One of the most odd but unforgettable songs I've ever heard.

Brel's song so well interpreted by Scott...makes me think of the Pieta, capturing the essence of the human experience and the mothers seeing yet more sons going off to war....how our soul spirits must yearn for God's heaven....

Though Scott sings this with such passion, the real credit should go to Jacques Brel.
Most of the songs Scott recorded were English version of his recordings, Scott himself truly admired Jacques Brel.

Grateful to have found this (I had forgotten about it.) Very moving interpretation beautifully sung with perfect emotion & nuances. Moved me very much & brought back memories of another time that I miss. Thank you for posting.

If you like this one, then I'm sure you'll like his other Jacques Brel covers as well (you'll find them all on YT). And I would recommend each and every one of his self-titled albums. :)
(btw, the name of the movie is "Flashbacks of a Fool").

This was playing during the credits of some movie with the current James Bond in it. I finally tracked it down. This guy is amazing. Can anyone recommend more music by him ?

This sounds like a 1960s era production

@Makreelvis You're right to criticise the ending. It is inadequate, but it's Brel's ending. That doesn't mean Brel was right. The versions by Rachel Demby, Nana Mouskouri and Judy Collins are far better in the regard.

It's like a crooner who used to write lyrics for Death Metal bands.

I love this song, but I get a little annoyed by the ending.
You want it to go on, have more pressure before it ends.

@@williamvance3271 Woah, you are throwing me back haha! I made that comment 13 years ago. I gave it another listen and while I can appreciate the ending more I still agree with young me. Thanks for the throwback!
