I wasn't going to watch this one. Then the cover shot suddenly caught my eye in the right way, and I saw what I was PRETTY sure the song was going to be about. YUP! I'm sure glad I stopped long enough to realize what was going to be told in this piece of music! That first change of rhythm went from the "eternity" of decisions being made in a time of chaos and doubt in Pilate's mind, while he was wondering if the right thing was being done, with him actually listening to his wife on one side, and the frenzied crowd on the other side. Then...the fateful decision made, he had to give in and march with the army of hate that was trying to destroy the love. Big difference in those rhythms! Then you get to "destiny" that should not and cannot be changed, with the next rhythm (that is like the beating of the bass drum), over everything else that might try to interrupt. Very interesting that you then noticed the flamenco type of rhythm! We're talking Italian/Roman culture here. - - - - - - - - - - From a page called "life in italy"... "The dances of our tradition... Rooted in history and linked to a tradition passed on from a generation to the next, folkloric dances are living witness to local culture and heritage. These dances are often performed in small villages and borghi, and modernity seems not to manage to have the upper hand over them. A dance for love, a dance for courting, others for crops and grape harvest: there was a dance for every occasion, a true means of communication among people and a main form of expression. In August in Apulia there’s a Taranta Festival (Notte della Taranta), an itinerant music festival that has acquired international recognition. It is true that regional folkloric dances are different from one another, yet they have one common denominator: they were born to express feelings, wishes or drive fear away. They were considered a magic remedy that could influence nature and spirits." - - - - - - - - - - One of the main dances they would have done at that Taranta Festival, would actually be "The Tarantella." Its rhythms are definitely similar to a flamenco beat, and the two dances have similar moves. - - - - - - - - - - Then the fatal decision sets in as the crowd begins to bow to what is seemingly inevitable -- whether or not they understood the implications. - - - - - - - - - - So, then, Pilate begins to understand and know the fatality of what he has allowed to happen. Yet...underlying his sudden understanding of the impact right there, at that time, I believe the man knew of the prophecies that had come before, and by then, those thoughts must have been crowding through his brain like crazy. What was being done, MUST be done...whether or not he was being implicated by the cowardly shifting of the blame to him, by all of those around him (including his own wife). WOW! (and I WROTE that word just before you SAID it). - - - - - - - - - - Basically speaking, Pilate's actions were the key in the lock, that broke down the walls that had been built between God and His children made in His image (Imago Dei), by devilish deceit and lies. The reason Jesus came to us as a tiny babe wrapped in FLESH, was so that He could then turn around and do what needed to be done by that FINAL SACRIFICE. He became the PERFECT SACRIFICE LAMB, and the FINAL ONE. He shed both His human blood, and His God blood on that day, then He resurrected HIMSELF, after having shut down the dividing wall, at which time the VEIL in the temple was torn from TOP TO BOTTOM, so that mankind no longer had any priest to stop them from going directly to God Himself. Jesus had then presented Himself as the one true HIGH PRIEST...ONCE...FOR ALL. There is now, and never, ever will be again, the need for any other BLOOD SACRIFICE. Pilate, whether he knew it or not, HAD to play the part he did. God's timing is always perfect. - - - - - - - - - - I think this music was WONDERFUL, as depicting the several divisions in the both spiritual and physical battle that was going on throughout that scene. The triumph, at the end, indicates that God WON...as He always HAS, and He always WILL.
I love the info on the folkloric dances. I did not know any of that but it adds dimension to listening to traditional folk music! As far as Pilate's role goes, his as well as Judas and the Pharisees and even the crowd gathered was all the will of God. What transpired: the back and forth between the Pharisees, Herod and Pilate, the betrayal all HAD to happen! As the Lord hardened Pharoh's heart, He also made sure Judas and the rest played their parts according to His will because the Resurrection is everything! It's what it's all about. Great band and such a deep concept. Absolutely love it.
In order to fully understand the meaning of this song you must either read or watch(recommended) Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita". Believe me, you will understand what I'm talking about and you will love it. With love
In short, Pontius Pilate is a coward and Jesus says that that's the biggest sin of humans. Don't be a coward like Pontius Pilate or you will be punished.
Ария - самая легендарная металл группа в России, ни кто не смог и близко приблизиться к ее мастерству и вокалу Валерия Кипелова! Очень советую дальше знакомиться с их творчеством! Спасибо.
@@BemusingBill I highly recommend to listen "Playing with fire". Released in 1989, this song was the main on the album also named as "Playing with fire". In my opinion, this song in one of the best in whole metal music history. The song is about Niccolo Paganini and his gift to play a violin, there was a myth that he sold his soul to devil for the talent to play a violin.
Hi Bill! You got it right. This song tells a story of Christ's crucifixion, from the point of Pontius Pilate. But not a story that is written in the Bible. It's taken from famous book "The Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov. This song is older than 2 songs you listened before, it was released in 1991. Fun fact: Sergey Mavrin, who played the acoustic solo here, studied how to play acoustics especially for this song!
Hi Wolf! I will have to see if I can find a copy of that book. I think the storyline is very interesting. Good for Sergey! A musician's musician and a true disciple of the guitar. Nothing wrong with learning new skills. Thank you, my friend! 🤘
@@BemusingBill the book is wonderful and good English translation of it exist, multiple versions actually. There is also a limited series from early 2000s, which is also quite good, but be prepared it's not action cinema, it's intellectual monologue and just a tad of action in the end. But the series is very very close to the book
Aria. Like you, Bill I've been trying to get into them after falling in love with the Russian folk metal bands Arkona and GRAI. But time doesn't stretch, their catalog is long and there's great new metal coming out every day... P.s. That combination of pounding bass and flamenco style guitar is something very original, very worth reprising somewhere else. 🤔🤔👌👌
Man, I hear you- there is a lot of metal coming out every day and sooooo many bands! Thank you for the recommendations, my friend! I'll see if I can find anything from them just to check them out. Lastly, I agree with the point of flamenco and bass in metal! Let's hope we get more! 🤘❤️🤘
@@BemusingBill Both Arkona and GRAI are well worth a look. Arkona is even easy to find because they have Napalm distribution in the West. But GRAI has stuck closer to their folk metal roots. Hi Bill. If you like Blood for blood, try to listen other epic song from Aria - "Игра с огнëм", " Playing with fire". Blood for blood made in 1991. Playing with fire in 1989.
