- A fresh cut Weeping Willow log becomes an interesting and big, natural edge, no bark bowl in this video. From big and heavy to a delicate ¼” thick centerpiece that would look great on any dining or living room table.
This video is shown in my normal format of regular speed mixed with high speed scenes. My goal is to show the viewer the realities of turning while also showing as much of the project as I can within reason.

Rod your bowl is magnificent and spectacular the grain and color of the wood awesome. I pray that you and your family are still well and healthy. I pray that God will bless you a thousand fold and keep you safe through every promise in Psalm 91. Very good to see you and hear your voice. Semper Fi dear Rod.
That bowl would make a classy and elegant cat bed! Please don’t think I am belittling your talent or effort! I love watching you turn what seems to be just a hunk of wood into a gorgeous, practical piece of art. It’s just that when I looked at your beauty shot I immediately saw my cat curled up in the bottom, purring contend idly. Thanks for sharing your work with us!.
haha! It wouldn't offend me at all to see a cat curled up inside it! I love animals😊

I have a large variety of woods here on my farm, from spalted Ash to Osage orange but I've never tried turning Willow. Since Beaver came in and downed all my beautiful large willow trees beside my house last week I've got plenty of Willow to work with. That Bowl was beautiful. Thank you for showing it.
Another beautiful project. Thanks for sharing. Semper Fi lady b
Much appreciated, sister!
A very unique bowl. Like always a master piece. Stay safe Sir.
Absolutely wonderful bowl. I have never turned willow, but as a kid we had one in the yard that came down in a storm. After I cut it up for my dad (with a bow saw!) we stacked the longer logs in a pile. They were still sending out shoots two years later!
Thank you! Wow, that must have been a job with a bow saw! Paul told me the exact same thing, that a willow would keep trying to grow for a couple years! A hearty tree for sure.
R Humphrey i still have that bow saw 45 years later, still hate it!
Thank you for serving. Also thanks for a great video.
So beautiful. Truly an art form
So amazingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Just stunning!🥰
Another great piece Rod. I like the shape and
size of this one. Thanks for sharing.
I was looking forward to your video all day. Well done my friend.
Absolutely Amazing Work You Sir Are A True Artist
Wow! That is so beautiful.
Great bowl. Beautiful.
G'day from Cairns Far North Queensland Australia, I have been watching your channel during the Coronavirus lockdown here in Australia, I am a 70-year-old retiree and I have been watching your youtube videos on my TV so I have not been able to subscribe until now that I am on my computer. My dad used to do woodturning and it has always fascinated me but I have not been able to set myself up with all of the equipment, so I get enjoyment watching others do the craft. I still have not watched all of your videos but I'm working on it, also love your carving and cabinet making. Please keep up the great work. Bob Billingham,
Came up beautiful! Thanks for showing.
I absolutely love it.....👍👍👍👍😷
Brilliant result.
Nice shape. I’ll be tuning in to see how this dried. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely Beautiful, from Gramma in Fl.I really appreciate your great viedos, Blessings to you and your family. 👍🙏

Very nice love how the grain pattern came out.
Very beautiful piece. Semper Fi
Love the shape.
stunning bowl Rod great job stay safe take care god bless. SEMPI FI
Only experience I’ve ever had with weeping willow was about 55 years ago. My dad and I took one down for my grandfather. The thing I remember most it was like iron. We ruined more than a few chains taking it down and cutting it up. Wish I had some now. Beautiful job on that bowl. Thanks for sharing.
Just lost a couple of Large limbs on our willow tree! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful work Rod. You make it look easy but we know it's not, great job.
Beautiful bowl!
There's a lot of interesting grain going on with that bowl. It's fantastic.
I can't wait to see it in it's finished glory. Semper Fi.
Thank you! I'll make sure to show it. It's really thin, so the drying shouldn't take too long. Semper Fi brother
Awesome job. It's a beautiful piece.
Looking Good.
love love love it 💜💜💜
Beautiful bowl, Marine. Nice job for sure.
Very beautiful work and fine art
Very beautiful!
Good stuff. Thanks for posting. Really enjoy my coffee over a Friday morning bowl turning video.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you! ☕
I like you man you have a good attitude I enjoy watching just got into Turning myself
Nice piece! I’ve turned a fair bit of willow and really like the color of it.
This was my first try at it and was surprised by its beauty. Have you turned it dry? I'm curious about it...
R Humphrey I only do the twice turn method. I found it quite soft but easy to sand if you did happen to get some end grain that wouldn’t cooperate. Easy to finish as well.
Excellent...as always 💕
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice! Ive not turned any willow, but, ive carved a bunch of it. Looks good rod. Nice mask too. Its a shame that it has come to that, but we do what we have to do. Stay healthy and safe.
Beautiful. I cringed when you took the bark off the rim, told myself you had a reason, wow. I wish I lived next door.
Thanks very much! 😊 I'm glad you liked how it turned out!
Beautiful!
Beautifully done
Thank you!
Very cool looking, great job.
Thin, natural edge, and no bark. Definitely my preferred style of bowl turn. You did a very nice job of it, too! 👏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Another lovely work, Rod.
Well it looks pretty good now. It will be interesting to see how much distortion you will get when it's dry.Thank you for sharing and stay healthy.
Thanks Glen! I'll be sure to show it in upcoming videos. You as well my friend!
it is very pretty, thank you for sharing
live edge bowls are my favorite to turn
That’s a lovely and simple bowl. Can’t wait to see it again in a few months time.
Yet another great piece...hope it drys well...love the mask👍😎
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the way it turned out. I, like others, am excited to see what it will look like in a few months. Semper Fi
Very unique looking piece there. Looking forward to coming back to it and see if it changes form.
What your viewers can't see, is how much talent it takes to keep the turning a consistent size from top to bottom.
You always amaze me with your work. Wow! Nice mask too😊
Thank you so much 😀
I love it.
Love the two tones of wood and the edge.
I always love to see a piece of what is just normal ole wood become a beautiful object. It 's calming to watch you work. Thanks.
Beautiful
Rod, I used Howard's on several bowls. They look great when you get done. A few months later, the just haze over and are dull finish. I was told that it needs to be done every week for a month and then every month for a year. Now I use wipe on poly, but not per instructions on the can. Another turner told me his method and it works very well if you like gloss finish. You ended up with a beautiful bowl! Well done sir! Kevin
That would is gorgeous, Rod! Nice work, I’m excited to see what it looks like finished!
Looks great, Top!
Billy
My goodness that turned out beautifully. Really love the final shape and the irregular rim. That wood is just gorgeous! I just love this channel!
Thank you so much, Choya C!
Really nice job.
Still love that soothing voice of yours Rod. Keep up the great work.
Thanks very much! 😊
Great looking bowl my friend!...Bruce
Beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
Outstanding work Sir!
Thank you very much!
very nice indeed
Very nice!
Very nice. Looks great.
Thank you very much!
Yet another beautiful piece. The wood grain is beautiful, and the natural edge you left on the bowl suits this piece very well. Sometimes beauty is in the uniqueness rather than the ordinary. Thank you so much for sharing this 💜
Thank you, Rod. Weeping willow is such a beautiful tree but I didn't realise how lovely the wood is. I've lost parts of the bark on other blanks and have tried to put the bits back on with CA glue but it never looks right so bare natural edge is the way to go.
Keep safe.
Semper Fi.
Boy, at the start you could really see the kickback that you were fighting with.
Beauty from within.
Good job, Marine!
Awesome it's looking beautiful piece. Cheers Mr Humphrey, stay safe
Thank you, and you as well!
Beautiful piece my friend!!!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece ❤️
I love to watch the bits of wood appear out of what seems to be thin air.
Amazing!
I have always wondered if anyone turned willow. I love the color variation. As always, beautiful work. I just used Howard’s on a project I am working on. I loved the way it turned out.
Thank you so much! This was my first experience with the stuff. I like it. I need to turn a dry chunk and see how that goes...
Great project! And as always, I appreciate the positive message you always have.
Love that natural edge look. Can't wait to see it in few months.
Who knew Weeping Willow had such pretty grain! I look forward to seeing it again after it's fully dried.
stunning
I look forward to seeing it when dry. The lovely markings from the branches add such a beautiful touch and the uneven edge gives it a homey rustic feel. I had always been told willow and cottonwood were to "stringy" to turn well. This sure proved them wrong! Another wood to try, Blessings!
Great project!! Semper Fi Brother Golf Battery 3/12 Sending them down range.
Very nice
I love the 😷!!!
Who would have thought that weeping willow would have that beautiful grain hidden inside? It takes an artist to look at that ugly piece of wood and see that beautiful bowl. Ron, thanks for bring us along!
Love it.
Thank you very much!
