I’m sure you’ve figured this out by now but to conserve battery life the tool will go to sleep after a set amount of time of inactivity has elapsed. That grip switch is there to wake the tool up when you grab it without having to hit a separate switch that’s located in an inconvenient spot elsewhere on the tool. At least that’s what I’ve seen other reviewers say it does. One review comparing it to the Milwaukee actually specifically called it out as a great idea. They said that they’re often holding a wall up with one hand and they go to sink nails with the Milwaukee only to find it’s gone to sleep and the switch to wake it up can’t be accessed one handed while you’re holding the tool as though you’re ready to fire nails.

I've been a Ridgid user for years but have been wanting to switch to Milwalkee and I had bought the Milwalkee framing nailer but returned it and bought the Ridgid. I like Milwalkee's plethora of tool selection which is why I now have both, but you can't beat Ridgid's LSA so I am hoping that they keep up with the Milwalkee tool selection.

Reading the operator manual page nine under installing/removing battery pack under the second NOTE it says the grip switch is to activate the nailer whenever the battery pack is removed or replaced or the tool enters into inactive mode. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this tool.

I have most of the Rigid line of tools. Definitely going to be getting this, thanks for the honest review. My guess for the button that typically lights an LED is they probably share grips among multiple tools. Even though this one doesn't have a light they may use a grip from another tool that does to save cost on building different grips. 🤷‍♂️

Good review! I didnt even know they had a cordless nailer. I have two of the Milwaukee nailers, I bought into Milwaukee tools years ago. I think overall they are great nailers, but they are definitely targeted more towards remodels, small projects, or oops I forgot some blocking. Mainly because of the weight and the awkwardness of these nailers. I can’t speak for the ridgid obvious I don’t own one but it looks just as awkward to use. All in all great guns to own because they do save time. Still a long way to go until they overcome pneaumatic nailers in my opinion.

several months back I saw these where coming out, only the 21* was out at the time and I have boxes of 30* nails to use so I waited, last week I saw HD had the 30* available so I snatched one up, the part i'm having trouble with is the owners manual talks about checking the pressure in the little air tank thing (or whatever it is) after the first use to make sure it's at 125 PSI but the air valve looks different from the normal shrader valve, like you would see on a car tire, so not sure how to check or "top off" the tank for optimum performance.

The only issue I have at this time, is with the price. HD sells the gun alone or the gun with 2 - 2 ah batteries. Charger is extra. Getting the gun with the 2 batteries and the charger is over 400 bucks with the gun pk on sale. If you opt for the charger and a 4ah battery, the combination would be over 500. Now with the lifetime warranty and daily use, it might be worth it. But you would think that Ridgid would put a package together with a 4ah battery, charger and gun to entice people to switch to their platform. Even professionals like myself have to weigh the advantages and money making aspects of a purchase.
Price is always a consideration and remembering that many of my bigger tools were less in cost, I have to do some thinking.

Examples: I purchased from online Ridgid Dealer a dual battery card and Lifetime warranty was declined-they said only 3 years. Purchased battery from eBay from Hardware Store and Lifetime Warranty was declined-they said only 3 years. All my tools/batteries registered with Ridgid and all receipts uploaded. All reference emails saved. Kinda misleading, but worth paying the extra at HD for piece of mind. HD (I was told) replaces on the spot. Just FYI.

Not sure if the orange tip is so good, looks like it would be hard to toe nail with. Also would like to see it nail into two 2x4's for real life situations.

As a framing nailer that thing needs a more aggressive safety tip. Rubber is nice on Brad an pin nailers for finishing work rubbers gonna sucks when u have to toe nail a nail in a tight space. Your gonna wish that tip had a spike to grab the wood. Definitely a nice gun would just like to see a more aggressive tip.

Great video! I bought the R09895 (30 deg framing nailer) for a house build a few days ago, and it has lost power significantly! Found out that you have to refill these nailers with air every 50,000 nails or so, but I can't get it to refill!! (I'm using a tire inflator attachment on my air line amd holding it on for 30 to 45 sec but it isn't filling) Have you had better luck recharging the air tank on these bad boys!!???? Cheers!

Make sure you are using the batteries 3Ah or higher for best performance. The batteries 2Ah are not recommended by users manual.

@@zelmd8963 good info for sure! I am using a 4Ah battery and have made sure that it was fully charged etc. It really is acting like it's "low on air" much the same as a pneumatic gun acts when I forget to turn on the air compressor and it runs down a bit (that happens more than I'd like to admit! :-)

This one and the AEG look almost identical. The big difference with the AEG one coming out is that you can refill it with your air compressor when it eventually leaks down, unlike the others that you have to pay for a service with expensive nitrogen and whatever else some of them use. And they claim it will run for 20,000 nails before requiring a top up. Self service gets my vote.

That’s been my outlook with not wanting to be bummed out on the Milwaukee. It may be a lil better than the HPT (although the Milwaukee is heavier noticeably which matters.)but I can take my lil regulator I bought under $50 and refill my hpt when it inevitably loses pressure. That’s a winning feature many will be happy with in the few years to come.

I really can't believe TTI would make a Rigid framing nailer that out preforms their own Milwaukee line. Either one is overpriced or one is just TTI orange or TTI lime green sharing the same internals.
