Which is actually what makes this movie so incredible trust me no one wants to be in the mob it's extremely dangerous and shows how it really was in real life.
@@chris9242true but according to other mob guys. People like that can’t be trusted and eventually have to go. Burke was a good earner but if Henry hadn’t turned states evidence then he would have definitely been taken out. If he is wacking his friends cause he don’t wanna pay them their cut for a heist then whose telling if you try to go into business from a completely fiscal relationship
This scene is so surreal and strange. It's sad and dark, but the music is kinda upbeat. Never forget the first time I saw it. Definitely one of the most memorable montages ever.
btw, and is meant to contrast, as we see all this dead people that are relatively unimportant, and it then shows the death of tommy, as a direct contrast " yeah watch, you don't care about this dudes but once we show you the main death, you gonna realize there is enough to go around for everyone."
I just realized , carbone in the freezer (meat truck) , fur coat, remember the scene where Henry brought in fur coats and the guy said "well hang em in the freezer" Coincidence ???
BINGO! Its clever but yes this scene refers back to MANY scenes like that I'm working on a video on this a lot of clever jokes were sprinkled in the movie
See, hits never bothered Jimmy. It was business but what Jimmy really loved to do..what he really loved to do was steal. I mean, he actually enjoyed it. Jimmy was the kind of guy who rooted for the bad guys in the movies.
I remember watching this movie as a 7 year old with my mother, I had to go into the garage and cry after this scene lol. Now it's one of my favorite movies of all time.
Thats fucked up and all them dudes was Jimmys friends and he killed them anywayz over greed. This movie only showed 5 bodies but in reality it was some 10 people killed who ws involved in the Lufthansa heist. He killed his whole crew.
I bought an electric piano and learned how to play this piano piece specifically because of this scene. Another way that goodfellas made me a better person.
This is Derek and the Dominos - aka Clapton and the gang on smack...Love the way Scorsese uses this song (in more than one movie) to imply the descent of the story-arc. Things starting to fall apart...the beginning of the end. Very poignant. Gimme Shelter is another of his (and my) favorites. Marty Da Man.
So many people say films like Goodfellas and Casino romanticise and glamourise the gangster lifestyle. I respectfully disagree. At the start of Goodfellas, yeah, you see Henry idolising the lifestyle and romanticising it but it's ultimately part of the point that it ain't all it's cracked up to be. You see the highs, but you also see the lows as this scene (and the rest of the film from this scene on) quite clearly demonstrates.
Jimmy was cutting every link between himself and the robbery, but it had nothing to do with me. I gave Jimmy the tip and he gave me some Christmas money. From then on I kept my mouth shut. I knew Jimmy. He had the cash. It was his. I know he kicked some money upstairs to Paulie, but that was it. It made him sick to have to turn money over to the guys who stole it. He'd rather whack them. Anyway, what did I care? I wasn't. asking for anything and, besides. Jimmy was making nice money with me through my Pittsburgh connections. But still, for months after the robbery, they were finding bodies all over.
Ray Liotta's narration of the murders, was so authentic & spot on! Martin Scorsese is THE MAN! And using Eric Clapton's "Layla" as the music, to guide the scenes was pure Genius!
This is my favorite scene in cinema...I remember entering my next door neighbors house during this scene as a kid, stuck with me in the oddest way...what a film
I only found out about a month ago that Frank Carbone (the guy in the meat truck) is the same actor that played Genco Abbandando way back in The Godfather Part II
Exactly why I chose to not be a criminal. Jimmy just murdered everyone that helped get him rich and was on decent terms with just because he had to share. Greed knows no boundaries. Don't fall for it even though its extremely tempting. It ends badly every time.
I have one question about this part of the movie...well we all know jimmy had all these guys whacked...but did jimmy have consent from the higher ups to place the hits or did he just do what he wanted? Did they know and not care... Just curiois
Most were Burke's crew and had little or no connection to the higher ups, so they wouldn't have cared. The only one he killed who might have caused problems was Paolo LiCastri, as he was a made man with the Gambinos. But, Jimmy made so much money for the bosses he pretty much had carte blanche...
Its not realistic its a fantasy sequence - Scorsese used the real names of the people but altered their lives a lot Henry was not like this in real life
Henry states that Tommy was shot in the face so that his mother could not give him an open-casket funeral. Tommy's real-life counterpart, Tommy DeSimone, was killed in January 1979. His remains have never been recovered. Pesci won Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his brilliant and outstanding performance as manic and psychotic mobster Tommy DeVito..
The heist netted 6 million so he knew that feds state and local police would be all over it and had to eliminate anyone who he felt threatened his survival even close friend's but eventually Henry inform's the fbi and get's away with it.
Whats really impressive is the shot with Carbone (the guy in the meat truck) in this video the shot used a crane for the first half then the camera man had to jump off and continue walking into the meat truck i would hate to have to film that shot
@Lurch150 He was crying because he Knew He was Next. If a crew that stood Invincible through out all that shit they went through Dodging Lufthansa , and Finally for somebody to be so Close to Jimmy get wacked..I am not doubting his love for Tommy because he Knew him as a Young Boy and took care of Him, But you just Know that he realizes That He is next...Reality of that probably sank In within seconds and The emotion of it, along with your best friend being killed...was too much for him.
Why did they have to kill Frank Carbone? He seemed like a loyal stooge who was not any problem and rarely opened his mouth and just did what he was told, even the dirty jobs.
@doctorw2 I have introduced this movie to 5 people...during this scene every single person said something to the effect of "damn...why the hell did he have to kill Carbone".
Ah, the part where Goodfellas gets depressing as we realize it's not so funny anymore but kind of psychotic
When you realize being in the mob actually sucks
Connor M The main reason why they turned informat.
Thank you.
Yeah pretty much

to him it’s business. like henry said earlier in the movie, killing never bothered him, it was purely business.
He had known Henry for over two decades at that point so I wouldn’t be surprised if he also knew some of them that long
