Hong Kong actress and lawyer-turned-Buddhist-crusader Mary Jean Reimer caught a Chinese man posing as a Buddhist priest in the UK. She confronted the man and forced him to disrobe on the street. But her behaviour has created some indignation in the Buddhist community, with some saying she had used violence to deal with violence.

First off all what he did is illegal because he is violating the order of the Buddhist monks and second if this person chooses to be a scammer doing something illegal he should be ready to pay for it. You may say hes not hurting anyone but still hes getting money in return for literally nothing. The guy is making money off a lie. It'd be better if he begged cause at least he was honest. Get the name, ID, and tell him straight up what he was doing is wrong.

Well not exactly. If you solicit money for a legit veterans organization recognized by the law and turn the money over to them it is lawful. Our law says it is unlawful only if you use the uniform to profit or gain monetarily or attempt to profit for yourself. Anyone can wear a uniform on Halloween or a costume party even if I think it is disrespectful to real veterans of the armed forces.

Great work. Excellent. I confronted a fake monk in Singapore (who i would run past regularly) and called him out on it.. He told me to "fxxk off" which wasnt exactly very buddhist of him. Bruh, there’s a thing in Buddhist called “Huayun” which means monk go out to ask for food. It’s just you don’t really say it nowadays.
@@furiousphoenix9784 I think I was pretty clear. They have “begging bowls” that they will sit with-that is not even my term. I understand they have both practical and religious significance. Sitting with a bowl with the intention of receiving help is “begging”. Saying they can walk around in their robes and receive help is basically supporting the idea. If they never have to actually ask then-and I acknowledge this analogy is rather crass-wearing monks robes in Buddhist communities is essentially holding a cardboard sign asking for money. I am not Buddhist, but the knowledge that they can’t “earn” a living is enough for me to take the initiative to offer food. I respect their devotion even if I don’t agree. It is, however, a religious form of begging.

You could perhaps specify a sect or point out some difference in practice between current buddhist monks and historical ones not supported by Buddhist scriptures, but there is no one earthly arbiter for Buddhist monk-hood.
Chinese Buddhism (漢傳佛教）monks don't ask people for money. Theravada Buddhism (南傳佛教）in Southeast Asia like Thailand , Laos , Cambodia only ask for food before noon only.
