My first CFL game was in 1969 at the old civic stadium in Hamilton I've been a die hard Tiger cat fan ever since . The history of the league is just as legendary as the NFL's . My recommendation to anyone in the football world is to attend the traditional labor day game in Hamilton between Hamilton and Toronto it's an unforgettable experience !
could you imagine how bad ass that would have been if it worked out in the cities. Now we have a chance at seeing a merger with the XFL so who knows, its not gonna be as bad as the 90's expansion, but exciting.
Baltimore actually had good crowds and they were genuine fans ! They were a little bitter with nfl as well especially the colts left that was a very good football team!
Technically, one was "Rough Riders" while the other was "Roughriders" (two words vs one). The quirk of two teams with essentially identical nicknames happened because they originally played in separate regional leagues which ended up merging to form a national league.
Immediately after this Grey Cup, the Baltimore Stallions were recommissioned as the Montreal Alouettes, and the other American CFL teams folded. The Grey Cup has been truly Canadian ever since.
I used to be a huge fan of this game. Played it lived it loved it. But now it is I can't even watch a game. It is terrible football. 3rd and 4th rate players. Crummy coaches, And the gameplay is so terrible it's actually a laugh.. American high school football is more exciting.. We do not get any star players of any consequence to come and play in this league anymore.

Ironically enough, Baltimore was supposed to host the Grey Cup in the US in 1997 at Memorial Stadium.

Two teams named Roughriders?
Yes

@@gordonwhitney6052 The expansion team in Ottawa is named the Red Blacks due to an uproar from the Saskatchewan team.

But our name remains on the trophy.
Lot of rechords broken. Oh Canada 🇨🇦
Why did the CFL experiment with USA based franchises?
Money. CFL was on the brink of bankruptcy. New teams paid money that saved CFL (and NFL helped a bit later in the second half of 90s).
(The) Earl Grey; not Lord Earl Grey.
Shreveport Pirates were good 👍
