The ironic thing is they can make more money with a single player game cause there cheaper too make than a live services which cost more money and complexity than a 10 to 40 hours game.
But they're not complex at all. Just the network infrastructure and databases in the background probably are. The game themselves usually are lacking any depth
@TheUltimateHacker007 That's what I wonder, they must have put some work into the story and depth to the game, up to the rest of the year at least so they can release seasons and what not. Which is probably why it always feels empty, because they made a whole story already, they just gave you the first levels at most. To see the rest of the game and story you have to wait for months
The unfortunate truth is that one successful live service game pays for many failed ones. That's why they're swinging for the fences. If they can just land one they'll be set for a long time. It's a sad time for the industry.
Mostly, all they have to do, from that executive level anyway, is stay out of it. Let the studios make what they want. This is how Larian made BG3, Guerilla made Horizon, Naughty Dog made Last of Us. Many other examples. In the case of live service games, it's also how we ended up with Helldivers. They just made what they wanted, and the added a little friendly microtransactions to help the game be a live service game, but it didn't have any of that "we must charge so much that we can make billions" mentality that ruins live service games for everyone. Just let the devs make what they want. You'll get better games. You'll sometimes get so-so games, but you'll get far fewer Suicide Squads while simultaneously killing one of your best studios.
@Samherbe954 and that's practically all AAA studios, pure greed 💰 if I need to pay money to buy a wand design, pet, or clothing I will be pissed. If suicide squad was anything to go by that's how it will be.

How many live service games does the average gamer play? One or maybe two. Like what is the endgame? It seems so shortsighted and driven by greed.
I’ve read all the Harry Potter Books, watch all the movies and I’ve seen the live stage production. I haven’t played Hogwarts Legacy and it’s not on my radar. Does this make me a hardcore fan?
To be honest, I think a large of the gaming population IS willing to buy any content from their favorite franchise. I try to remind myself that for every Luke Stephens, there are 9 other casual gamers who dont even really know what live service means.
Luke: "There is no way they are so stupid to not be aware the core reason Hogwarts was successful" - QUE THE SPONGEBOB 3 HOURS LATER SIGN - Warner Bros. Discovery head of gaming J.B. Perrette doubles down again (triples down?) on live service declaring Hogwarts a fluke. Not Luke's fault at all, he does very thoughtful analysis and I totally would have agreed with him. Strange times...
They are literally doing the opposite of the success and profit they got from HL last year. It’s like what the heck are they even in these high positions for if they making dumb decisions like this. They have their own game in Suicide Squad that is a prime example that customers don’t want those types of games.
I think everyone is kind of mistaken. Imagine if Hogwarts Legacy became a platform and they continually release story DLC instead of coming out with Hogwarts Legacy 2.
How is this only now just clicking? This isn't new info, it was blatantly obvious this means Hogwarts Legacy as well I think they also basically spelled it out that it could have been monetized a lot more on-top of the huge sales it made. Honestly what rock have you been under for this just to click now?
hogwarts mmo?....i mean im down, we have to acknowledge that games being live service is not what we hate about them, it's the predatory practices to milk their playerbase as well as poor lazy gameplay. If a game is good enough and not predatory enough we will praise it even if it is a live service game, helldivers 2 is a testament to that.
Try Garry’s mod Harry Potter then. if they include multiplayer in HL2, that’s a lot of time being taken out of development that could go into other new features.
@@coreymckee4844 too bad it won’t be (thankfully) I’m just hoping it’s not like suicide squad and is like Helldivers 2. A great multiplayer game is always better than a great singleplayer game
Let’s not pretend HL doesn’t already include many live services style features and gameplay. They probably decided to go strictly single player at some point during production.
No it doesn’t what are you talking about? Also from the very beginning since it was talked about since 2018 the plan was always to make it single player.
A hogwarts game where you do classes and roam the castle with friends, maybe could play quidditch online against others and earn house points by doing tasks would be fun.i mean I'm not sure how they would monetize it and that definitely gonna be what makes or breaks that. But if you attached that online to hogwarts legacy 2 you could have a stew going. Also if just doing live service then make game free to play, especially if it's always online.
Also maybe make it more relaxed like playstationhome where you can talk to people and the classes are minigames like transfiguration could be a variation of prophunt. Servers would be packed for a yule ball I bet
what sad is do they even play test their game in the middle of making it ? its one thing to have bugs but if the game are just broken / boring why continue wasting money ? smh
Might? MIGHT???!!!!! Warner's full attention is now on it and all they can possibly do now is mess it up. That's the WB way. That's why they've been merged, bought, and sold off for the last 25 years. It's a horribly run company.
I just want them to continue making "Hogwarts Legacy single-player games", AND, developed at the same time I want an actual, huge, Harry Potter MMORPG which would (obviously) become "the" HP live-service game (surprise: live-service games have existed since the early 90s, the only ones where it's a bad idea are when it's tried on a solo story-driven game). They could literally make billions every year with a game like that, and still develop interesting single-player games at the same time. This game could last 15+ years and they could add new content, areas to explore, story content, expansions, etc, for years... The Harry Potter franchise is absolutely the biggest missed opportunity when it comes to MMORPGs, I have wanted that for years, and the most frustrating part is that on top of it having a huge potential in sales/number of players, it's literally the SIMPLEST universe to adapt into this game genre (PvP factions --> 4 Houses, PvP gameplay --> wand duels & Quidditch, transmog outfits --> magic, Guild Halls --> Room of Requirements, Seasonal Events --> existing lore, pets/mounts --> fantastic beasts, Raids/Dungeons --> Forbidden Forest & Azkaban etc, Expansions --> school years 1-7, etc etc etc...). I am 100% sure this could easily become one of the most played multiplayer games, and fans would spend billions $ just to get silly cosmetics, mounts, etc. It's such an obvious concept (if WB dares to take a long time letting a team develop it, of course).
But to me suicide squad is a narrative experience with live service elements. They were being real . They were trying to steer the hype ship because people were sooooooo pissed to hear love service. I was disappointed. But it's a fun game to me. The combat flow for each character is great. I switch back n forth between everyone.
It wast that bad also it’s getting more content i don’t get why people bitch about live service and want a single player story base game when they usually come with DLC that they gotta pay for all the seasons and content coming with ssktjl is going to be free like i don’t get the hate or the statement they trying to get money out of us that people love to say also ssktjl is really fun if you try to build your character and min / max what each character can actually do but yet people love helldivers 2 because it’s 40 dollars with no story doing the same thing fighting the same two enemies types that you actually have to play with others and have a great squad to even try the harder difficulty 🤦♂️🤦♂️
@billwalker1000 I totally agree helldivers is fun but it is sooo soo repetitive. No story. U Have to play with people to level up at a good pace. Same two enemies and just recycled objectives. I will always stand up for ssktjl cause rocksteady needs support still. And the game really has a cool story imo.
I feel like live service is such a risky action to take. Like I understand they want a steady income and there are die hard fans of certain franchises you can bet on as a customer. But there are a ton of drawbacks to that, which us that die hard fans are going to be tough critics on all of it. Let alone that the team is constantly going to be working on it and working on storylines/seasons and making, etc. So you have constant man power and money going into this thing on the hope that you keep fans happy enough to invest back.
Honestly if it was a live service game I actually think it could be succesful however what they should do is add an online mode to legacy to test it out and see what people want. I also dont mind a live service game for harry potter if they add a school system and jobs, quidditch and all the things that arent in hogwarts legacy it could work because it would be similar to gta rp
Oh 100% they struck lightning with Hogwarts Legacy and some higher up or lead is gonna think they can do whatever they want and it will sell. I have no hope with video games until I see reviews. If the second one sucks I’ll be okay replaying the first one.
How often I was told, that I am not a true fan because I critequed a movie or game negative. No this "fan" (or super fan) thing is not just a stinking head. The whole body is rotten. There are people out there who happiely lick the boot, the perfect PR victims. Just because they dont have a real sense of comunity.
gimme hogwarts legacy online, aka gta online but in hogwarts, should be able to interact with all the ai, if i want to leviosa some mf into a wall lemme do that.
Well if they do go the abysmal way that they are stating and ruin there company and IP's then at least we have the original Hogwarts Legacy that they can't ruin right. Future Hogwarts legacy games could suffer a lot from this. I cannot make this make sense when they deliver a single player game that becomes the best selling game of 2023 and then bring a live service game that flops in days. Just to double down on live service... Huh? Absolutely braindead and out of touch to no extent.
They made a lot of money off a very mediocre game before, they'd be silly to mess that up, imagine if Hogwarts had been more than a mid Ubisoft clone with a Harry Potter skin.
I really enjoyed Hogwarts legacy 1, it was an unexpected gem when it released. Too bad these gems now just spark greed in the developers eyes, skull and bones is a good example as it was a complete let down and disappointment compared to black flag.
Hogwarts Legacy was the perfect game for being live service. Its famous franchise, people would buy no matter what they could do each season one season in the game, like season 1 spring, season 2 summer, season 3 fall, season 4 winter and have specific and even longer story missions for each seasons... i think in this game would not be bad idea for a business point of view... but im glad they didnt and i hope they dont be that stupid for the next indeed
It's a blatantly bad buisness move. There has to be cuts somewhere otherwise the cost of development would drive up the amount of users needed to be considered a 'Success' you cannot get the quality of HL in a live service. It will be a different game wearing its skin.
I pre ordered hogwarts legacy because it WASN'T a live service and only single player with no microtransactions and wanted to support them. If they do a live service with the sequel I'm not interested in even buying it 🤷♂️
the first game was decent but not great, i dont see myself replaying that game any time soon so if they do another year they are really gonna have to step it up

I bought mk1 day 1, and my conclusion is: i'll problably skip the next nrs games for now on, if they have the same vibe
Not the engagement they wanted i guess 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
I’ve read all the Harry Potter Books, watch all the movies and I’ve seen the live stage production. I haven’t played Hogwarts Legacy and it’s not on my radar. Does this make me a hardcore fan?
Could be they were referring to that quidditch game
To be honest, I think a large of the gaming population IS willing to buy any content from their favorite franchise. I try to remind myself that for every Luke Stephens, there are 9 other casual gamers who dont even really know what live service means.
Let's just not buy Live service games. Because they'll start Giving us more Avengers and Suicide Squad games. We really don't want those.
1 minute in and I think Warner bros have just completely ignored the downfall of microtransactions and live service games
Gaming in 2024 “ how many different ways can we and how many things can we cry and complain about, nothing is good enough!!!”
Imagine if Hogwarts Legacy became a platform and they continually release story DLC instead of coming out with Hogwarts Legacy 2.
but it's good that there are already existing harry potter mobile games
To be fair, EA lies to gamers about all their games and somehow people keep paying for them 🤷♂️
Titanfall 2 is such an unsung masterpiece of a FPS game that EA moronically botched
Gamers let’s make a stand, boycott AAA games!!
How is this only now just clicking? This isn't new info, it was blatantly obvious this means Hogwarts Legacy as well I think they also basically spelled it out that it could have been monetized a lot more on-top of the huge sales it made. Honestly what rock have you been under for this just to click now?
Well said Luke
hogwarts mmo?....i mean im down, we have to acknowledge that games being live service is not what we hate about them, it's the predatory practices to milk their playerbase as well as poor lazy gameplay. If a game is good enough and not predatory enough we will praise it even if it is a live service game, helldivers 2 is a testament to that.
What do I gota do to get a high budget matrix game from WB
The only thing I want is an online mode or co op mode at least. But I want to be able to attend classes and go on adventurers with other players.
Try Garry’s mod Harry Potter then. if they include multiplayer in HL2, that’s a lot of time being taken out of development that could go into other new features.
No p*ss off with that crap. HL needs to stay singleplayer!
?? What lol
Let's hope it stays single player or allows co op, anything past that will be cringe
Did they not just learn from SSKJL? 😅
I can't wait to see the shit show that the Wonder Woman game by Monolith will be.
Hope the failure of suicide squad deters them a bit
😂 I guess if it’s bad it’ll be Hogfarts Legacy
How often I was told, that I am not a true fan because I critequed a movie or game negative. No this "fan" (or super fan) thing is not just a stinking head. The whole body is rotten. There are people out there who happiely lick the boot, the perfect PR victims. Just because they dont have a real sense of comunity.
gimme hogwarts legacy online, aka gta online but in hogwarts, should be able to interact with all the ai, if i want to leviosa some mf into a wall lemme do that.
More like gta rp. Gta online is just chaos and boring.
Suicide Live service game haha. That sounds very 1984/Brave New World
Well if they do go the abysmal way that they are stating and ruin there company and IP's then at least we have the original Hogwarts Legacy that they can't ruin right. Future Hogwarts legacy games could suffer a lot from this. I cannot make this make sense when they deliver a single player game that becomes the best selling game of 2023 and then bring a live service game that flops in days. Just to double down on live service... Huh? Absolutely braindead and out of touch to no extent.
Oh, they can be that stupid...
People will be expecting a better game IP won’t carry a second game
Oh boy, I can’t wait for “Hogwarts Awkward Bartender Voice” part 2. So immersive hearing a woman sound like a man.
When this idea failed and the games produced based on this mindset flop, guess who are going to be fire.
Hogwarts Legacy was the perfect game for being live service.
Its famous franchise, people would buy no matter what
they could do each season one season in the game, like season 1 spring, season 2 summer, season 3 fall, season 4 winter
and have specific and even longer story missions for each seasons...
i think in this game would not be bad idea for a business point of view...
but im glad they didnt and i hope they dont be that stupid for the next indeed
It's a blatantly bad buisness move. There has to be cuts somewhere otherwise the cost of development would drive up the amount of users needed to be considered a 'Success'
you cannot get the quality of HL in a live service. It will be a different game wearing its skin.
@BlueBD Agreed, keep it single player gold maybe small scale co op first
Bro you are extremely naive to think "more online games" doesn't mean every damn thing they gonna put out!!! Thought u smarter than that!!!💯💯💯
Slow news day?
…..*sigh* god damnit
Please don't make hwl2 live service !
HL would have been incredible as a co op live service game
I pre ordered hogwarts legacy because it WASN'T a live service and only single player with no microtransactions and wanted to support them. If they do a live service with the sequel I'm not interested in even buying it 🤷♂️
the first game was decent but not great, i dont see myself replaying that game any time soon so if they do another year they are really gonna have to step it up
NO!! Just NO😡
He forgets that MK1 has been hemorrhaging since launch because they fuck it up after every turn
Why would you worry about hogwarts legacy 2? There will be no hogwarts legacy 2. There will be Hogwarts The Legacy Online. Enjoy
EA tried that and it flopped. Zaslav was foolish to think he could succeed. They try it will Harry Potter they will fail.
We want life sevries games but we want them to be good and varied
