    Found 2 TXVs with failed power heads this month. One rubbed out, the other completely snapped off. Typical symptom on AC is LOW pressure and HIGH pressure at the same time. Stacking refrigerant in the liquid line / condenser but compressor suction is low. If you ever get a low pressure fault on an AC with a TXV, check your high side AND liquid line pressure before pumping nitrogen in checking for leaks!

    • @brnmcc01
      @brnmcc01 Рік тому +1

      The other symptom I've found is you get very high superheat, high return gas temp, and crazy high subcooling like 40 degrees. The high subcooling tells you the system is fully charged, and high superheat means there's no gas making it to the evap.

    • @FrenchBeefCDN
      @FrenchBeefCDN Рік тому +1

      @@brnmcc01 True. Im more or less talking about you walk up to the unit and its in low pressure alarm or high, or both. No gauges on yet. I checked electrical on the switches first, then put my gauge on the suction to confirm low pressure switch was open. Then checked high pressure, was not low on charge. Went looking for the txv bulb for rub outs and it was dangling in the air. Other was a rub out, just swapped the head last week and its running great, These were 2 ton Lieberts and a 25 ton York Package.

    i like to cut the cap tube on the power head first. tons of pressure on cap tube the valve is bad and since its all getting replaced no harm. Or cut the cap tube and little to no pressure and its easy to say it was only the power head and you just saved yourself time and the customer money, Ive already diagnosed the bad valve so its either going to need the whole valve or just the power head.

    • @Bryan-Hensley
      @Bryan-Hensley Рік тому

      No where near the same. Not even remotely. A txv is more like a main jet in the carb. A txv can be replaced with a single jet. It's simply a temperature adjusted main jet. When the outside temperature is higher than normal the liquid pressure is higher which pushes more through the "main jet" orifice, in a system without a txv. A txv simply regulates the flow regardless of the outside temperature. With coolers, the outside temperature can be wide range.

The drawback of doing that is then you have to have someone put on fire watch, and keep walking thru the building.
