Ringo played the cymbals a lot in the earlier days, influencing many drummers with that classic Beatles "Tin/BackBeat" sound. This is serious rock drumming, '64/'65!!!

Throughout the years I have heard some sources say that Ringo wasn't that good of a drummer but this proves beyond any doubt of his ability to wail on them!!!
I'm glad Pete Best got some compensation for what he did. In 1960, when the Beatles couldn't find a drummer and Paul made it clear he wasn't going to be a drummer, Pete was all they had. They brought him in days before they left for Hamburg for the first time and he held them up until they became better and more established. What hurt Pete a little(and eventually added up to his dismissal), was Pete was an extrovert. When Pete wasn't available or wasn't around, Ringo was there. When Rory Storm and the Hurricanes would be done for the night(or morning), Ringo would sit in the audience(or find where they performed) and would watch the Beatles play. When Pete wasn't available, he would step in and perform with them. Ringo would hang out with them, even napping in their room. For Ringo, he just took advantage of an opportunity and the rest is history.
Ringo didn't hang around the Beatles hoping to get a gig. He was far more established than they were at the time, and Lennon didn't think they could get him.
Ringo was able to look the part as Purdie mentioned, and that's all Ringo brought. Without a doubt Ringo is part of one of music's most successful bands and had no more talent than the worse of the worse in the business. Probly the highest offset degree of success vs real talent in all music history .
@@mikem9001 I never said(or implied)Ringo "hung around" for anything! As a matter of fact, it was George who wanted him to play at some of their gigs when Pete Best wasn't available.
Thank you for an excellent vid showcasing RINGO on Long Tall Sally. There are a couple of videos that I watch over and over back to back, just to see Ringo do his thing!
Ringo kicked the hell out of that song...and with all the excitement of being in the midst of a live performance Ringo kept the tempo steady from start to finish. Great drummer!
Still astonished the way he still keep kicking those hithats on the beat while rocking away. Remember he's a left handed drummer and playing it on a right handed drum and to make a point, it could shuffle your coordination. He's great because he still has kept his coordination.
Don't give Ringo anymore Starbucks Coffee he is to wild as is. See what happens when you give Ringo Starbucks Coffee he goes nuts on his drums. Ha! Ha! Love this version of Long Tall Sally done by my favorite pop band The Beatles. I almost got to go see The Beatles live in concert in Kansas City,Missouri in 1964 but my parents wouldn't take me to see them.
Christine Klinger that's like me saying I almost got to see Elvis but my parents wouldn't pay for the return transatlantic flight from England. You didn't 'almost got to go see' them at all. Shame for you because I saw them twice in 63 and 65 and they were Fab.
My favorite part about this specific performance where the audio comes from is that, despite the screaming and the guitars and all that. Ringos snare is audible, even without a mic on him.
So many comments about Ringo's super drumming -- but the real driving force comes from Paul's superb vocal, Paul's bass and the rhythm guitars of Lennon and Harrison. The Beatles had it all!

Just the dedication. He throws his whole body into his drumming, it's mind-blowing to look at.
