That last drop in the ravine is such a bonus. Everything looks like the ride is ending soon, heading back to the station. Then boom… the gods gift one more thrill.
It's one of the things that really elevates Apollo's Chariot for me. The airtime is not as strong as rides like Mako, Diamondback, Candymonium and Goliath but the layout is more varied and is more likely to catch you off guard. And I'd put a back row night ride on Apollo's Chariot up with any of those.
I remember riding this, brand new, in May of 1999. I was 12 years old, and there was NOTHING like this at the time. For many years, it was the only coaster my parents would ride, because they said it was smooth and never banged you up like so many coasters of the past. We rode it together during tropical storms, heat, you name it - it was the only coaster that made me so fond of roller coasters and caused the obsession I have today. After more than 200+ rides on it and 200+ other roller coasters, I can safely say this remains at the top for me. It's not nearly as daring as the ones that have come after it, but there's something to be said about the setting of the coaster in the VA forestry, its choreography, and simplicity that makes it truly special. This is the only coaster I have a framed poster of from 1999 when they were being sold for a brief time at the merch kiosk at BGW. While the poster is starting to fade over time, my love for this ride and the memories it has given me from then till now are truly unforgettable. What a ride - forever.
Aww my first hyper that I ever rode back in 2000, and I was OBSESSED. Not even just my first B&M hyper, but my first hyper ever - and as someone who loves drops more than anything, I couldn't get enough of this one. I've gotten back a handful of times over the years, most recently 2021, and even if it's not running as smoothly as it did 20+ years ago, I love this design. I love the pre-drop, which guarantees a better full drop from any seat in the train (though the back is best), and I love that terrain design where the drop sizes vary based on where you are in the valleys. If Peter Pan, Pirates and Haunted Mansion are the classic dark rides of Disney, then this needs to be the classic B&M hyper of all time. Yes, there are better ones, but let's preserve the original!
I just went to BGW for the first time last week and this was closed. Thanks for having a new video of it I just watched the POV and pretended like I rode it.
One of my favorite coaster memories was rushing to this coaster after rope drop and the people ahead of us had to stop and drop off their bags. We rode front row with nobody else on the ride!
As a teen, I rode this like nothing. As an adult, the first drop is faster n higher then I remember lol in terms of length, air time, n smoothness though, this is one of my favorites.
I love this ride more than most people. I find the awesome setting, excellent night ride and more varied layout help it compared to other B&M hypercoasters (though it's certainly not my favorite B&M hypercoaster.) Front row POVs on this thing are fun to watch but this is such a backrow ride that the POVs always seem odd to me.
Wish more new B&M hypers would incorporate a twisted drop like AC’s third - most of the new ones are straight drop after straight drop after straight drop…
This is Nitro at Great Adventure, with 2 significant differences 1. The helix doesn’t lead to the mid course break run, it surprises you with another drop before heading into it 2. On the return bunny hill section, there’s a curved drop and curved hill thrown in the middle of it
@@johanlenox ok those are small and nitpicky differences that don’t particularly affect the layout. Can you seriously not see how two B&M hypers that were made in 1999 and 2001 would be similar to each other?
well raging bull was same year as apollo and could not be more different. to me nitro fits in more with like behemoth / intimidator / silver star. i think apollo and raging bull are both pretty unique in their catalogue@@marcusmcgraw3519

I’m glad Apollo’s Chariot will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this year!
What even happened to B&M hypers with the pre drop, only 2 were made and now there’s no pre drop.
Probably just how designs evolve. You don’t see predrops on new coasters much at all anymore.
They need to bring it back, it adds so much to a first drop
The pre-drop was developed as a means to reduce wear on the chain lift, prolonging its life. Once technology evolved, the need for one disappeared
@@starryagent9936 ah explains why all the old b&m inverts have those predrops
Well I bet the staggered seating ones can't have a pre drop because the trains are twice as long and it would be to much whip.
One of my favorite coasters in Busch Gardens
This was my first ever roller coaster
Outstanding ride. The use of terrain is superb.

I’m going in this spring break can’t wait
love it so much, now I realize it was opened exactly on the day I was born

My first hyper and I'm sure it was millions of other kids first as well. Still a great time years later.

This is what inspired B&M to make so many of these and im glad they did.
Wow! That looks like an airtime monster!!
it is sooooo fun and it is
Good ride. I’d simply describe it as fun. You can tell it was B&M’s first attempt at a hyper as the forces weren’t quite there for me.
While there are certainly better B&M Hypers out there, I still enjoy every ride I get on this!
this is my favorite ride! so fun 🤩
my sisters first time on Apollos was at night, and I told her the midcourse break run was the end of the ride, and she freaked out when it kept going.
I like how it finishes off with a nice little 30' drop or so. Good stuff. Haven't rode it since the early 2000s though. When it was still new. Haha
Wish more new B&M hypers would incorporate a twisted drop like AC’s third - most of the new ones are straight drop after straight drop after straight drop…

Back at the home park!!!
Honestly liked this better than Alpengeist
Def get a few rides on this when i go

So then it’s not Nitro😂🙄
I remember going on this when it first opened I still get gut punched when I think about it
That goose is rolling in its grave
That pre drop isnt anything like Raging Bulls right?
@maxhagenauer24 Nah Raging Bull's First Drop Is The Best On A B&M
Are their some coasters big then 210
Fabio watching this video: "Ow! My face!"
I rode this and im only 10
I rode it for the first time when I was 9

Hi I watch all ur posts but this is unrelated as I have saw Sarah in a advert for Blackpool theme park the advert is for white knuckle weekends 😂😅
That’s awesome!
3 trims is a bummer lol
Did anybody else notice the fake goose at the bottom of the first drop?
Nevermind. It's not a goose lol
Raging bull is better but this is still very fun
