Booster Plug and that fixed it right up.
thanks for replying man!!! didn't know about booster plug, gonna look it up!!! all the best!!!
@@zomgftwable what is this booster plug you speak of and where can I find one?
where’s the link to the exhaust
