Really informative video. I have just got this car, having previously run a Fiesta ST, and sure this isn’t as quick as the Fiesta, or as poised on a twisty B road in the perfect conditions, but the Puma is a genuinely very good car, and a much more enjoyable drive 90% of the time. The transmission is excellent and it is amply quick enough for public roads. Don’t be put off by the hybrid / automatic combination because it works seamlessly. Despite the drop in power from the 1.5 this car is still very much an ST.
They’re going to stop selling the 1.5 and the 1.0 hybrid will be the only Puma ST. I’m sure the buying public will buy 1000s of them. But for enthusiasts it feels like the fun ST/RS days are over…
Just picked mine up this week, this is my 5th ST , had Fiesta and Focus STs , this really is a great car , handles just as well as my previous cars, the Auto box is brilliant, and it is surprisingly quick for the 1.0 , it is only 10bhp shy of the 2015 Fiesta ST , and 48-52 mpg, give one a try 👍🏼…… great vid, enjoyed it 👍🏼
Nice car and beautiful colour too, was a bit disappointed when found out ford are stopping the 1.5 puma st and only doing the 1.0t st poweshiftt, but to be honest it looks great, sounds great and that 170hp is plenty for uk roads, if i was changing my car in a few years would definitely consider one of these in fantastic red or cactus grey, ashame they don't do mean green anymore for puma st, that was best colour ever 👍 great fun video greetings from bonnie Scotland, that puma would be a hoot to drive on our Scottish highland roads 👌😁🏴
Ford appears to be determined to alienate its devoted UK fans...the love for past and current RS/ST models is off the scale but this model is just not going to cut it. You cant even get a manual Focus ST now which is the only model id consider replacing my Puma ST Gold Edition M285 Mountune for.... Ford are having their Ratner Moment and its a real shame..
Can't see the point... if you want an ST that's reasonable to run, there are still a few unregistered 1.5 Puma ST's knocking around showrooms. It will still meet all the emissions restrictions for the rest of its driving life so ULEZ's won't be an issue, it's not fuel heavy and if you buy it new and you're a cash buyer - chances are you change your car every 5 years anyway, so your next change will be on or just after the 2030 ban on petrol vehicles regardless, and there will be plenty of petrol heads looking for a all petrol hot hatch. Simply cannot see the point in this ST. Doesn't do it for me. Might as well just get the standard Puma MHEV.
I have the 1l hybrid petrol version and its a lively nippy car good grip on the rd but with the hybrid its so quiet at times you think its engine went off lol the 6 speed gear and gearbox chances is nice with sport eco ect
@@TimWilliamsHDthanks! Tim, next time on review of cars could you have an empty large suitcase and medium small case so we can see how big the boots are please 😊
I had a Puma ST line X mild hybrid with 155HP but it was pretty lame compared to the full fat Puma ST 1.5 that I have now. There is no way I’d swap it for the new Puma ST.
When this car was announced I was so disappointed. This car is representative of the end of what I always liked about Ford. A 167HP engine in a ST? Common guys. The car is already on stilts and I only see the Puma as an even less appealing option for now for Ford Performance fans I do get the efficiency argument, maybe as a daily I’d be fine but why buy one of these as a daily? It’s not really great in either category. It’s not that fast nor is it THAT efficient.
I really wanted to buy a Ford Puma ST automatic 1.5 but unfortunately only the 1.0 is automatic, I’d never buy a 1.0 litre engine, not enough power and it’s just asking for trouble.
Isn’t it just 0.7 seconds slower than the 1.5 versions? unless someone is a professional rally car driver or F1 then you won’t notice it, it’s like someone saying there car is faster when you use premium petrol or they wash the car
If this car is using the "wet belt" engine it is best avoided. They are having all sorts of problems with it. Very bad idea having a timing belt that runs through an oil bath.
I always had ford's till they started using these engines so many design flaws 😢 I hear they have replaced the main timing belt with a chain but left a wet belt powering the oil pump 🥺 work that logic out 🫣 also those powershift autos have an awful reputation for going South with very low miles 😮they were a subject of a lawsuit in the US were everyone drives auto's ford lost the court case so is replacing thousands of then and still they fail as do the engine's 🤕 I went over to toyota and lexus who invented hybrids and have perfected them over 20 years or more 😎 and they drive with great handling and good performance if needed without the economy falling through the floor 🙂 10 years 0ne hundred thousand miles warranty shows how confident they are in the product 🤗 that puma looks great but is only ok if you wanna lease a car for 3 years and then replace it's not long term purchase unless you have deep pockets
This isn't an ST. Ford need to reintroduce the XR badge for the warm cars like this and reserve the ST badge for genuine hot cars and use RS for mega cars to compete with Audi RS or AMG 45 cars, for example. This car is more like a PUMA XR as far as I'm concerned.
Ford will get bankrupt. All they had to do is put a hybrid system on the 1.5l and use it on a big range of cars, instead thy are using this tinny 1.0l that needs more fuel in the real world driving and gives you less performance
@@ThrottleBody exactly but one of the biggest problem I have with small engines with big HP is that people will drive them accordingly specially when paired with an ST badge
Absolute abomination sticking an ST badge on this car 🤮. Mk7 Fiesta STs and Focus MK2s are iconic 'petrol head' cars. Who's going to be talking about these in 10 years time? No interest in Ford since they have binned Hothatches😢 I simply don't understand the way the company is heading. To do away with 'Fast Fords' seems like brand suicide.
Happening with all brands, suspension is the most interesting part of cars we’ll be talking about in 20 years time…maybe bit early but was always gonna happen I think…

Great review i really want ine ive had the 15 puma st and now i want this one

Love my Puma ST! Great Review. 👍
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant review, new subscriber,I currently have a 71 plate 1.5 which I love,I’m test driving one of these on Saturday 👍
Thanks legend! Enjoy!
Happy Easter Tim. 😇
Same to you mate 🙏
Great video… starting to think about this car as PCP on Fiesta ST comes to an end… Difficult choice .
Definitely worth considering bud! Get a test drive booked!

Well done

Didn’t realise Ford had this as an option. Really interesting… I’ll stick to my Cupra Atec for now 😂
Getting a ATECA next week! Loads of short form content coming! Had one previously, great SUV!

I take that approach with caution 😄 defiantly applies to cars for sure!
Good review.
Glad you enjoyed it, it’s a great 50/50 car!
How many times can you say ST in 15 mins 😂. Great vid 👍👍
😆 STop 😆
Love the content brother. Keep it coming.
Thanks bro! Will do! Hope you’re good!
Had a puma for a compant car spent more time in ford then it i had it was a nightmare battery steerting problems
Ah mate, sorry to hear!
so the engine sound comes out of the speakers? just to understand it right..?
Bit of both, definitely sounds decent from the outside for a mild hybrid hash
Did you get a lot of wind noise in the cabin?
Not that I noticed bud

In spain and other markets of EU is listed as 160hp, but CO2 and acceleration are listed exactly the same, in dont understand nothing 😮

Forgive my grammar above - you all get my point.

I’d probably notice it going from a 2 litre Ford mondeo titanium x sport and I’ve heard that many drivers have had problems with the 1 litre engine.
Even more things to go wrong and needing expensive replacement

It's OK now just follow service schedules. Has a chain and the oil pump belt is fine just service just like any other car
All Puma's are chain driven. They changed from wet belt with the release of the Puma, the powershift box is also all new.

Ford are in big trouble in the States, they are losing money hand over fist with the Mustang E . They just can't sell them
Not to mention the fact that the 1.0 engines are super unreliable.

Look like an improvement over the old one, but they are still using the aweful 1.0ecoboom. Not matter how you dress up a pig, its still a pig. Shame.
