- This video documents the construction of a conical vault at the Sri Aurobindo Society's Sharanam Phase II campus in Pondicherry. The vault varies in span from 6.61m to 15m, varies in rise from 1.5m to 2.5m, and varies in thickness from 24cm at the base to 17.7cm at the crown.

Is this how the C19th British built their railway arches? Usually we see bricks along the span but some have have the first layer bricks set at 45 degrees to the span.

The construction technique which is used here is Nubian or something else? I am designing a similar vault in my design so wanted to know.

Similar arches in the Catalan have survived earthquakes that have torn down more modern building and some of them are over a thousand years old.

There are other asymmetrical loads which are more critical in this area than earthquake.
