Great episode Gents! Regarding the San Francisco Territory, Roy Shire had the same philosophy as Bill Watts and Eddie Graham. Ray Stevens was the "Top Dog" and locker room leader from 1961 until the early 70s when he left to wrestle for the AWA. Patterson then became the "Top Dog" until he left, but Ray and Pat were always the top draws in the territory. Shire was considered a great payoff guy too. I always heard that Ray Stevens made over a $100k a year in the early 1960s. By 1979, attendance began to shrink because Stevens and Patterson were gone except for Battle Royal appearances. Anyway, Roy was burnt out, and then he had heart attack in 1980 and lost his TV contract. He made a ton of money and had a huge chicken ranch in Sonoma county, so he dissolved Big Time Wrestling and retired. Verne Gagne came in around 1981 but the AWA drew poorly in the Bay Area.

What made this and part 2 of the Territory episode so great was the lack of the schticks and gimmicks (see paint of coat/hot?how hot?....) Hardly any old worn out, repetitive impersonations, not being started by Conrad's obnoxious loud forced laugh, no purposely pronouncing words incorrectly and then spending the proceeding 3 mins talking about making it a t-shirt (so staged). Conrad's best stuff is during the first 6 months of any new podcast he creates.

I grew up in Houston during the Paul Bosch years. Fond memories to say the least. We had a weekly every Friday at the Sam Houston Coliseum. While WWE only came to town a couple of times a year. Just don't understand why the two can't exist today where you have a weekly company that puts a show on every week while the bigger company only came to town twice a year.

@4:52 movies based on true stories have problems staying true due to rights fees, budget, who is available, and straight drama. For example the remember the titans team beat everyone by 50. That doesn’t make a great movie. There was no need for a trick play to win a championship.

1:11:29 that’s the biggest problem with today’s wrestling is you’ve got a bunch of guys that know how to do moves in high spots and they’re trying to please. Uncle Dave but nobody’s really drawing money. WWE seems to be getting a better handle on that lately, but AEW this is their biggest problem. Tony is catering to an audience that’s going to be there no matter how good or how bad the product is. Curt Hennig is widely regarded as one of the best workers ever and do you know how many times he did a high spot? I can’t think of one time I ever saw him do a high spot.

Damn good show! Seen Ray Stevens in the AWA, such an instinctive pro wrestler. And Buddy Rose, late in his career, looking so out of shape, and YET he and Doug Sommers outrunning both a young Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannety for an hour to humble them made for great tag team matches.

WWF took the top talents from most promotions. It was also the aim to kill the competition, which seems short sighted, but it worked out for them.
It might have been unavoidable with cable TV. Seemed like a much better way to do business to have loads of places to work though.

Also In June Of 1983 Southwest Wrestling Was Drawiing Huge At The HemiFair Arena Was Sold Out Or Almost Sold Out Along With A Lot Of Area Shows They Tried Going To Ohio And Pennsylvania Outside Of Texas And Then Lost Television When Area Television Was Sold Out From Under Joe Blanchard And Vince McMahon Jr Bought Southwest Championship Wrestling Spot And Created All American Wrestling
