- All the Right Reasons - The Jayhawks
As I lay upon my bed, I begin dreaming
Of how it's gonna be the day that I am free
Once I settle like the dust upon the table
But then you came along
You helped me write this song
I don't know what day it is,
I can't recall the seasons
And I don't remember how we got this far
All I know is I'm loving you for all the right reasons
In my sky you'll always be my morning star
Like a tired bird flying high across the ocean
I was outside looking in
You made me live again
From the mountains to the prairies little babies
Figures fill their heads
Visions bathed in red
I don't know what day it is,
I can't recall the seasons
And I don't remember how we got this far
All I know is I'm loving you for all the right reasons
In my sky you'll always be my morning star
From the train in Manchester, England
Lightning fills the sky
As I watched you wave goodbye
From the mountains to the prairie little babies
Figures fill their heads
Visions bathed in red
I don't know what day it is,
I can't recall the seasons
And I don't remember how we got this far
All I know is I'm loving you for all the right reasons
In my sky you'll always be my morning star
I'm not sure that I can define how this song makes me feel, but it's pretty close to this: "Fernweh, or farsickness, is also a suffering, but is less clear cut and rectifiable. It is a consuming longing to be somewhere you’ve never been; an aching to be in a distant and unknown land, an ambiguous yearning for anything, anywhere else, as anyone else." - Talia Gutin...
Man, what a great song. Just seems to do everything right and really hits the heart.
This song made my life, literally! It is just so deeply honest and beautiful, I will never stop loving this song.
+OnlyA Northernsong Yup, well said
Thanks!
I believe this song saved my marriage and my relationship with God at the same time.Indirectly of course.
In LOVE with this song, makes me whole!
one of the most beautiful love songs ever.
I´m agree.
This song became so meaning after my dear sisters death. So sweet thanks!
I play this for my wife whenever I think of it. It was our wedding song.
Mitchelle Soras ours too!
...that's great.
Love this band ... another gem...
A really moving song, quite beautiful and deep at the same time. Always makes me feel better...
Outstanding.
Thank you Brandon
This was the song I walked down the aisle to on my wedding day 7 years ago.
I walked down to aisle to this as well and now I am praying that memories of this song and that day will save my marriage....such a simple message but so powerful
Holly. I would like to know how things turned out for you. It was six years ago when you wrote your comment
@@grifftrain , Me, too.
Amazing song. Love the 2:03 mark and then starting the lyrics up again with
From a train in Manchester, England
Me too, I'm a born Lancashire lass🌹🏵️ just love that part of the song living out of country.
I play this when i want to feel the Love..
A mutually musicsl friend of mine raved about the Jayhawks for some years. I just didn't really see what he meant. That is until I heard Rainy Day Music, specifically All the Right Reasons( and Madman). They are both Nostalgia ripping,w incredibly well written and well arranged with tjhe one of a kind vocal blend.. Both songs take me places...Good Places
I need to hear this before I lay upon my bed and start dreaming
Ironically, that's exactly where I'm going...this is one to sleep with!
Easter Sunday, Pink Moon ... red as raspberries - ❤loved❤ - so blown away ...
I play this daily - sometimes more :)))
me too
A very special song. I will always love it and the memories it brings back. ♡
Haven’t gotten into this band yet, but after 1-2 listens it’s just one of those songs that’s objectively a great song, a rare breed of songs. Similar to a Beatles melody in a way; and it could be a the band song sounds like Rick danko
I'll keep believing, my tired bird xo :)
This is one of my favorite songs but I never seem to notice the lyrics because the melody is so beautiful and perfect
Ha. I thought that was just me. I get lost in the melody on good songs and never remember the Lyrics.
This is embarrassing, especially in my 6th decade, perhaps it's animal instinct, cuz the music often overwhelms me to the extent, that the lyrics can go unnoticed for decades... 🤫
Melody persons are more intelligent than lyrics persons. That's just how it is.
hey you all got to buy this album and every one they ever made

Lovely melody and lyrics... saw them this week in Liverpool
francesco roskell p
same :) they have a way with words in all of their songs.
❤❤❤❤❤
God save the Jayhawks
@SangerSongs me too! seven years ago as well. congrats! hope life has been treating you and yours as well as me. cheers!
@rustilehay It's played capo'd on the 2nd fret. The chords are E, (technically F# but I'm ignoring the capo) - C#minor - F#minor - D - B, then the chorus is A - E - F#Minor - A - E (2x) ending on B. Good luck, it is a great song!
"But then you came along" well, I don't know about y'all, but I definitely thought of golden smog and until you came along. Aside from the fact that this is before 98
@SangerSongs
Makes one love his wife like the first time he ever saw her doesn't it. One of the most powerful songs ever penned. IMH and expert O :)
I like this song. I also wonder, is there anybody who knows what was meant by the lyrics,
"From the mountains to the prairies little babies
Figures fill their heads
Visions bathed in red"
I don't understand that part. I can make things up...
(1) Numbers of a budget gone into debt are red figures. Little babies all over the country are picturing themselves in debt. Seems out of sorts with the other lyrics.
(2) Little babies wake up early, and they see their parents in the red sunrise.
Help?
Maybe...just maybe he's writing about himself and his love being little babies and the visions they are having of their future together.
Only Gary can answer that question. :)
he's just describing beautiful things, first line gives it away, this song is half-dream.
I was wondering the same thing...........
Learning how to play this for my gf
So, just curious, i have loved this song forever..anyone know any othersongs that are like this...wonderwall...under the bridge...etc? good songsi could learn for acoustic, or in general. i have been looking for a while and love this whole album. thanks!
Son Volt, Ray LaMontagne
Is this their best album?
All of them are their best albums
This is my favorite. As Northernsong said, they are all very good.
OK, I got Hollywood Town Hall at a garage sale. I'll have to pick up this one.
This is a great album. Perhaps my favorite Jayhawks record. I also love Sound of Lies
