    I disagree with the comments that the BBC are showing India in a negative light - on the contrary, I think this documentary shows that India is a nation of incredibly resourceful people who get on with their work in a positive and imperturbable manner - an attitude that I believe is something to admire and aspire to.
    INDIA: I LOVE YOU!

      BBC has covered poorest of the poor in this propaganda documentary...fast forward 10 years, India has now doubled its GDP and in next 3 years, it will have 3rd highest GDP in the world..thanks to our current PM, 250 million people like the ones highlighted in this video are now out of extreme poverty....If world peace stays inract, give us 10 more years and I am sure we will have a fully transformed nation with much better GDP per capita...

    I have. This documentary isn't about the poverty in India but, rather, a testament to the hopes and industriousness of it's people in even the worst of circumstances. As you said, it is a really sweet documentary.

    it makes me wonder.......if i'd be happier living a life like this, concentrating on just staying alive seems less depressing than seeing who has the best clothes or new phone or most money. this life may be hard but its simple, that appeals to me.

    I'm a white American, and I find the India people to be very friendly. I was treated in India with kindness and friendliness.
    The Indians in America are also friendly people as well.

    I've been to India several times in the last few years, and when people ask me about my experience, I always say that India is an education. Some people are offended, but I think this documentary shows why I hold that view. I hope all the hard-working people in this doc reach their dreams.

    I was shocked at the poverty of India when I was there. Every Indian I met in the US told me how much greater it is than America, they were obviously letting their pride cloud their perception. Even in the poorest areas in America there is clean water to drink and shower with.

      I am also indian but have never been there nor care to go . Here in Canada they say the same that India is so awesome , i ask them why are you here then? the reply is complete silence...

    • @tomsjth
      @tomsjth 10 років тому +2

      yes..you know why ?in US too much work for survival.people work like crazy they think they are going to die tomorrow if they wont work like this. Instead in India if you have a good job, relax enjoy and save money.some of the high paying jobs in US is shitty job in India. example a nurse

    • @jcismybud
      @jcismybud 10 років тому +1

      lol A nurse is a shitty job in India?? .. See thats a problem aswell everyone from there is all about ' titles' " oh i'm the ceo of my food stand" lol

    • @tomsjth
      @tomsjth 10 років тому +1

      I was expecting you to comment on this..yes buddy title matters..Didn't your parents tell that to you? Your successes is judged by how much you make ,how much education you have and what title of course you hold..reply to your 'complete silence' statement is difficult to go back and compete with people there.

    • @jcismybud
      @jcismybud 10 років тому

      What my parents taught me is to never ever think ur better than anyone else (never judge) and a title is not to throw it in someone elses face , like they do and by the sounds of it you too.. You can be a garbage man and have a better life than someone in the medical field . Most indians are shallow and superficial even the ones that are born here(Canada) because their parents dont teach them jack shit ..I know a friend who is a tradesman and has a few houses (paid for) an awesome family with respect for others and has retired at the age of 45 and the people that looked down on him cause he swung a hammer for a living are now kissing his ass ... If you measure success by wealth then i feel sorry for you cause you will never be content.I am comfortable and blessed with an amazing family without the "title".... Good luck in life ,,, buddy

    in all honesty, the people there seems more compassionate and humane compared with the people of England. Here we are all big on manners but never really be content with all we have; people consider themselves poor simply cos they cannot afford the newest 'cool' products on the market, and blame it all on the government. From this documentary, everyone seems happy even though they are living in a river of shit, and is optimistic with what life brings them around the corner.
    I hope 1 day the government of india will not be so corrupt/idle and actually help these people

    You know, this is the real world, where people suffer but still find time to laugh. Where they fight these huge problems, act like it's nothing and let me thinking how they can do it. I just feel ashamed of myself , because my good and secure life made me forget what is really important, family, love, friends. This world isn't about having money and buying stuff, it's about people.

    "There could be anything in here, even PooP! But we can even get gold from poop."
    "People do wrong jobs, thieves, bandits, murderers, they'll do anything for money.
    Our work isn't like that - it's hard, but it's honest."
    If those people can take pride in this then it saddens me to know that some aren't happy to even earn 40-70k a year while living in a country that offers decent living conditions.

    India's obsession with China is just not healthy. It's trying to match up with China, a country with 5 times the GDP and on average 5x wealthier, in all the flashy developments, eg military spending and things like space exploration. For some strange reason, India is trying to build a 1st rate military while it's still one of the poorest nations in the world.
    Instead of spending $20-30 billion on French Rafale fight jets, close to $4 billion on refurbishing a Russian carrier + airwing, $15 billion on Russian Su-30MKI fight jets, don't you think these billions of dollars should be spend on improving India's terrible infrastructure, healthcare system, education system (74% literacy)?

    It's only a few large cities that are crowded. Do the math and you'll find that the entire human population of Earth could fit into Texas, with over 1,000 square feet per person.
    If you want to pack people in standing room only, there's Zanzibar.
    Every SciFi story about Earth or any other planet completely covered in a multi level city has vastly undershot the population numbers. If you want to only give each person 200 square feet and only cover the land, that number is in the trillions. But all on one floor wouldn't work. At least 50% of the space would be needed for hallways, services, some small parks, light shafts etc. So split the number between two floors, then add a basement level for things like power generation, water recycling, waste management and a top level to cover with a world girdling farm.
    One of the most ridiculous misses on living space capacity for the depicted population is Coruscant in the Star Wars universe. With all those super tall buildings, either every inhabitant has a million square foot apartment or the population is in the quadrillions and there's a continuous inpouring flood of food and other necessities and an equal outgoing flow of waste and whatever products are produced there.
    If your story world is going to use mega-buildings to hold a huge population, it will only need a few.
    Another swing and a big miss is in the "Spinward Fringe" book series which starts out with a space station having a walkable surface area half that of Earth, yet most inhabitants live in closet sized rooms. How many trillion people on the station, or is 90% of it empty space for some reason?
    I'd love to see at least one author get the numbers right in a story involving super high population, even if it's only as universally densely populated as Monaco.

For me it clearly portrayed poor people living in big cities (in this case, India). I absolutely loved this documentary, and all the Indians in it. Humble people, trying to get some food on the plate and roof over their heads, and even while struggling so hard each day, they still can find moments of joy and share it with loved ones. Very inspirational.

    The problem is people thinking moving into major cities would do them well when for the most part the people that do move to the cities barley make ends meet and could probably be said they were just as well off if not better before the move. Once you get to a city unless your well funded it's easy to get taken advantage of by others who know you have little to no other choice in the matter.
