I'm not interested in poetry, persay, but I'm interested in most of the things you talk about so I'd love to hear about the background, writing, and publication process of your anthology. Also, congrats on your up coming publication!!
I am certainly one of those people who falls into the "I don't like poetry" bucket... but I want to learn! Allllll the poetry content, please! And congrats! Excited for you 🎉
I picked up The City We Became by N.K Jemisin on a whim and holy heck I'm only halfway through but I'm enjoying it so much, I'm so surprised I haven't seen more people talking about it!? It's set in present day New York, and a mysterious eldritch tentacle monster is basically waging a war on New York, and the only thing that can stop it are a group of new yorkers that embody each district (so like Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhatten etc and each characters). Its weird and fun but also N.K Jemisin has an incredible writing style. Also the character diversity and quality of the representation is wonderful to see!
I'm so happy Piranesi won the Women's Prize! I'm currently reading Wuthering Heights for the first time (what a treat) and Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers for my book club. Next on the list will be How to Break Up with Fast Fashion by Lauren Bravo 😊
Yes, she TOTALLY deserved it, that book should be on curriculums. Confession time: I've NEVER read Wuthering Heights, I couldn't even confidently tell you the plot line. Let me know if it's worth it ;)
Just to add another big chonk to your list - The book of Trespass - a mixture of nature writing, illustration, and a deconstruction of the invention of private property/ our right to roam. I'm only 1/4 of the way through but I'm finding it so interesting.
THANK YOU! You made my day! I saw this at midnight while I was drunk at a house party and I won't lie, I started watching this in the middle of the party and then I stopped myself because I was like no, I actually want the rest of your recommendations so I need to remember this and save this. I originally started following you for the book recommendations, and then stayed for SO MUCH MORE! I mean the fact I made it into one is mindboggling. Love you, thank you xxx
When your poetry collection comes out, you should do a video of you reading some of your favorites! (Perhaps in different locations that are somewhat related to the theme of each poem?)
Together or separately with this, you could also talk about the inspirations behind these poems and some of the author/publishing decisions about how they were written or made it into the book.
I was on a road trip recently and made my way through the first three Harry Potters. I also read Doughnut Economics and it was mind blowing, and something that I think would be totally up your (Leena's) alley. It was all the things I ever wanted to shout in an economics class but well thought out and researched. Just so much dismantling of harmful economic assumptions and trying to conceptualize how we get back to living within the ecological confines of our earth.
Ohh poetry action. Nice nice nice. I’d watch whatever on it. I don’t know what I want, specifically. I’m easy. Recent reads I’ve loved: Ducks, Newburyport, new Rooney, Underland, Once There Were Wolves.
I've definitely been watching too much UNHhhh, because when you were talking about being a huge fan I more than half expected a huge fan (ventilator) to pop up on the screen 😂
I met you years ago Leena at a booktube event in a bookshop in London and I have just loved following your journey! Major congratulations on your poetry collection! Incredible news. Cannot wait to read it!! The Heart Principle sounds really good. Been so into rom coms lately.
I think I'm spesking for everyone (not really I have no idea) when I say we would LOVE to watch a video about your poetry writing/poetry publishing journey!
I haven't been reading much over the summer sadly because of school and the last year of school is fucking hard! But a phantasy book I read was 'Lore' by Alexandra Bracken. It is an amazing standalone book with greek mythology in the modern world, trauma, identity, belonging, traditions and rewriting myths with a feminist twist. It reminded me a lot of Percy Jackson (obviously) but its more grown up, darker in some places and addresses deep issues beautifully. Also it's fast paced with a lot of cliff hangers at the end of chapters. Loved it and want to reread it some time soon. Thank you for your videos Leena, they are a bright light in my days❤️❤️❤️❤️. PS I WANT TO HEAR EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR POETRY!!! Maybe about your writing process, inspiration and in general how it was writing them? Also maybe how it was for you to see the publishing industry from the point of view of the author now?
I'm a new convert to Storygraph (thanks to your videos and a recommendation from a friend)! Two books that I read and loved this year are 'An Unkindness of Ghosts' by Rivers Solomon and 'heart berries' by Therese Marie Mailhot. Two series that I've been loving lately are The Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers, and the Trickster series by Eden Robinson
Black and Brtish sounds really interesting but long non fiction books are really daunting to me. I bought Let the Record Show after seeing a til took about it not know that it's 601 pages.
Your comments at the beginning of the video worry me. My favorite videos are still your bookish ones. Give us all the book videos! And yes, I want to hear about your poetry collection. In fact, I don't want you to shut up about it! 😂
I love your book videos. I love reading, but am super luxurious with it, reading only things that I want to (most recently, A Deadly Education which I LOVED) and (usually) don't challenge me, so your videos are helpful in reminding me that sometimes more difficult books can be really worth it.
The way you talked about the heart principle with a woman who is already established in her work made me think of a book I read right at the beginning of the year. It's called Pillow Talk by Freya North. It's not a new book by any means, but it honestly feels like it. A) the female lead is established in her work and is incredible at it. B) it says "absolutely not" to love being able to combat trauma. I really loved the way its like, love can't make you better, but it's good to have while you try to work through your issues
I always love hearing about what you're reading even though I have no interest in reading anything that falls under literary fiction or climate/politic non-fiction (I read for dragons, space and escapism). It's nice to listen to someone really passionate about what they're reading and learning, and hear about books I would never pick up the shelf.
I just started Split Tooth (2018) by Tanya Tagaq, a Canadian Inuit musician. This is her first book and it is supposed to be a coming-of-age novel that "moves effortless between fiction and memoir, myth and reality, poetry and prose", which sounds very fascinating to me.
love this video so much! i'm a sucker for stats and wrap ups. i was behind my goal of 100 books by like 7, and so I dropped my goal down to 80 and now i feel much better about myself lmao
Ha ha ha, that's funny. I m slightly behind now all of a sudden for my goal of reading only 60, not 100, books this year, but I think I can catch up again. I was way ahead, until June.
Thanks for the great recommendations! I've just ordered the Reading List and The Joy of Being Selfish and I can't wait to dive in! I've read all of Helen Hoang's books and as a neurodivergent person I can highly recommend them as great representation. Helen is autistic like her main characters and it's so encouraging to see autistic characters being portrayed with complexity and kindness. I believe her book The Kiss Quotient is being made into a film too!
So. I’ve read the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo three times in the span of a few months. I am OBSESSED with those books. I have never read anything like them. The handling of trauma and difficult themes is very sophisticated for a YA novel and I feel very seen by Leigh’s complex characters (no diss to YA, it’s my favourite genre).
Ahh, I love all your videos but the bookish ones do have a special place in my heart, so please do keep making them. I guess it’s a lovely credit to your own self and your time in publishing, you’re just so good at talking succinctly and interestingly about books. I also follow Michelle so the section on The Joy of Being Selfish made me especially happy 💜
everytime i watch your videos i just fall in love with the whole books and writing thing again you know like like the WHOLE thing you know you know what i mean like
always here for the book videos Leena🙌Currently reading If I Never Met You (Mhairi McFarlane), Rememberings (Sinead O'Connor) and The Lesson (Cadwell Turnbull)....struggling to read more non fiction but trying to not beat myself up about that! have a great weekend
Tell us all about the poetry please!! I hope it’ll be accessible for me to find/or order to Melbourne. For some reason poetry books just seem more physical-copy appropriate than ebook. I love your recommendations and I can’t wait to check out two worlds. I just finished reading Anna Karenina and it was brilliant but it was looong
I've been reading Helen Hoang's books, but have yet to read The Heart Principle. I felt so seen by the way she wrote about neurodivergence and autism in particular! Usually not into romance novels, but her books are just SO GOOD.
Rn on my bedside stand is _Without Getting Killed or Caught_ by Tamara Saviano, a biography of the Texan singer-songwriter Guy Clark. Bathroom reading is _The Last Castle_ by Laurie Kiernan, the story of the Biltmore estate. (tl:dr; One of the Vanderbilt railroad heirs built a copy of the Château de Chambord for himself in North Carolina in the 1890s. Today the estate is a museum owned by the Vanderbilt family foundation.)
Yes please do videos about putting together a poetry collection & all that entails, that would be so interesting!! Some of my favorite recent reads are: "Bellweather Rhapsody" (grand old hotel setting, murder mystery, musical geniuses), "Nives" (sharp, quirky novella about a recent widow who befriends a chicken to replace her husband & recounts her past with an old friend), and "The Devil and the Dark Water" (Big Sherlock Holmes vibes but on the high seas! From the author of "The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle").
Congrats on the collection! I echo the call for poetry content. But then again, I’m a poetry MFA student, so I’m probably more interested than most in the ways collections get published and what it’s like working with editors.
ooh the joy of being selfish sounds like just what i need. the murderous ape sounds like a good time. the last book i finished was the sword of kaigen, quite intense fantasy story about the impacts of war and has strong focus on family, so just trying to decide what to read next while also in the midst of starting a few books haha
First of all - I am so happy and excited about your new poetry collection! Last time I made the mistake to not pre-order your zine... and since then I am regularly checking out, if someone wants to sell it (but nobody seems to want your zine to leave their book shelf :) ) Second of all - I would be super interested in everything to do around this publication (from the process of writing up to the publication itself). I work in a scientific publishing house in Germany and try to publish my own novel, as well - so I am always up for that kind of content!
I was just read a super interesting thesis on how mending clothes relates to capitalism (qualatative research) - so enjoyable to read. Was thinking it would be right up your alley
I'm finishing The Future We Choose right now and I kept wondering if you'd read it! I absolutely loved the way it was set up with the two worlds section - it made me excited about the possibilities of the future we could have. just in general the way it's written takes the climate crisis from a hot cloud of doom to specific consequences, rewards, and actions.
My favorite books I've read over the summer have been Eartheater by Dolores Reyes and Out by Natsuo Kirino. Both pretty intense reads, so I'm simmering down with a middle grade book as the start of the school year approaches.
Currently I am reading as part of my 'read more European books' challenge after Brexit (amongst other things) Border, by Kapka Kassabova, it is a really insightful look at the refugee crisis from a very post-Communist perspective of Bulgaria and the Balkan collapse in the 80s and 90s. Unusually, it made me cry, I think because there were so many parallels with my family situation and hers, but because of the frustration of so many people wanting a better life and being crushed by borders. A lot of the dialogue around Brexit was about how dangerous uncontrolled immigration can be, so it was really striking to have someone discuss things from the polar opposite perspective.
I'm currently reading Rotherweird for my book club and have just finished Wuthering Heights for the same book club, but I was also very slowly reading Brave New World on the side for myself and have just finished that plus Be More Sloth from your recommendations. I finished 3 books in the space of 1 week which is insane for me given the pace that I usually read at. I couldn't believe how many books you manage to get through a month! I have so much on my tbr list and just dont have the pace to keep up!
i really did not like the kiss quotient by helen hoang, but so many people seem to love the heart principle that i might give it a shot anyway! i just read lonely castle in the mirror and it’s now the first book in a solid 10 years that i’m immediately rereading, so… highly recommend ✨
First, congrats on your poetry collection. I loved "Doom rolled in glitter" and hope that I can get your new one from my local bookshop here in Germany. I loved, loved, loved the "Reading List". I listened to it in August and found it heartwarming indeed. But I was so surprised by one event (I don't want to spoil it) that I was crying on my walk. Luckily, it was raining hard so I didn't meet anyone and my tears could have been mistaken for rain.
Great video! I always look out for your non fiction recs since you are so good at finding good ones! I am currently reading Story Genius by Lisa Cron, haven't finished it yet but I think it would be a great one for more than just writers to read.
Congratulations on the poetry, my good sir! I was wondering if you had read Howl’s Moving Castle, just cause it’s my favourite and I want everyone to feel its warmth.
I just binge watched all of your wrapups. In your Spring wrapup you mentioned you were reading Watchmen. Did you finish it? If so, what did you make of it? Would love to hear you talk about it (or just generally about Alan Moore). Also, if you liked The Future We Choose, I'd recommend Ministry for the future by Kim Stanley Robinson.
I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of your poetry collection ❤️ always love your book content! I’ve recently finished reading ‘Jog On’ by Bella Mackie which I saw in one of your other videos and I bloody loved it so much that it got me out running!! I’m currently reading ‘Period Power’ by Maisie Hill (slowly so I can take it all in), re reading the Series of Unfortunate Events books to feel that warm nostalgia and listening to the audiobook of ‘No One Is Talking About This’ to try something different 👌
Loved this video, and all your bookish videos. Exciting to hear that you liked The Heart Principle. Another romance that has a woman main character who discovers she is neurodivergent is Duke by Default by Alyssa Cole. It's a lovely, quick novel and was one of a few things that pushed me to better understand my own neurodivergency.
I would LOVE some poetry content!! Your writing process, the publishing process, anything and everything!! Love all your vids, Leena! Keep being amazing!
Leena! Been a watcher for a while but without commenting ever (I'll take this moment to say that you've really influenced my thinking in terms of attempting to live with less waste, and i love your energy in every vid!). Wondering if you've read "The Grace Year" and if you've talked about it in a video anywhere? I would love to hear your take on it, I only just got around to finishing it
I don't know if my mastery of the English language would allow me to completely get the nuances of your writing, but I'd like to hear about your poetry.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morganstern. I loved it so much, I ordered my own copy the minute I finished (it was a library book) and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.
Personally, your book videos are my favourite. I hope you continue to make them for many years!! xx
I will, never fear ;) x
I want to see ALL the poetry content!! Process, publishing, design, behind the scenes, launch...so excited for you and can't wait to preorder!
Aw thank you that means a lot! ;)
I came for the book videos. Stayed for your personality. Please don’t ever stop telling us about your reading life.
I'm not interested in poetry, persay, but I'm interested in most of the things you talk about so I'd love to hear about the background, writing, and publication process of your anthology. Also, congrats on your up coming publication!!

@@leenanorms will do!!
This has given me the push to finally get Sally Rooney's new book...can't believe I've waited this long!
I read The Future We Choose a couple months ago. It felt like a therapy session for people suffering from eco-anxiety (in the best possible way) 😬
You want me to describe my ideal Saturday evening? A cuppa, cake, and a new Leena video!
Lady in the Van was a really compelling movie. Maggie Smith really slays everything she touches! I love your content. :)
Ooo love this idea!
Yes we want to see all the poetry content!! Anything you want! Congratulations, so exciting! 💜
I was on a road trip recently and made my way through the first three Harry Potters. I also read Doughnut Economics and it was mind blowing, and something that I think would be totally up your (Leena's) alley. Recent reads I’ve loved: Ducks, Newburyport, new Rooney, Underland, Once There Were Wolves.
I'm going to have an absolute monstrous reading list for when my PhD is done - thanks Leena looking forward to the poetry collection!
I've definitely been watching too much UNHhhh, because when you were talking about being a huge fan I more than half expected a huge fan (ventilator) to pop up on the screen 😂
I love the murderer's ape too!!! I sometimes go back to it when I am in a reading slum!
I met you years ago Leena at a booktube event in a bookshop in London and I have just loved following your journey! Major congratulations on your poetry collection! Incredible news. Cannot wait to read it!! The Heart Principle sounds really good. Been so into rom coms lately.
Ah, the wretched hold the 9-to-5 has on us even in not work related ways. Amazing!
I adore this lamp in the background, and I really need it in my life!
Can't believe some people skip your book videos - they're so great! And what brought me to your channel in the first place. :)
Yes yes more poetry! I am one the people who are buying all the poetry books
Yes yes yes yes to poetry content! Tell us all! 😍
Please never stop doing book videos 🧡🥰
Black and Brtish sounds really interesting but long non fiction books are really daunting to me. I bought Let the Record Show after seeing a til took about it not know that it's 601 pages.
Yes to videos about your poetry collection ☺️
Been mostly reading the Booker longlist and am now turning to the new Rooney, the new Geoff, the new Whitehead…’it’s the season!
Would love to hear any and all things about your poetry book journey!! Also intrigued by your book club journal 😊
I love watching you talk about books 🤗
love this video so much! i'm a sucker for stats and wrap ups. i was behind my goal of 100 books by like 7, and so I dropped my goal down to 80 and now i feel much better about myself lmao
Ha ha ha, that's funny. I m slightly behind now all of a sudden for my goal of reading only 60, not 100, books this year, but I think I can catch up again. I was way ahead, until June.
I started reading Wintering yesterday and think it’s lovely so far. I just read Spoiler Alert, which was a great romcom.
LOVE THIS LOVE YAAAAAAA SO HAPPY WITH PIRANESI AND IM SO HAPPY U LOVE IT TOO!!!
I've started reading the discworld series recently and flew through the books I got my grubby little paws on
Thanks for the great recommendations!
I’m also autistic and love her books 💕
I love these wrap up videos, I’m so glad they’ve never fizzled out
the book videos are my fave!!!! my tbr is getting crazy long bc of this channel lol but it's worth it!!!
I wanna hear about your poetry! I really enjoyed Doom Rolled In Glitter and would definitely like to see more!
I would def be interested in behind-the-scenes poetry/publishing stuff! V v cool, congrats, I'm so excited to read your poems!
Yes to all the poetry content please!
So. I’ve read the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo three times in the span of a few months. I am OBSESSED with those books. I have never read anything like them. 100% yes to all the poetry content
Would absolutely love to see alllll the poetry content!!
I love all of your videos, but the book videos are always my favorites

I'd definitely love a video about the poetry collection and how it came about and was released etc!
everytime i watch your videos i just fall in love with the whole books and writing thing again you know like like the WHOLE thing you know you know what i mean like
These types of videos are my favourite!!
always here for the book videos Leena🙌Currently reading If I Never Met You (Mhairi McFarlane), Rememberings (Sinead O'Connor) and The Lesson (Cadwell Turnbull)....struggling to read more non fiction but trying to not beat myself up about that! have a great weekend
So excited you’re going to read Flight Behavior. I am sure you will love it. I just finished rereading. Can’t wait to hear your hot takes
Very much enjoyed this video! I’d love to see videos about your poetry
YES please all the poetry content NOW!!! Sincerely, a fellow poet
I love your content! I hate how many books I buy after I watch you though 😂 thank you so much for such lovely videos!
I've been reading Helen Hoang's books, but have yet to read The Heart Principle. I felt so seen by the way she wrote about neurodivergence and autism in particular! Usually not into romance novels, but her books are just SO GOOD.

I love your videos. I really aspire to start broadening my reading list as you have
i just started On Freedom (snagged a signed copy at Green Apple Books!) and i'm so excited to see that you enjoyed it
Yes please do videos about putting together a poetry collection & all that entails, that would be so interesting!!
I read The Reading List this month and absolutely loved it, so just readable and gripping
Please keep making book videos! I trust your opinions and they are how I found you!
Congrats on the collection! I echo the call for poetry content. But then again, I’m a poetry MFA student, so I’m probably more interested than most in the ways collections get published and what it’s like working with editors.
I can’t believe I had no idea you wrote poetry and am SO excited about your upcoming publication!!!! Just signed up for your newsletter 🥳🤓😇
ooh the joy of being selfish sounds like just what i need. the murderous ape sounds like a good time. the last book i finished was the sword of kaigen, quite intense fantasy story about the impacts of war and has strong focus on family, so just trying to decide what to read next while also in the midst of starting a few books haha
All aboard the book train! Choo effing choo indeed
First of all - I am so happy and excited about your new poetry collection!
Last time I made the mistake to not pre-order your zine... and since then I am regularly checking out, if someone wants to sell it (but nobody seems to want your zine to leave their book shelf :) )
Second of all - I would be super interested in everything to do around this publication (from the process of writing up to the publication itself). I work in a scientific publishing house in Germany and try to publish my own novel, as well - so I am always up for that kind of content!
I was just read a super interesting thesis on how mending clothes relates to capitalism (qualatative research) - so enjoyable to read. Was thinking it would be right up your alley
Hey that sounds so intriguing! Can you share the thesis title?
I'm finishing The Future We Choose right now and I kept wondering if you'd read it! I absolutely loved the way it was set up with the two worlds section - it made me excited about the possibilities of the future we could have. just in general the way it's written takes the climate crisis from a hot cloud of doom to specific consequences, rewards, and actions.
I'm currently reading Brother by David chiandry. I'm reading it for class and only just started so I hope I like it.
My favorite books I've read over the summer have been Eartheater by Dolores Reyes and Out by Natsuo Kirino. Both pretty intense reads, so I'm simmering down with a middle grade book as the start of the school year approaches.
Love the titles of both of your poetry collections! Amazzing!
A lot of the dialogue around Brexit was about how dangerous uncontrolled immigration can be, so it was really striking to have someone discuss things from the polar opposite perspective.
So grateful that you continue to do these reading wrap-ups! They're great for my reading life!
Also, if you liked The Future We Choose, I'd recommend Ministry for the future by Kim Stanley Robinson.
currently reading a thousand splendid suns. heart wrenching
I love all your videos! I think you’re starting to influence my reading habits too, which I appreciate!
Yes please more content on your poetry collection!!
I LOVE the book videos! 😊
Yess! I'd love nothing more than to get some behind the scenes series about your poetry. I really like your style when it comes to poetry. :)
