I've seen lots and lots of belly dancers and different styles, but I have never seen a dancer, no matter what her style, that I totally notice the arm and hand movements and combinations more than I notice the hip and footwork. Best belly dancer I have ever seen. Always been more fond of tribal by far, but this type of fusion is great. Not thrilled with the music but who cares....
I feel somehow paternally inclined toward kira Lebdeva. In this particular song this probably doesn't imply identifying with whoever was pandora's father or fathers in the mitology, but I guess what stroke me most strongly is how by excessivelly translating and deciphering her art we lose most of it. The relationship between Kira Lebdeva's art and its translation and etc... is quite paradoxical, and from my particular perspective, finding so much great comment on her works, more than in any dancer I remember on youtube, is a great testimony to the quality of her art. But given that, who would she be? The multitude of answers is one direction into where to think the quality of her art, but there are issues of technological rape through eletromagnetic waves and all kinds of things that were not present when the mith of pandora was first recorded. In God of War Pandora dies at the end before Kratos kills all the olimpic gods exept maybe for Aphrodite. I wouldn't like her, Kira, to pursue her art to the point of death, maybe that is where my paternal feelings toward her come from. After everything she has accomplished through her art, I say her life is more valuable than her art.
Rewatched it again today. Today she felt consistently softer in the whole song that was exploding all over the place. Her movements were flowing but she was lighter than water. Like a mirage woman made of mist who confidently danced among bombs that exploded in water.
