Any chance you'll be doing a video demonstrating you putting on the entire costume? I would love to see all the inner working and layers come together. I am going to begin putting this costume together for my girlfriend as a fun side project for me, and it would be stellar to see it all come together.
OOOHHH boy here I go, you inspired me to do it :o Nice vid & costume! I just ordered the glove (now $210 rip) and I already have a Korbanth skinny flex that I installed with a NBV4 & neo pixel blade. So now the fun part, reading the forums and picking specific pieces (probably going to use the fabric you linked.) You also inspired me to make the belt myself, which I'm particularly excited about, so thanks! :D
Christopher Hurd glad we could help! I’m jealous of your Skinnyflex!! That saber is beautiful. The belt is super fun and very doable with the tutorials on the RL forum! Best of luck on your build 👍
I have a graflex made by shameem M, if you were into sabers you know who that is, he made me a custom 100% accurate Anakin Skywalker lightsaber, with a kyber crystal in it.
Anakin Skywalker nice! I miss Shameem :( I think I remember a video he did about modding a graflex with anakin style parts, pretty cool. His tutorial is how I knew how to install mine :) (and tcss blade tutorial)
U can buy 2 yards for pleather for $10 at Walmart Fabric Section. I got some good leather for mines. Velcro is better for the belt & for the tunic inside the fabric.
there i commented on this video which means that u have 66 comments on here. also i have an anakin costume and the black straps fall off my shoulder alot. but i have seen that the jedi have an under tunic under the top one. does that help
What's the difference between "Pre-Armor" Vader suit and the normal episode 3 Jedi anakin suit? I question this because it specifically says "Pre-Armor"
“Pre-Armored Vader” is the 501st Legion’s title for dark side Anakin. To meet the requirements for the costume, you also have to include some eye makeup and contacts. But the costume itself is not different! I mainly included that because I’m walking through a costume that is 501st approved and attempting to show viewers how to do it without spending $1000! :) hope that helps!
great video! do you know if the fabric tabards extend past the obi on anakin's back? i can't find any reference pictures that gives me a conclusive yes or no anywhere!
@@nerdgeekcosplay909 it’s right around your waist on the back! Like the lower back area. The Obi covers a wide area, so the specific location is flexible as long as it’s covered by the Obi. I had it fixed right under where the belt sits on top of the obi. The tabards were the last part of the costume I worked on since the measurements of the rest of costume help determine the specific lengths of the tabards for your body.
Unfortunately Tanner is not doing commissions right now. BUT he is doing consultations for people looking to build this costume! If that's something you're interested in email us at filmaboutsomething@gmail.com
I love your costume so much I came back to watch again! Im finally getting to finish this dang costume! When I commented earlier this year I just ordered my leather Tabards from Custom Props. I just got them in 2 weeks ago! Thanks US customs and Covid! I had the costume on the back burner since I thought they would never come but on a random Friday I get a missed package slip marked Argentina! I have a new glove on order from LikeLinda on Etsy(another go to for 501st) You will be shocked when I say this. I want a robe with my costume. To many Anakins dont use robes. I wanted to stand out with a robe. Wool is very expensive and non wool robes tend to look wrong. The robe I found and am using is the Super Deluxe Robe from GASP! Rubies! Its $50-$80 depending where its sold but it's actually the rare case where Rubies actually made a decent product and it's made in the states. Its very clearly not wool but the texture has the soft frizzy appearance most more expensive non wool robes dont have. The hood is a very full large cut as well as the sleeves and ia thick and heavy. Its extremely nice for coming from Rubies. And after just reading the CRL I dont see how it cant get approved. It doesnt have the shoulder tucks but thats easy to add.
Good question! I used some E6000 to glue some industrial velcro on the underside of the shoulder part of the tabard and under the belt area in the front and back. That helps the tabard stay in place without the belt even being fastened! Hope this helps :)
You did an amazing job. I'm in the middle of this build as well except I'm sourcing the different pieces finished since I'm not a tailor or leather worker. I have been doing a ton of research on the tunic color and texture. As it seams to be a standard with film costumes, the actual fabric or anything close is nearly impossible to find. What you used looks really good but up close is where it lacks the accuracy. I used a crinkle cotton that gives off the basic crinkle/gauze look for the entire tunic but again looking at it up close compared to the screen fabric it's still different. What I can not find at all is any material similar to what was used on the inner tunic. It's suppose to be a crinkle/gauze or bubble silk which is drastically different to the outer tunic texture. But I only find the generic shiny silk on my on line searches. The color, i see why people mistake Anakin's costume as black. It's because the shade of brown boarder lines black and to the untrained eye it comes of as black. I payed attention to Anakin in ROTS for the color. It's a really dark brown that almost looks black but certain lighting and angles gave off some of the brown color in the fabric. I like your hair! Me being blond I decided to get a wig.
Solid observations! Yeah accurate fabric tends to be a consistently difficult item to source for most soft part costumes. The brown cotton gauze is a decent replacement especially if you want to make this costume on the cheaper side. You could definitely drop thousands of dollars into this and still not be quite there. Also yeah the crinkle/bubble silk fabric is so infuriating. I have had no luck finding any fabric that quite replicates that look. Thanks about the hair! I grew it myself.
@@tannerortiz-ingold9035 thank you! I have been researching the costume off and on from reference to vendor pieces before I decided to purchase anything. My Vader is going on it's 10 year anniversary. Makes me feel old! Lol. But I always strive for as close as possible when I can. My philosophy is to represent what is on screen, not what people think they see and contribute to misconceptions. On another video someone thought Anakin's costume was all Stark black! Lol
Your costume looks amazing! Using this video to put together my own Anakin outfit! Which brand of dye would recommend for the tunics, and how lany bottles did you use? Thanks, keep up the great work!
I used RIT dye! There are good recommendations for the amount of depending on how much fabric you’re dyeing on the Rebel legion forum. I want to say I used about 4-6 bottles of brown with 2 bottles of black, but I really cannot quite remember at this point😂 I dyed about 10 yards of fabric at once. You can always go darker if you aren’t happy with how it turns out after the first go, but you can’t make it lighter, so just keep trying and letting it dry between each bath so that you see it’s true color. You don’t want to use too much black, just enough to darken the brown dye. Hope that helps!
I used the patterns from the Rebel Legion forums on their generic Jedi tunic thread since they’re all similar in style! Message me on IG and I can send you individual costume piece pics 👍
The outer tunic is two layers of the same fabric. If I had enough fabric I would’ve made it three. You could absolutely use another fabric to line the outer tunic, but I don’t think it’s really necessary. It has a good weight when layering the fabric
did you taper the sleeve into the cuff on the right sleeve or is it the same width as the left sleeve and you just cuffed it at the appropriate length? thanks!
I wanted the fabric to bunch up at the top of the glove so I left the pattern the same as the left sleeve, I just cut it further up the arm (about halfway down the forearm) so I didn’t waste fabric! Hope this helps :)
Haha please show me an accurate leather glove for $30 and I’ll buy it 😂 the one you’re referring to is likely the rubies glove, which can be MADE into a more accurate glove, but it’s far too thin and the buckles are all incorrect. I believe there are also threads on the Rebel Legion forums for people who have done this, but I wanted a real leather glove with accurate buckles for the 501st. The rubies glove is nowhere near accurate so it won’t be accepted without modifications.
Me for ten years still wondering how they can fight for so long with that much clothes on

The fabric tabards end at the obi in the back and in the front the stop right at the bottom of the tunic 👍

Tylernol custom props does sell everything (minus the boots) if you have $1,000 lying around
