Are you an RV owner who is considering Starlink? While this satellite internet system is more expensive than traditional internet plans, it can be a game changer for those who frequent remote areas or are in need of more reliable connections during their travels.
Here’s what you should know before buying Starlink for your RV.
Starlink for RVs. As an RVer, you’ll want to use Starlink’s RV plan, since it doesn’t require you to provide a permanent address for services. Plus, you’ll be able to pause your plan during the months you’re not traveling, so you’re not paying unnecessary fees.
Who needs Starlink? If most of your RV travels are in areas with 4G and 5G services, chances are you may not need Starlink for your rig. If you plan on boondocking in remote areas, visiting destinations where cell phone coverage is limited, or simply want a backup plan in case internet services aren’t working-then Starlink can be a reliable option to keep you connected.
Where does it work? While Starlink is advertised to work globally, certain obstructions can hinder services. Having a clear, unobstructed view of the sky is important when using Starlink. Trees, buildings, mountains, and other objects and landscapes can interfere with your signal. Peak traffic times for Starlink users in the same area can also cause congestion and slower internet speeds.
In-motion use. Starlink recently released a new antenna for RVers who want to connect on the go. The monthly plan is the same for this service, but the antenna will cost you more. This is great for those who need internet while they're on the move, but it comes with a significant price increase for hardware, takes up more space on your roof, and it will consume more power than the stationary internet for RVs.
Starlink power usage. Power consumption will vary depending on whether your satellite is idling, receiving, sending, or both. In a 24-hour period, you can expect to consume 1 kilowatt-hour of electricity in your rig. It’s important to keep in mind that Starlink systems currently only work with an alternating current (AC) connection, which will drain more power from your batteries. So you’ll want to be mindful of satellite use, and turn your Starlink system off when not in use and at night.
Starlink alternatives. Currently, there aren’t any low-cost satellite internet companies on the market outside of Starlink. Amazon is expected to launch a similar service, but it’s still years away from completion. Other providers are either exclusively for businesses or are much more expensive and slower. Traditional internet services are still the top alternative to Starlink.
International use. Starlink coverage depends solely on the number of satellites covering a specific area. While new satellites are launched regularly, some regions have fewer satellites, providing less internet coverage. You can check the Starlink coverage map to see if the area you’re traveling to will offer reliable Starlink services.
Last word. For RVers who frequently travel to remote locations without any cell phone coverage, Starlink can be an amazing way to stay connected. It’s also a reliable backup for traditional cellular plans, to ensure you have service throughout your journeys. If staying connected at all times isn’t a necessity for your travels, you might want to consider other internet and cell phone providers before making the jump to Starlink services.

Thanx my friend, I especially like the fact that you addressed power consumption, for boondockers
Definitely an important consideration for us!
@@malimish do you know how you can set up an account with starlink ? We got our starlink ordered and shipped to us but they never sent us an email, therefor we can not set up an account.
@@raybeechy7798 you would have used an email to order your starlink. It's the same one you received the shipping confirmation on. You should be able to create a password using that account if you go to the login page.
@@raybeechy7798 you download the app :)
Power consumption is HUGE
What a thorough assessment! So applicable to us full-time RVers.
Thanks brother! Safe travels…😎
Wow! That was a very thorough and complete informative video about starlink. I'm thinking this guy knows more about starlink than the people that work there! I bet they can't tell you how long it runs on solar power or battery.
And I want to know what in a world this guy does to support his family traveling constantly like that. That is amazing!
Thanks for the helpful info! I've been considering getting starlink but the costs were just out of my budget. I ended up going with HomeFi and it was the best choice for me, I have had great experiences with it, and it has given me the best connection with no issues.
I just got this for my UK Travels and I plan to come to the US too so I am glad I did - Also being able to download as you go along is the best benefit. I often go to places where cell speeds are low
thank you for this information, I find the power consumption very helpful. It was really good to mention the future possible competitive brands too.
Excellent info, I was searching for this info, u explained it very well. Makes my decision easier. Thx buddy, much appreciated.
Great review and summary. Everything you noted was my exp with my SL-RV since June 2022. Power consumption is a factor if you are a boondocker. More solar and bigger lithium power stations or lithium batts are needed. Your avg power consumption figure of 30-50 watts is accurate.
Sir..
Thank you!
This is the first video I've watched of yours. It is stunning how informative it is so subscribed and again, thanks 🍻
Exceptional video! Concise and extremely informative. Great job.
Great video, very informative. Question, when one isn’t RVing can the equipment be moved for home use?
Great presentation, well done.
Yelp, and only facts and not this clickbaiting bullshit from a some “Wanna-be-Influencer”.
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Really great presentation, very thorough and helped me make my decision. Thank you
How well does it work to stream movies in remote areas.? We are going to Alaska and my husband is a TV junkie. Also, will it help us get service better?
Great video on Starlink SI. Some new information for me and I will look into this for down the road internet. A bit spendy though. Take care. Dave.
Great information. Thank you!
How far away from modem can you be to get service?
So you are saying we can get the home version and take it with us in our RV.
Hands down the best information I have found . Thank you Sir
Does starlink have a way to test for satellite access prior to purchasing, I'm interested in this for some property I have but want to make sure it will be able to see the satellites before I purchase.
You can return it for a full refund within 30 days.
Wow I haven’t gotten a notification from Dan’s channel in over a year or more, I would imagine his kids are all grown up now.
They are huge!
awesome, thank you.
Thanks for the review. I'm ready to get the RV dish for my trips into remote Baja where there isn't cell or wifi service. I'm just waiting for Starlink to offer a modem with 12V DC because inverters are too inefficient.
We've been in Baja for 2 months with starlink and it has been amazing!
@@malimish Lucky you! I'm stuck here on Maui where you have to put out a fishing pole to camp 😂
Mines pretty good, got it when it first came out. Just prei ur not in the deep forest
Great video. Thanks. Do you know if I get a standard version, if it can be transferred to an RV plan? (IE is the equipment the same?) the RV version comes with a “power supply”. Is that just an inverter? Thx
Is there a kit to install a plug-in in multiple rvs (mine and my sons) so depending on which vehicle we take we have easy plugin capability for the mobile starlink
Wow, thank you very much. You really know StarLink. (Smile)
Great video! I am a truck driver who drives Midsouth and Western states. What kind of speeds can I expect? I mean; are we talking streaming 4K videos on Netflix? I know you have tested extensively in different areas of the United States. What was your typical average speed? Thnx so much. subscribed
You should have no problems streaming a 4k Netflix video in most places. I've seen as low as 2 or 3 Mbits but it is usually above 20 or 30 Mbits if not much higher. But as more people subscribe to the service, especially other truck drivers, you could have very saturated user bases at truck stops.
Thanks for the informative video. How can the router be mounted within the RV? Does it come with a wall attachment of some type?
Will our HP Laser jet printer work off of the Starlink wi-fi router?
thank you for good info
Will your cell phone work with starlink in an area that has no towers
I am wanting to purchase this within the next 4 or 5 months. I have very unique requirements. I logged into Starlink and purchase options were confusing. Can you point me to a human who could listen to my extremely unique requirements and make some honest advise?
Good info. Thanx & safe travels, Amigo! ^v^
Amazing videos very detailed
Hi. Do you know if there's a way to automatically transfer connection in my RV from Starlink to Cellular if the signal is bad? Thank you for the video!
Need a Dual router like a Peplink or something similar
Amazing Info! Thank You Very Much 👍🏜️🙂
great information.
Thanks!!
Too much information in a single video thanks man
How is it too much information? He covered all the basic questions you might have to use this product.
Great. All talking head. Shows me nothing.
Just subscribed to the Campendium app, it wanted my email address.
I don't email, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or any other social media. So everytime I open the app it wants me to submit my email again.
You most likely have a Gmail address if you are here on UA-cam.
@@malimish I do. But don't remember my password. So I don't/can't access it.
@@mikeelder6298 you can just click the forgot password link during the sign in process to retrieve it.
