I was a huuuuuuge DeBarge fan back in the 80’s! I read all three books by Tommy, Bunny, and their mom. The pain that this family endured was horrific and telling of what mental, verbal, sexual, and physical abuse can do to a family. They could have been the biggest stars in the world but the psychological ramifications of their past greatly hindered their success...😔

Mama DeBarge is responsible. Her insecurity. Her cultural self-hatred. Her unapologetic return to the monster who abused her children in the worst way. It amazes me that her remaining offspring forgive her ... I don't have ANY respect for this woman. None at all.

This movie will result in a cult classic. It will take time but it is a character-driven piece that is well-acted, despite the fact that there may not have been a lot of money for wigs and whatnot. That is not important because an important story was told.

Quad throw that wig away the color and style is a NO. Adrian Marcel finally did something about that acne. He looks younger. Bobby Debarge was confirmed to be bisexual by his brother I wonder if they will touch on that. Rochon is horribly miscast he looks nothing like Bobby. If we are going on look Adrian looks a lot more like Bobby than him. Rochon comes off a bit cocky it seems? Maybe I am reading his energy wrong. Maybe not. I will watch and support tho!
So Bobby debarge was part Asian.
Roshon is half Asian but look completely Asian. You could never look at him and tell that his father is black. That being said I have no clue why he was cast in this movie AT ALL.
Hopefully this will be a GREAT success for Roshon
I loved the acting, but not so much as the look. Sometimes you just have to wait like when making the movie Ray with Jamie Foxx , made me think I was watching the real Ray Charles. Even Bohemian Rhapsody which all of them looked like replicas of Queen. Bobby Debarge was handsome and tall, with beautiful hair the actor did not make me believe it was him. Don't get me started on El Debarge, who is my favorite. I think they should have held off and got a cast that really complimented the Debarge family and really made something that could stand out, even if it could have went to Netflix like the movie When they see us.
The most surprising thing I found out about Bobby Debarge, was after watching unsung finding out he was bisexual. They never answered the question.
I was also surprised when I originally heard that but that was years ago. 1994 I think. By the time it was on the Unsung/Switch episode I wasn't shocked. Just saddend.
Yeah. Probably had a lot of confusion going on from what his dad did to him as a child. Sometimes being sexually abused by someone of the same sex can result in seeking out similar experiences later in life. Or maybe he was just naturally bisexual. Sounds like he didn't love himself very much in any case. It's a shame he died so young.

Jesus will Judge, as well as he could’ve got the HIV virus from using and sharing bad needles. I think his excessive drug use resulted him in getting full blown Aids which lead to his death. 😢 Either way, I pray that he made his peace with God.

I read awhile back that TV One was planning a miniseries based on the DeBarge family. Same for Xscape. It kinda looks cheesy, but I will be tuning in to see his story. He won me over as Isaiah in _Greenleaf_ and he was devilish and evil. I'll be watching in two weeks.
I hope they do a mini seri about the Dabarge this will be a very interesting show...

Not sure how acurate this will be. I've never seen Bobby in a interview to tell what his personality was like. I think Bobby's wife is a consultant for this movie but unless the writers, producer's, director's spoke with the Debarge family, members of Switch, Berry Gordy or Jermaine Jackson how would they even know. Bobby's wife wasn't with him at the peak of his fame.
Bunny, her mother and members of the group Switch revealed that they weren't contacted to give their input on the film. Original TV One was going to do a movie on the DeBarge family but it seems like they decided to film a Bobby DeBarge film instead.

I feel that the producers should have contacted Bobby's siblings who grew up with him and could have given more account of their childhood and their lives before, during and after their success.

Who were their enemies and what happened: who got after them, tried to harm them or who tried to kill them or who killed them? Did they go to school: where, when and how? Why didn’t they go to school or further their education?

I found out 15 years ago that there were many unofficial adoptions from the beginning of time up until the 1940s especially, in the United States, where there were no paperwork, no attorney nor court, nothing legal. You just take the baby, infant, small child, teen, young adult and older adults home with you and when the ‘census records takers’ comes around you just tell them that its your daughter/son if they will be too young to remember that they were separated from their biological parents; they are not never told about whatever happened to their parents, that they were/are not their children, and that they are not the parents. Not only did relatives take in the orphans but none relatives or friends of the parents and neighbors. Back then heads of households took in strangers when they didn’t have nobody to stay with or take care of them; and the census records aren’t correct as to the ‘role’ of the baby, small child to the head of households, in many cases if the infant, small child isn’t no kin then they are mistreated badly, not talked to, nor cared about nor looked out for and encouraged to do better or stay in school. This is the reasons that you may not be liked, respected, cared about, talked to, looked out for by who you think is your parents, grandparents, greats, aunts/uncles cousins and other kin. Collect the Family history anyway, because you could be possibly cousins, you would have to get an Ancestry dna test or 23&me to find out for sure!
They needed to rethink some of the "CAST" for the movie some of those dehydrated wigs on his head bruh😨. Checking the movie out because the DeBarge family was hella talented💯.
