Great video. I am considering doing the transmission replacement myself. Don't fell like paying $210 for it. This has given me more confidence. Thanks buddy!
I have a 2015 CRV myself it's hard to find videos on transmission fluid change thanks for the video. Also don't forget to change your differential fluid. But you waited a long time to change your transmission fluid. I am not a professional mechanic but from watching UA-cam I know what am putting in to my car. I don't trust mechanics especially in New York City.
You did miss one vital step: you forgot to to take out the overflow plug located above and to the side 8 inches above the drain plug. It ensures the tranny is not overfilled resulting in higher pressures that can blow out seals. It is a similar step for changing the rear differential fluid. It also has an overfill plug
Here is what I learned as of Sept 1St 2019 changing my 2015 crv transmission fluid with one crush washer. you can reuse the crush washer but only at your own risk. I reuse mine 2-3 times before I replace. This is 2015 awd touring model and it is the same for 2015-2018 maybe 2019 so it does use about 4.8 qrts. Have your 5qts a of fluid ready. I only use Honda brand cvt2. It says on the yellow plug and your owner manual. You will need a long plastic transmission funnel . Cost about $3. 12mms wrench, 3\8 drive and a torque wrench would be handy. Crack loose both drain plug and overkill plug just to make certain they both can be loose before you drain all your fluid. I lay down plastic and a drain pan. Open drain plug and drain fluid. Takes about 10 minutes. After it stops draining install drain plug after you have cleaned it well. Torque to 36 nm. Now add about 3 qts via where the yellow plug is. Turn on engine and run through all the years 3 seconds each year and do this a couple of times. Turn off engine, add the rest of the fluid. Total 5qts. Now lower car off jacks so the car is level. Remove overkill plug. About 1\4 qrt will drain out. Once it slows to a drips, install overfill plug. Tighten to 20-25nm. You are done
Thank you both for the great info. Just did this service to my ‘16 CR-V 2wd. After filling it up w the 3 quarts I went thru all gears 3x then filled the last 0.9 quart. Unscrewed overfill plug and only a few drops came out, so if you allow as much fluid as possible to drain the 3.9 quart capacity (2wd) in the owner’s manual is spot on.
@@navyretired230 Thank you both. I was going to do this soon, and was wondering where the overflow (overkill) plug was in reference to the transmission drain plug?
Bro, you forgot one important thing, after filling the lube oil, one check plug to be screw down and make sure there little oil dip out ,otherwise the oil may be too much or not enough ,that will do harm to the CVT transmission. Anyway thanks your video!
Oasis T I appreciate the input man. I did make sure the plug was tight I just didn’t show it on the video that’s my fault. However I don’t think I should take the little dipstick out because I think it could affect the pressure. Also If you check the spec for how much oil you’re supposed to put, shouldn’t be a problem.
@@Rudysgaragellc You clearly did not understand what oasis was telling you (to be fair he did not write it well). There is an overfill plug that should be removed to be sure you do not overfill or underfill the tranny. You skipped that and most likely overfilled the tranny.
I have a 2015 CRV as well. 42,000 miles. When should I change transmission oil ? Is there filter to change too ? Great video. Please video all your work on this car to share. i already subscribed.
daniel yong thank you for the subscription I will probably be making another video on how to change the filter. The fluid should be changed every 30k miles.
Thanks for uploading bro! But could you tell me what wrench did you use? I honestly don’t know where to get that. I’ve bought couples set of hex socket but none of them fit!
ebusive Thanks for your reply. I realized that a few days after I posted my question. And after spending an hour I changed my fluid. It saves me about $100😛 I think I can do the same thing on my mom’s Accord later. That will save up to $150 or more!!!Thanks again for uploading.

ebusive well, you’ll spend way less time if you’ve experience of using hydraulic lift, especially which point you’re going to support. I spent quite a lot of time on that.
Hola yo tengo una Crv 2015 que medida es la arandela que le pusiste a el tornillo de la caja de transmisión y cuantos botes de aceite le echo o cuanto es lo recomendable para esa caja CVT
for the 2wheel drive it says 3.9 quarts capacity which would seem different from the amount that gets drained. may be drain and fill 3.4ish quarts. looking back at all the other years of crv it seemed like it was 3.2 -3.5 quarts. 3.9 quarts for a two wheel drive honda crv 2015 seems too high
Disregard my last reply. I read where the 2015 CR-V doesn't have a CVT filter, but I came across one on Hondapartsnow.com. www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~filter~25450-p4v-013.html
When you go through each gear, do you just turn it on the car or start up the engine like you’re going to drive it? Because you just tapped your auto start button once.
just replaced the CVT in my 2016 crv, though it is a work vehicle which racks up 250 miles a day, it only had 55,000 miles when the CVT decided to crap out
@@brighter22 we used it to deliver heavy parts such as transmissions etc, one time we had up to 5 transmissions loaded in the back, I drove it hard, so maybe that's why it went out prematurely
Yes but No Warm CRV and CVT 1. Remove and clean the magnetic drain bolt. 2. Remove and clean the CVT fill cap. 3. Measure the old Honda CVT qty and replace that qty (Take Out 4 Put In 4) 4. Slowly shift thru all gears. 5. Drive for ~ 1 day. 6. CRV cold CVT cold add ~ 1/2 qt of Honda HFC fluid 7. Remove over fill drain bolt (12mm) and drip out excess Honda HFC fluid FIN Always check Honda HFC fluid level with CRV cold. Old or New Honda HFC fluid color means nothing! Old fluid will be black new is clear but after a few miles that new clear CVT fluid will turn black. Color means nothing Maintenance Check 60,000 miles R&R CVT fluid every 60,000 miles. Annually check CVT fluid level when CRV is cold. No drips repeat steps 6-7
Poring an extra quart is completely useless..... but the biggest problem is You never actually checked for the proper fluid level!!! Please stop showing people bad auto repair practices. There is a check plug on this model to allow excess fluid to drain when properly filled.

To flush the transmission fluid, do you drain the old fluid and replenish, do it 3 or 4 times after running it on the highway?
The washer is optional in my opinion. Unless it's clearly damaged or your transmission fluid was leaking from the plug before.
