A Breakup Story.... So You Think You Can Dance finale choreographer Talia Favia's take on breakout singer/songwriter James Bay's "Let it Go", performed by Madonna principal lead dancer Chaz Buzan and Courtney Schwartz is a chill-inducing mix of heartfelt emotion.

Talia Favia is an LA-based choreographer whose work has been described as "challenging from the inside out." Talia is the creator/artistic director of LIV Dance, and founder/director of contemporary dance company "The Difference Between". Yessssssssssssss!!!!
Jesus christ the strength and athleticism that must take...
I agree with Julie about the control as I am also a dancer, especially in moves like the one towards the beginning when she did the head stand and held til he picked her up.
Emma Brickson can you tell me which kind of dance is this called? It comes from contemporary maybe? Thanks
Miko Landia yep this is contemporary!

Can you relate? Let us know how you feel. This beautiful piece to James Bay "Let It Go" choreographed by Talia Favia, and performed by Chaz Buzan and Courtney Schwartz moved us...powerful! Another amazing video from hit director Tim Milgram. #DanceOnJamesBay
Beautiful! 💞
I'm going through a break up that is literally out of my hands. It has nothing to do with me why we cannot be together. I know she still loves me and I love her. It just cannot be. I can't have any part of her in my life to be able to move on. She wouldn't let go. I wouldn't let go. So I had to burn the bridge. And it makes me so, so... Sad. Beautiful video. Brought me to tears.
+DanceOn I went through a break up recently, I still love her more than anything, but she doesn't love me anymore, it breaks my heart, but there isn't much I can do.
This video was beyond amazing.
+DanceOn phenomenal job. It really encapsulates the wide range of emotions, the push the pull, the torment and difficulty of what it's like to go through a breakup. Really really touched me.
+Leemastaflex going through the exact same thing right now.. broke up 3 days ago.. we both love each other but we couldn't make it work. Need to let it go to try and start to feel happy again.
The thing I love about Contemporary Dance (perhaps dance in general) when it is done like this is that it is a reflection of pure trust and expression. These two I actually believe are acting out James' lyrics in a living story. That is perhaps the best compliment I can give to the choreography and the dancers. I keep coming back to watch it again xo.
Yep it's the most powerful way to show what you hear
They are like magnets of the same pole
They cant get too close without pushing eachother away
Idk how ur comment doesn't have a lot of likes ...it's so true
What a beautiful interpretation of the song, this was truly a joy to watch!
+SoulPancake Thanks so much for sharing! Feels for the soul...#DanceonJamesBay
THANK YOU for all the support around this video and these amazing artists, Talia, Chaz, Courtney and Tim. Choreographers and dancers can be perceived as a secondary part in a performance, but we're so happy this story showcased beautiful art and talent as the primary subject. A performance like this really conveys powerful emotions, that many of us can relate to. We're so glad that this has resonated with so many people. This is what makes us human, art that makes us feel.
Earlier this week, Talia Favia, the choreographer was interviewed by The Huffington Post. We wanted to also share with you her response.
"I wanted to show people all the emotions you feel when you're about to end something that was once very special: sadness, anger, confusion, doubt and finally, relief," she said. The fact that Buzan, a principal lead dancer for Madonna, is also Favia's boyfriend added another complicated, emotional layer to the whole experience. "There were moments where I was thinking, 'What if I were to lose him? What if this were to happen to us?'" she said. "I definitely pulled from that a lot during the creation process," she said.
Share the feels,
#DanceOnJamesBay

@@dylan5108 most motivating phrase I heard all day
Fuckin learn then
Can't get over the part at 2:40 when she points finger his way but he shoves it towards her and the blow she felt after it. Her expressions at 2:28 were so powerful. Also the way he broke away when she clung to his leg.
The way she points at him and he turns it back to her 😢 such a strong meaning
I'm absolutely obssesed with this! Also her shorts are really cute
You only care about the short
????
who said she cares only about it?
She said "ALSO her shorts..." which implies that she likes the previous
Yakiah Serrano she literally said ALSO so when is that all she cared about??
I am 1 TRILLION percent obsessed with this!

I'm not into watching dance videos, but man this was phenomenal. From the start to the end I was totally engulfed by the emotions and moves these two portrayed. Job well done.
same! I'm speechless
mee too
Can anyone tell me what kind of dance this is or style is it considered ballet or what?
it's definitely not ballet.. more contemporary or lyrical work (:
Grace Dunham I searched contemporary dance, and found this as a listing. ✌🏻💜💃🏻

motivatemyself this is what reminded of why I became a dancer
Everytime I see videos like this i wish I could have the opportunity to learn that.
Being a dancer takes a lot of work and practice, trust me 😂
1:57 this is so beautiful and that was my fav part! i love dance and drama and this choreography and the way the dancers portrayed the emotions is spot on. love it. can't stop watching!😍
2 :17-2:19...oof❤❤❤
The emotion. The execution. This made me so emotional. I love this choreography so much!
I definitely can appreciate the work that went into this piece. The dancers showed great chemistry, vulnerability and passion. Quality wise, the direction and editing by Tim Milgram was, and always is, incredible.

After about 2.5 years later. I still watch this video but it has a deeper meaning to me. It used to be about a break up. An emotionally abusive relationship that hurt me so badly. But now I can say that I am happy. I’m healed. And this song and dance is about the forgiveness I have in my heart now. Thank you for the creators of this video where I have watched this and cried over and over again to release that pain. You got me through more than you can imagine with this art. Thank you.
This is probably my favorite expression of modern dance. It's a painfully beautiful song, the choreography is impeccable and captured the meaning of the lyrics better than the lyrics themselves, and the dancers' execution is as close to perfection as is possible. It doesn't hurt that Courtney is absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for all the love guys! #aboutToHit1Million!!!
+Tim Milgram #teamwork :)
A big thank you to Ashton Kutcher for sharing this video on his Facebook page. I never would have seen it otherwise and that makes me sad since this performance was so emotional and beautiful. I got chills more than 5 times during this routine. Amazing!!
this needs to be the official music video for this song!
+Arya Vigeh It's the unofficial official video ;)
+DanceOn You. Don't. Say.
Holy hell.. the choreography really hit me in a spot it shouldn’t. I just recently went through a break up.. and just damn.
I hope you are okay 💛
Oh my gosh. Fell in love with Courtney Schwartz watching her do ‘Rome’. Little did I know I’d actually seen her before. Gosh she looks different with straightened hair
This isn't long enough. I need it to continue on!
This is absolutely breathtaking.
Yeaaa ryt
That precision, that emotion, that choreografie - it's just so awe inspiring and beautiful at the same time!
That man dances like a god lol especially at 2:30 I swear he's just so freaking graceful
Essa coreo me toca profundamente, é tão expressiva que praticamente verbaliza o que quer passar.
Concordo plenamente!
Awe , this dance is so emotional , I cried tbh, it's so emotional good job❤️, I'm a lyrical dancer too but I never show anybody that I can dance, I dance when I'm alone and dance my emotions, that's one thing I love about lyrical you can show ur true emotions
Brooke Ross same I thought I was the only one
Brooke Rosss this inspires me somehow ty
me to i show my mom webs for teams ans shes says cool then lets it go no one takes it good
Brooke Ross same everyone think I dance bad but I never try to dance in front of them
Brooke Ross Don't be frightened to show people what you can do. You have talent. I'm also a dancer and I have been since I was 3, nothing is better than showing people what you can do and people liking it for the talent that you have. 10 years of dance and yes I still worry about showing people but ik that I dance for me and people will love it. Dance is an art, express yourself.
The story behind this is beautiful...
Really needed something like this. I just got out of an abusive relationship and I've been struggling a lot with feeling like I deserved every bit of what he gave me. This video, for me anyways, kind of illustrates what I've been going through. For the longest time I was his puppet constantly throwing myself back at him, because no matter how much he hurt me he told me he loved me. And now that he's gone it's hard to relinquish the hold he has over me. I was scared for far too long and this helps me see that I have to release it.
I hope you are stronger and healed. Sending love xx
The SWEET and the SAD, the PUSH and the PULL, the COME HERE and GOODBYE... WOW... that was a masterpiece!
I cried watching this. It is honestly the most emotional and passionate choreography I’ve ever seen
Absolutely beautiful, touching and heartbreaking. Amazing choreography and incredible dancers showing real emotion. I had been in a 4 year relationship with a lot of fighting and abuse, but just couldn't let him go even though I knew the relationship was mentally and physically destroying me I would beg HIM not to leave. I don't like to speak about this so publicly, but that's what I felt watching this video (esp. around 2:04). For anyone in a toxic relationship, as hard as it may feel while you're in it, it can and WILL get better (trust me I never thought it could). Bravo and thank you to the choreographer and dancers and everyone else who made this
Beautiful work! and really love the camera work Tim Milgram!
+RPProductions Thank you!!
This is by far the most incredible dance I have ever seen
+Tamzin Williams this moved us too! thanks for watching, check out the other incredible dancers from DanceOn too!
This called me untalented in 63 languages, 25 fonts, and by email and text.
Yeah same 😂
I got a phone call about it too
@@byun.x.kkaebsong I love your name :)
@@jungwcnz thank you! :)
😂😂
I love the detail at the beginning. For one to stand, the other needs to fall. Something that quiet often can happen in a relationship. Amazing interpretation and keeps me coming back to watch it.
Kinda scared me when he opened her mouth but damn, this is amazing!!!
KyuunRin Lee yes you should feel like this...they want you to feel it
I was the 100th like. Totally unnecessary but thought u should know
I was the 800th.
Anyone else noticing how perfectly toned her legs are omg
That girl is INSANE!
FlowerKitten Productions thank you! I was waiting for someone to say that you are awesome!
The way that this was choreographed and executed is absolutely phenomenal. You can see the guys anger in his actions, his frustrations, and his eagerness for it to be over, yet at the same time it’s hard for him to leave. And you can see the brokenness if the girl, at points she’s just needy. She feels like she needs him, and he wants her to know she doesn’t. At times they’re pushing each other, and it almost seems like they hate each other, but then you can see how much that anger is destroying their relationship. It’s just so brilliant! Excellent dance!
2:09 made me cry WOW dance as an art form can elicit so many emotions whOO
There are no words to describe how incredible this was
i was soooo mesmerized by the girl, her expression's were on point!!
This is amazing! Choreography and dancers are insanely beautiful. Complimenting the song and lyrics so perfectly, you can see its about a breakup but theres no bias point of view, the struggle is mutual and you almost feel helpless watching them break.
+Katherine Escajadillo Hi Katherine, thanks for watching! check out the other James Bay videos from our dancers too!
I really felt the tension between the two dancers, I could feel the break up, tear apart feeling. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a job done right.
Kudos, both of you
Something about the girls eyes in this legitimately enchanting I can see her living the story because she’s so in it.
there's no part of this dance routine that I am not in love with. Didn't know you could love a choreo that breaks your heart so immensely.
the 1 million views you guys got are from me because the amount of times i watched this
+Kaitlyn Dang thanks so much! feel free to subscribe for more
+DanceOn I'm afraid it is also because of me guys, your job is so amazing! Do it again, please!
+Kaitlyn Dang same 😂
+Kaitlyn Dang I was just about to write the same thing :D
SAME
just watched this ten times in a row and I'll watch it ten times more... I've never seen such a breathtaking choreo before! Epic dancers and perfect filming, this deserves 20 million views at least.
It is hard to feel like anyone who put the work in will notice this two years later. The lyrics, and especially the choreography describe the relationship I find myself. Please realize your work is both beautiful and appreciate. i was close to tears from just a 3 minute video on the internet..
The human body really is an extraordinary piece of art, not because of the way we are built, but by the way we make use of it and how we are able to tell a story so powerful through our bodies. Truly a beautiful dance ❤️
can we just take a moment to appreciate the part where they're pointing. she points the finger at him and he dodges the blame. he shoves her hand so that the finger is now pointing at her. and that's what destroys her.
That's one of the best (worst) parts. It's so heartbreaking yet beautiful at the same time how elegantly they were able to capture that. If you've ever been in a relationship, you know all too well that game.
I love how Courtney (the girl dancer) has shock and hurt every time he makes it come around to her. she really portrayed the emotions spot on!
+Olivia Parrott Could mean she's at fault for him wanting to leave. Could be him pointing out the fact it's also not all his fault she needs to look at herself. Of course you being a woman want to completely blame him for all of it. Let's not forget this is a man's song singing about wanting to part ways with a girl who just won't let go.
+Driden she doesn't mean that. Of course it's not completely his fault but it's not completely her fault either. They both blame each other.
+Driden Pretty sure her point was that until that moment, the girl is so busy blaming him and clinging to try to fix the relationship on that basis, that she never accepts any responsibility for her part. In that moment, she does. And it is a painful moment.
incredible!! i did a report on this dance for my english paper and had so much to say about it! so amazing and beautiful. full of emotions
Ever since I first heard this song, I was dying to see a contemporary choreo!! So happy about this :)
+Amy Tanaka Thanks for watching Amy! Check out the other pieces on DanceOn to James Bay as well!
More than 2 years, and I'm still so in love with this piece, the emotion, the dancers, the choreography, the decor, the clothing, the camera work, EV-RY-THING !
Sandra Leck Me too!
This was literally the best emotional story telling choreographed dance that I have EVER seen!!! This is absolutely beyond beautiful you guys are an amazing job! ❤️ Thank you I watched it so many times!
I just spent the weekend dancing with Chaz, Talia, and Courtney at Radix and they are all so talented and they inspire me so much
It’s the passion and emotion performed through the choreography that makes a true dancer.
the girl’s arch in her foot is beautiful omg ! i can tell she’s an amazing dancer and works very hard to be the dancer she is 😻
I'm 16 and I've always loved dancing. People have told me that I may have a natural talent for it but when my mother offered to take me to classes at the age of 12 I thought it was to late and all my self doubt and anxiety stood in my way. I decided not to try it and I really regret it. Especially after seeing talented dancers like this it really shows me what I'm missing out.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the precision in their moves.. especially the girl is so sharp in her moves well done guys..
such a powerful chereography I'm crying so hard ugh
Here because Ten and Winwin watched it in their Rainbow V episode. This dance is so beautiful!!! They've definitely looked in the right place for inspiration
Yous two are amazing!!! I love your choreo
Same!
Absolutely beautiful and so horrible at the same time! Breakups are never easy. This shows the struggle of wanting something and it just not being the right thing. Kuddos to the dancers and choreographers!
This is beautiful. It may just be a story, but the emotion on their faces is so raw and real that i could feel it. Amazing.
There is no such thing as watching this video too many times.....Absolutely amazing
This is one of the best choreography I’ve ever seen! The dancers are amazing as well, I cried just watching them dance.
this is absolutely heartbreaking and spot on a - a beautiful sad story.
watched this in school today and cried.. thank god the lights were dimmed :))
sometimes I find it hard to understand the story behind most contemporary dances but this one is amazing because I can understand it every detail too, from the guy pushing the girl away then him coming in close again I can identify what every move of the dance symbolises in a troubled relationship and this dance is what makes me realise how important it is not to give up on my dream of becoming a dancer
oh my god this was so beautiful
I found this video today! and I've seen it 3 times already!! it's really beautiful, love the connection they have!!
👌 amazing job!!

Your English is really good, no need to be sorry! :D
+lade2rex ^__^ thanks!
your English is good
2:05-2:20 gave me chills, so good bravo 👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Their connection is unreal... o.o They are so in sync, working so well together o.o
Courtney, Chaz, Talia, and Tim:
I'm a fan of this lyrical dance video genre and this is among the best I've seen. The choreo, the dancers' fluidity and expressiveness, the high-production values of cinematography and editing choices are all top shelf. This is fine art in every aspect.
I'm a long-time fan of Tim's excellent film/video work with dancers at LA Millennium and this may be one his best. In the last shot, the way the dust continues to swirl in the window is just sublime -- kicked up by the energy of all that movement and expression in stark contrast to the characters' suddenly quiet isolation.
whoever choreographed this has an amazing talent
This choreo is art in the making I loved it
For a dance with so many complicated moves, it's easy to understand every expression the art tries to communicate, kudos.
TALIA FAVIA I DONT REALY KNOW YOU BUT YOUR ART JUST MADE ME CRY. THAT WAS SO POWERFUL. thank you
I have no words for that 😱😱😍😍 congratulations
Ammazing... this should be the official music video
LOVE IT
I love how it shows the violence and physical impact a breakup has - even when you only breakup with words. I would want to show this to our divorce clients. Imagine to be their child and witnessing all this.
I love this beautiful art peice. Im watching this over and over, the experience watching is amazing everytime.
One of my favorite songs. It’s so beautiful. This couple does this song so well. It tells a story truly. It’s story. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Honestly? One of the most beautiful videos I've seen in awhile. The fluency in their movements, the subtleties in their expressions, etc. It's all very emotional, and merely took my breath away to watch.
To this video I give one heck of a bravo!
I have watched this so many times. Still the best contemporary dance for this song. And still the best contemporary dance music video I have watched.
1st time a dance makes me cry with goosebumps everywhere!! this was BEAUTIFUL ♡
Absolutely incredible!!! Felt so much from the choreography that I broke down in tears... Not only tears of pain, but tears of passion and love as well!!!
2:08 wow just wow.. the emotion, the dancing
BEAUTIFUL ❤️.
