Dream catchers are one of the most fascinating traditions of Native Americans. The traditional dream catcher was intended to protect the sleeping individual from negative dreams, while letting positive dreams through. The positive dreams would slip through the hole in the centre of the dream catcher, and glide down the feathers to the sleeping person below. The negative dreams would get caught up in the web, and expire when the first rays of the sun struck them.

Great octave unison fanfare beginning to this sparkling Overture with some crunchy chromatic harmony, very filmy with a great melodic line. Following a ternary structure the work moves on to a fast middle section with some great woodwind runs. Love the slow melancholic section, and the use of exotic tuned percussion such as the Vibraphone. Some interesting harmonic twists evident which make it a great piece for bands to perform as a concert opener or overture. Another great composition by Ian and a positive contribution to the Concert Band repertoire. A real tour de force which will thrill your band and audience, making them want more. A great ending with themes returning to bring the Overture ''The Dreamcatcher'' to a brilliant conclusion. Kudos to the composer Ian Macpherson, another fine work worthy of performances worldwide. One of Ian's most brilliant works, absolutely in awe of this fine composer! Go purchas this Overture!
