I first stumbled upon your fine channel because I love the Dead and I’m a humble beginner guitarist who really enjoys learning and playing these songs. I come back to this channel all the time because even if I weren’t an aspiring guitarist, I just plain love a Davvy lesson. Makes everything so fun, so approachable, absolutely hilarious, yet still teaches so well. Brilliant.
I appreciate all you do, sincerely, but I’ll never recover from this Donna wail intro sneak attack. I knew it was going to come at some point but not so suddenly
first heard in feb '71 at capital theatre portchester new york just after mickey left the band and was an immediate crowd please with everybody clapping along to the 'new 'song .. then in april at the fillmore east it was synced to the light show and during the intro there were bright purple tendrils waving in the current like some wild phosphorescent jellyfish creature .. i guess it left an impression ....
Playing in the band is my favorite not just dead song, but favorite song of all time. Probably why they playing it over 600 times lol. As someone who isn’t a 90s dead fan playing in the band still hits everytime(even if the 70s are always superior lol)
This is a great video with stuff I was super glad to learn. Thanks! Subscribed with the bell. If I could ask, I'd say that I love when a video starts with a playthrough of what I might learn. How else can I decide whether to invest the time into working through the lesson? But your video caught me and I kept watching anyway. I also think that if your subscribe ask followed an excellent playthrough at the top it would be even more effective. Can't wait to see what's next!
Despite the fact that impersonating my father will get you nowhere. This and every one of your videos that I have watched, which is not all of them by any means, or enough of them, have been enlightening, educational and fun.
The reason this is best to be considered in 10 and not 5 is due to the phrasing. The Intro phrasing is 6-4, and the verse and chorus are 4-4-2. Trying counting these sections this way and you will notice that the phrasing is very natural. There is really no point at which this song has phrases that feel like 5-5.
I like to learn more GD songs, but im not that good theres all this open chords up the neck. I learned open at the 1st fret and use more barre chords up the neck, but love your lessons, learned Deal 🎶
Always appreciate these videos. You make high quality lessons for songs that otherwise have virtually no coverage on UA-cam.
Yes! You're a pioneer in this field. Good call powderfinger. 🤙
100% agree Stitch Method is great too for deeper analysis

Davy , Thanks so much. I think your soloing on this was killer. Really dug it.

Amazing! Have you looked into a weather report suite part 1 and 2 for a lesson? One of my favorites
Thanks, Davvy ! ! ! ! !

Once again, thank you! And thank goodness Donna didn't screech out her little vocal solo.

Thanks. I'm doing a whole Jerry fingerpicking thing that is different than what you are doing but I''ll learn your way also and play them both...
Quality stuff. Thank you man. 🤟
great lesson
I do the Bobby part at very beginning a little different. On that last little triplet riff- I play open A, then the B and C notes on the A string-
I hear a half step hammer on from D to Db on the B sting going into the D/C.. Bobby’s part

If you’re ever interested in learning those chords up and down the neck, my golden road course is specifically about that.

At least he picked one where she was in key. I thought it was one of Donna Dogchows finer moments, really.
